Nice bro.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Hey kids,

Registration for the crown will be pushed back one week to accommodate the westside invite (moving to: SUNDAY, JULY 24th). We are preparing to host 48 teams this year. In addition to that (just to be transparent) we are going to open 12 spots for registration on the friday (july 22nd) to East Van teams (min: 2 players from east van) and 6 spots on the saturday (July 23rd) to any Overseas team who would like to register. This is to try and make sure that any east van player who wants to play gets a chance at their own tournament, and to encourage any team visiting from across the pond (ponds) for worlds to stick around and play with us!

If the 12 and 6 spots do not get filled on the friday and saturday, the remaining spaces will be open for any team for Sunday registration. If the early registration fills, or if teams that meet the criteria (from East Van or Overseas) miss early reg, they will be able to register for spots on the Sunday. We had about 30 teams at last year's tournament, so we feel there should be no problem in accommodating everyone that wants to play!

I hope that is clear to everybody. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me: stormfin@gmail.com

Cant wait for that crown! Synthese from Frankfurt will be there. Hope I dont forget to register that saturday. Is there any time reg opens, because I guess there might be more than 6 oversea teams willing to compete.

I also heard rumors about some turnament in Portland the weekend before the worlds, anybody has Information?

nice one

Zaragoza Bike Polo 2015
Berlin Bike Polo 2010 - 2015
London Bike Polo 2008 - 2010

That is excellent news! There will be a specific time when registration on the Saturday opens. Over here we have been using a system that allows you to fill in a registration form with all the relevant information ahead of time, then all you have to do is hover your mouse button over "submit" and watch a clock count up to the appropriate time. Right now I'm trying to figure out if that can all be done without someone monitoring it on my end (ie, while I am sleeping) that way Overseas registration can be opened at a time that might be more suitable to "you" (you meaning, teams from outside of north america). Also, if more than 6 teams want to register, they can do so on the Sunday, which will be a general registration for all remaining spots.

But I will make sure to keep everyone updated and to post reminders here.

no...go to olympia instead..we'll all be there

slayers are only slayers if the slay out of town...

Hey Y'all

The posting for the metal tournament is now up. Check it!

Take it Sleazy

Ok, bear with me. Because there are so many of you all (whee!) this is a little complicated.

East Van Bike Polo can billet 25 out-of-town players for the crown. This could mean on a couch, a bed, a floor, or in the backyard. In an effort to be fair, we are going to do a housing "registration" so first-come, first-served. Registration will open on Sunday, August 21st at 10:00 am PST. You can find the link here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGJKdG1fTTY...

For everybody else, we have worked out a deal with the nearby (and super cool) Waldorf Hotel (www.waldorfhotel.com). The Waldorf is holding 7 rooms for players attending the crown for reservation at a discounted rate. If you would like to book into the Waldorf, you can contact frontdesk@waldorfhotel.com or 604-253-7141, and use the promo code " East Van Crown". The promotion expires on September 1st.

There is also the Holiday Inn http://www.hiexpress.com/hotels/us/en/vancouver/yvrhs/hoteldetail which is the closest hotel to the courts.

And lastly, there is this great deal if you can get a bunch of friends together- houses for rent by night in the strathcona area (basically east van). Check it out here:

Thanks guys! Again, if you have any questions, e-mail me: stormfin@gmail.com

Oh, here is the link to the spreadsheet for housing:

who needs a team mate?

We've had a couple people jump the gun with housing registration, so I'd just like to be clear- It opens on SUNDAY, AUGUST 21st AT 10:00 AM PST.

If you register for housing any time prior to this, it will be voided. Also, there is an option in the registration form to be housed with your teammates- choosing "yes" does NOT also register your teammates for housing. It's every man/woman/child (or some combination thereof) for themselves

Good luck!

oh my bad

We have some questions.

We arrive to Van (from Seattle) at 13th, Sept.

We will move from Seattle to Vancouver by Greyhound.
Is this good choice or not?

