Speaking of which, I think if anyone out there dropped out and picked up new teammates it'd be ever so nice if you could maybe tell someone so the spreadsheet gets updated. Cause I'm a curios participant!
Brought this up way back, but just to be clear, team Ole Dirty Memphis' third player is not chris gt from philly. It's Andy Hill from Memphis and always has been. Dunno when that got screwed up.
-Brett
I changed this a while back. when I look at the registration from the restricted view it shows Adam and not Chris on Old Dirty Mempis. I don't know why it's not updating the public view or how to fix that problem but I'll work on it.
team #14-back and to the left should actually be named bunglesaurus
Less social club, more polo
Yeah. We need more transparency. Especially when it comes to locking down spare slots...making plans..you get the jist?
Portland United
www.eighthinch.com
The problem that was hiding the changes to Old Dirty Memphis is fixed. The names associated with each of these teams is now as current as I know. I'll update as I receive new information or corrections. Any specific questions?
Here's the registration spreadsheet:

So no Jared or Jason-F-off.
Were those claims of competing in this supposed to like incite people or did plans fall through?
I've heard talk of that too, but no confirmations.
I'm trying to play! I fucking love bike polo! I didn't go to DPI 3 because I knew I was playing in my own regional and now I'm getting the shaft over an oversight/loophole. I have a job in Austin, have a house in Austin (since January 1st), my girlfriend transferred to the news station in Austin from a job she'd been at for years (obviously not just vacationing), etc...so it's confusing and kinda asinine that the governing body of a state considers me a resident but not the governing body of bike polo...hopefully someone will contact me so I can officially straighten this out...not just for me but for anyone that moves under the new regional system.
Have you talked to Rob? I was reading about this whole thing on the south eastern thread and wondering if Rob had a say in the decision to keep you out... you should be allowed at least but maybe Jared was holding you back (he's got more baggage than samsonite).
As far as I understand it, these decisions are being made by the tournament organizers as well as Malakai, George and Rob because they are the South Central Reps.
I'd suggest talking to them Jason. Or maybe they will drop you a line.
besides the fact jared has more baggage than a moving bus with the kardashian and osbourne family luggage rolled in one. I mean seriously, I don't have much of an opinion on the guy, but everyone from the cascadia to east side seems to have one...
You try too hard maxxx. For reall. Step your heckling up. I ain't even mad. Sven has it on lock.

Sorry, I try to be nice to people who know american sign language, it's a good excuse for you to not use english. and then I'd still be able to talk to you w/o having to say anything...which is how I assume most people feel about talking to you...
is that enough?
see you in LR...don't worry, I'll use sign language to tell you whether or not someone is going to pass or shoot.
wait max you didn't hear, he tried to get into an out of region tournament and he couldn't get in. You won't get to heckle him!

Hold up a sec. Jason, whose spots were you and Jared trying to take? Did one of the Lawrence teams fall through, and contact you? To me it just seemed like one second everything was filled and the next you were like, ME JARED LAWRENCE DUDE. I think an explanation for how exactly you found a spot when everything was full would clear this up no problem. You live in South Central, so you're in. Can you please name the lawrence player you were intending to play with and tell us how the team came about?

Any thoughts on the number of teams that make it to Sunday? It looks like, because of time constraints with the number of games needed to get through double elimination and having two courts, we will have to reduce the number of teams that can make it to the double elimination portion of the tournament. We're thinking in the 24-28 team range for teams that make it to Sunday.
24 would be the top two thirds. it seems like its usually half at most tournaments... why not 18?
I agree that it's better do just do half. That way you aren't rushed and you ensure there will be enough light for the final game.
You don't want to play the last game under the worst conditions. Double elim takes quite a while.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
fixcraft.net
tempe lads totally set it up for a phenomenal tournie with 33 teams playing double elimination on the sundaay. It really was one hell of a tournie with 3 courts
"So this is how it ends"MACHINE
you're right, manchine, it was one hell of a tourney; nonetheless it started too early and the games were too short. 50% is trill.
not only do they say they feel it but they say it hurts
fixcraft.net
Trill: An adjective used in hip-hop culture to describe someone who is considered to be well respected, coming from a combination of the words "true" and "real".
right....right....praise jah.....again and again.........he's the trillest
Games were hardly too early. They were totally scheduled for the right times so ya didn't even have to top up yer buzz from yer 2 hours sleep the night b4 and i don't know about you but 10 minutes a game is 10 minutes between snakebites which if the games where longer the flow would be interupted by refueling pit stops . Seriously though i would hate to be knocked out the first day and have to sit out the Sunday.Lets start games 1 hour after sunrise.