Any Pick-up in Van before the tournament? (when do you come from, Euros?)
Is there a possibility that we can play in the world famous "Grandview Court"?

Please tell us your opinion.

Riki@Tokyo Hardcourt Bike Polo
tokyobikepolo.blogspot.com / www.flickr.com/rikitko / twitter: RikiTokyo

Hey Riki
I might join you guys on the bus.

I know there is a shuttle bus that does Seattle-Vancouver many times a day and to different locations (airport, downtown, etc)....

Is Arthur coming?

*Somebody please think of the children!!*

hi Carrillo.

i checked grayhound's web site.
they departure in Seattle downtown.

check my map:

and... yes Arthur is going to East Van too!
i'll tell him to your comment at tonight.

Riki@Tokyo Hardcourt Bike Polo
tokyobikepolo.blogspot.com / www.flickr.com/rikitko / twitter: RikiTokyo

the Bus is not a bad choice, but you may want to look into the train. faster and maybe cheaper??

There will most definitely be pick up leading up to the tournament, and it will be most likely at the World Famous Grandview Court

So stoked to meet some new international polo folk!

Take it Sleazy

Hey Riki-

Pick-up? Yes! At Grandview? Of course!

I don't know about the shuttle-bus, but the train and the greyhound are both reasonable options. They cost about the same, the bus actually tends to be faster (unless you get stuck at the border) but the train is easier for bikes (bus - your bike will have to go into a box, train- you just pass your bike off to a friendly Amtrack attendant). The train also offers some nice scenery along the way.

Hope that helps!

to tommy & frey

thanks to some useful info!
we are really looking forward to meeting & playing you! ;)

Riki@Tokyo Hardcourt Bike Polo
tokyobikepolo.blogspot.com / www.flickr.com/rikitko / twitter: RikiTokyo

Awesome info. Cheers guys for the welcome arms. I think at least 4 of the 6 aussie teams are making the trip.

and a few Europeans too....

Zaragoza Bike Polo 2015
Berlin Bike Polo 2010 - 2015
London Bike Polo 2008 - 2010

I may take the train back around the 13 as well Riki so I may join yah and we can talk about how we are going to try to win the crown?!!

I need a sugar momma so I can work less and play polo more!!

As a relatively frequent cascadian traveler I feel like I should pipe up and say that after looking through many options the best bet for Seattle to vancouver is

The "Cantrail" Bus runs five to six times a day and is 37-40 dollars one way and takes 3.5 hours. A bike is 5 dollars, but needs to be put in a box. It's a little more expensive than the train but it is quick and only stops twice, once at the border and once at a hotel in canada.

The train is 35-40 dollars and take 4.5 hours but for 5 dollars you simply hand them your bike. There arent as many spots for bikes though. It runs once in the morning and once at night. If there are many people going up at once I would suggest the train as it allows more people to socialize.

That is all.

The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

Yah I am down for the train on the 13 and having a polo party on the train!

I need a sugar momma so I can work less and play polo more!!

For those of you taking the train or bus, the station is at the same location in Vancouver and right at a SkyTrain station (our light rail system run by computers, not human drivers!).

The bus/train station is at the Main Street/Science World SkyTrain station. You can take your bike on the SkyTrain (except eastbound in afternoon rush hour, or westbound in morning rush hour) one stop east (towards King Edward/Surrey) to Commercial/Broadway station. SkyTrain fare is $2.50, nothing extra for your bike. There are ticket machines at the station that take cash, debit and credit cards.

The new court (not the tournament location) is a quick 12 block bike ride north (towards the mountains) on Commercial Drive at Charles.

We pretty much all live within a 10 minute bike ride of the court.

TransLink is our regional transit authority and has a fairly good website for trying to navigate the city on transit. Here is the link to TransLink's transit map:

Main and Terminal is where the bus/train station is, Commercial and Broadway is where the East Van SkyTrain station is.

I am not sure if anyone is flying into Vancouver, but the Canada Line SkyTrain station goes directly from the airport to downtown. Take the Canada Line to Waterfront Station train, get off at Cambie/Broadway and you can put your built bike on the 99-B Line express bus bike rack to Commercial/Broadway Station (or carry your bag on the bus). Then a quick 12 block bike ride to Commercial Drive and Charles. The fare for this ride is about $7.50 and is 2 zones.

You can also download and print a Vancouver Cycling Map here:

We'll also try to have hard copies on hand for when people arrive. The bike ride around the seawall to Stanley Park is pretty spectacular. We can recommend different sights to see as well as routes to get there.

If anyone has ground transportation questions, please feel free to contact me directly.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!!

Come to Bellingham on the way, 14 is our Shit Show

is there anybody still needing someone for the crown?
i will be in vancouver, but my teammates from monkey punch will already be back in germany....
if someone wants to play with me (good shot, eye for the game, heavy, not too slow) and give another europlayer the chance to be in this tournament, please contact me.
(perhaps you ask other europeans for references about me...)

hope to see you there

There appear to be a couple of TBDs on the registration sheet:

I'd suggest getting in touch with some of those players to complete their team.

i will try that, thanks

I can't access the housing doc. Sent off a request early. Me and the Machine are coming in of Friday. We need a place to crash. I'll bring my tent if needed. Someone let me know.

I just checked the link. It appears to work just fine:

Failing that, get in touch with Mama Frey directly. She's handling housing.

Can't wait to see you and MAAA-Chine!

Ruckus, I got you. To everyone that registered for housing, thanks for doing so, and also, thank you for your patience. It's going to take a bit of time to contact all the EVBP players that agreed to house people originally, and then get back to each of you (if I haven't already) but if you've registered, i'll find you a place to crash.

Also, at this point in time, housing is pretty much all full. I've just heard from the Waldorf, and there are still a few hotel rooms available to book at a discounted rate. The promotion expires THURSDAY SEPT 1ST so book soon! frontdesk@waldorfhotel.com or 604-253-7141

Alright kiddies, lissen up! We've had two teams scratch their registration! That means we have two (2) spots available for any teams that want to register. First two teams to e-mail me at stormfin@gmail.com get the spots!

Also, stay tuned for bracket and party details! See you all soon!

3-2-1- KILL!

Seeking a third for one of those final spots. Me and my teammate Jason are both fresh meat but he's got wicked bike skills and I have... a charming smile? Fun times guaranteed.

Looks like I need a team now. My previous one fell apart. I'll be driving up Friday morning probably.

STILL NEED REFS! Please contact me if you are going to be in town and are able to ref. Rik, Lewis, Trev, Justin, etc. I'm looking at you guys. We need a LOT more.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Hey. So I think I needs a team also. If you haven't seen: I'm a good goalie mostly, but set up plays well, am pretty fast, have a decent shot. Still rep Olympia. PM me

Check your email cause I'm swooping you up. Now we just need a 3rd.

Hey Kids,

Just a few days away now! I have the AM/PM brackets all sorted for saturday, but i've been holding off posting them because it seems like there has been a lot of last minute shuffling going on with/between teams. if there has been any change made to your team, I NEED TO KNOW. And I need to know like, yesterday.

Also, for all you single players out there looking for teams, here is the updated registration list. Hit one of these people with "TBDs" up! If you need contact info for them, contact me!

And yes! That's right! There are still two registration spots available! So if any of you single players want to make a team, do it! and e-mail me.

Im in vancouver, right now I´m gonna check out if there´s anyone at grandview. If you guys need a hand at courtbuilding tomorrow write me: zerge83(at gmail)

The Bisons;

joel from sf and i just had our third flake out. email me at jkupsch at gmail if you're looking for a last minute team!

um, are there 2 joel's in San francisco?

oops, thought this was the metal thread.

By Bob from East Van. Footage from last year's Crown...

The East Van Crown from brawcast on Vimeo.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Allllright Kids! Here are the brackets for saturday! AM bracket starts at 9:30 am SHARP. No fooling. East van will be there and ready to run the tournament on time, so we need you to be there on time as well. If you are late, you'll forfeit the game. If both teams are late, we'll record a 0-0 tie and move right on. Same thing goes for the PM bracket which starts at 2:30. Right now, by my count, we have 46 teams registered. I've put 24 teams in the am and 22 in the PM.

Have a look. There have been a lot of changes which I have done my best to stay on top of. If anything looks wrong please let me know.

Aand the format will be swiss rounds on saturday, hoping for 5 rounds for everybody, and double elim on sunday.

Hey poloverse, do you have some small size "polo" hoodie?
If you have that, I wanna buy it. Please bring it to EastVan.

Not quite sure if me and machine need a third. Rumor has it that our third has jumped ship. Were coming in tonight. Free t shirt size large. Let us know at the party tonight

Good brakes only slow you down.

hey guys
is there a way to follow the tourney live, like twitter, chalonge or something ?
Thanks guys and GOOOO DADDY's !!!!

It's polo nirvana. The court may be a little bumpy, so being able to aim shots in three dimensions is a good skill. Everyone seems to be having a fantastical time beyond all comprehension. There's rumor of a party tonight with knife fights and fight fights and beer down low and mayhem everywhere else.. I saw lefty Joe score a mother fucking rocket goal, actually I saw that a few times wholly shit that dude can fire. Rory MCs. I snooked away to check out Grandview and lo and behold found a fine crew of poloistas from around the world to throw in with.

Lucky us.

Tomorrow there's more. Not sure who's going to win but there are some really great teams out there. I think I made it to tomorrow, but if not there's word of a wildcard Sunday morning at Grandview. That's it from me.

we're coming for you east van. .

Lost my passport and in Seattle. Looking to make the best of the situation. Also looking for polo, a place to crash, and some entertainment. Up for anything. Four one five713 ten 32.

Hope everyone has a great crown

we love you Ben but seriously, enough with the paint huffing already.

If you want to follow the double elimination. :-)

Who won? What was the final score?

Matt Messenger
since 1998

5-4 Edisons. Guardians almost came back from 4-1 but i think Mo put in the GWG.

...after Guardians won the first finals game.

And these were untamed games to 5. East Van did a great job keeping games moving and sticking to time limits all the way to the finals. Well they did a great job on lots and lots of things.

1st - Eddy's Sons (Edison) - Eddy and the two guys from Synthese
2nd - Guardians
3rd - Crazy Canucks
4th - Funky Town - Leon, Andre, Warrior Mike
5th/6th - Call Me Daddy (slightly different team from Worlds)
5th/6th - The Four Horsemen - Pete (me), TimTim, and Tom from Portland
7th/8th - Portland United
7/th/8th - Beauty and the Boners - Drew Gooch, Rowdy, Cherri

Thanks e van for making my first visit a memorable one!

hey everyone,
I filmed a bunch of the finals from the top of the fence on the ladder and I really want to share these with you all ASAP but I'll need your help. I'm no good at video editing or joining separate clips together. I'm also travelling light so I'll be borrowing a computer tonight. if you can help out let me know, i'll try transfer the files out of the camera with Mega upload or something.

thanks everyone from e.van, martin, rory, lisa, shannon, robbie, ken, tom, brooke, cole, and the list goes on. another beautiful year, rain and shine. as difficult as it was to play on the c and d courts, it was also difficult to watch the ending to the finals. there's always next year, I'll be in seattle til then. alex, I still want that canucks shirt, and if there are any e.van crown shirts still available, I'd still like to buy one or two for some seattle people who attended last year, but couldn't make it this year (Scooter, etc).

side note, there were so many young kids at this year's crown. dylan, koyo, sterling, david, etc, the list goes on. if these kids are the future of polo, I'm gonna have to find one of them to be on my team ;)
tell them to keep up the good work. they can only get better and better.

Thanks Guys !!
Was amasing week end.
i miss Commercial dr..