Seriously though i would hate to be knocked out the first day and have to sit out the Sunday.Lets start games 1 hour after sunrise.
Yah dude it sucks. A lot of the tournaments I was in the first two years I placed around the middle. Every time. Every tournament I went to. A lot of those times I didn't make the Sunday cut.
But you know what doesn't suck? Working your ass off to be better than at least 50% of the teams that showed up to play. Thats a high you can't even get from a snakebite.
hey, it worked out fine at the boondoggle... and by fine i mean drunk
talk shit and burn bridges
Let's not start being elitist at this point, do the math and include the highest number possible.
Elitist? The only way it's elitist is if you consider the fact that 8-12 teams (24-36 players) will have nothing to do on a sunday. I think cutting the field in half is acceptable if A) the tournament finishes on time... I doubt anyone wants to do a monday morning 6:00AM finals game.... and if B) the people getting cut out are given something fun to do. that was my highlight of my Midwest 7 in CoMo was the "Fun bracket", first tournament for me ever, I played on a fixie at the time, played like a first timer, etc, but at least I had something to do on sunday that helped me enjoy the weekend.
A mini-knife fight tournament would be effective, provided first place actually won a sweet ass knife.. ;) second place gets steak knives, third place is you're fired.
i just found out i have this weekend off. who needs a mercenary?
Chris and I have room in our car. Someone pick this slayer up!!
Midwest is best!!
you can have my spot, on the condition that you get my team qualified and I get your qualifying spot come na's & world's.
Don't pre-tournament substitutions have to fall within these criteria?
2011 NAH Rules
1. Teams - Teams will consist of three players. Substitutions will be allowed only in response to player injury or unforeseen absence (cancelled flight, etc.). Proceed as follows:
* If the player injury occurs more than two weeks prior to the tournament:
o the substituted player must be chosen and declared before the first day of tournament play.
o this team is then set for the duration of the tournament.
I believe 24 team double elimination sounds good. If I'm not mistaken this was also the suggestion from NAH on regional qualifier tournaments as well. Saying that, I think that if Little Rock Bike Polo was inclined to throw a "just for fun" or knife fights style tournament for the teams that did not make it in on Sunday would be rad!

anybody coming to this that has access to the black gas pipe with red stripe that was sold at north americans in madison? i would really like to get some of that or something similar, can't get any gas pipe in seattle. let me know, willing to pay whatever.... i'm looking for around 3 - 4 feet.
We are going to bring MDPE mallets and hopefully some of the Black HDPE.
No guarantee that its the same stuff as in Madison.
He's probably just looking for the 1/8" wall stuff, the "Madison red".

No I think he's looking for gas company black HDPE with a red stripe on it.
We have black HDPE with a yellow stripe.

Minneapolis' team is coming down Thursday night and will be hoping to play pickup all day long on Friday.
I know people were talking about this in the other thread. Will the courts be open to use on Friday? Are there any conflicts?
Secondly, does anyone have a place for three poloists to crash Thursday night until we move into our luxurious budget hotel? I asked Nateness to ask around for us but I figured I'd throw it out to the public too.
Sven
You guys can't play pick up on Friday because Columbia will not be there, therefore you'll just be miserable the whole time. No one will tell any good jokes or have any fun and you'll be left doing nothing but counting down the hours until we get there.

This question is directed to the organizers...
What are my chances of playing in this?
I have arranged travel and time off work but now find myself without team.
If I stand by the registration table waiting for whoever is there to get their info, then once we have seen who actually shows up. What sort of system are you going to use?
I feel like this may be the first time this is going to happen and you need to have something in place to deal with it...

RE: refs
We're still going to need additional refs for both days during the tournament. Being a young club, we can run a stop-watch and a score board but we'll need some experienced help especially for the later matches.
So please, come to the referee meeting at 0900 each morning so we can touch base. On Saturday (Swiss Rounds) we'll be looking to have players from the Afternoon group ref the Morning group and vice-versa. On Sunday I guess we'll let the teams that didn't make it into the Top 24 give those that did a hard time! j/k
Bryan
I can guarantee you enough refs to keep it running smoothly. I will be at the ref meetings for sure, and I will drag as many competent persons with me as possible. All the right calls will be made, and something tells me that South Central will be one of the easiest qualifiers to ref.

We will be bringing some ski poles, mallet heads and mallet hardware to sell. Hoping to make at least one tank of gas worth of cash.
The mallet heads we are bringing will be yellow MDPE gas pipe. I'm holding a 5" mallet right now that I drilled out. It weighs roughly 75 grams.
The pipe is 2 3/8" OD gas pipe with 1/4" wall thickness.
We will be pre-drilling speed holes in these and they will come in 4" and 5" sizes give or take 1/4".
Once I buy some hardware and see how many we are bringing I will be able to set a price. Cheap is the idea.

Hey guys Manuel and I won't be able to make it. That means Jack attack will need to slayers for the tournament. So if there's someone out there looking for a team this is your chance.
Manuel bailed on me, we were going to make the trip toghether and share the expenses, but he's nowhere to be found surfing somewhere in the pacific coast. Right now the fligh fares are out of this world expensive so I'm screwed.
Total bummer.
looks like both jasons, the slayla, and maybe the joe lefty can all find a team. I heard saddlebags (austin) also lost a 3rd!
sorry to hear it raul.
Yeah it sucks, I'm waiting for manuel to show up so I can punch him in the face. Help Jack out! He needs a team!
slayson has been needing a team for the longest time, so does jason f-off, as well as slayla. Jack is in a good place with the free agents available. we may have to consider trades.
.edit. also jared the VEGON may show up.
.edit 2. Sven and I have considered a bet as to whether jared and jason f-off form a team on the spot because jared seems desperate enough to circumvent any authority.
.edit 3. Jared also is clearly gonna be first in the south east, where he is the jefferson davis of the region.
Hey guys-
Today is extremely busy (read: horrible and painful) day at work for me. I will look into subs late this evening or maybe even some time tomorrow. I would encourage players that are really interested in joining my team to message me, to make my life a little easier.
Jack Crowe
"If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough."
Edit:
Jack, you registered as an out of region player (WHY DO THIS? YOU PLAY IN LAWRENCE). You lost both of your in region teammates.
What does that mean?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
fixcraft.net
I don't think it means anything now because it's within 10 days from the tournament.
• Ten days before the tournament begins, the 75%/25% regional restriction will be removed; opening any remaining spots to all teams, regardless of their regional makeup.
So, if I am understanding the rules correctly, Jack will just need to make his pick before the first day of the tournament.
Okay, I'd agree with that. Good job Nathan!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
fixcraft.net
I'm going to have to disagree here. I think that means that any remaining TEAM spots will be open to all teams, regardless of region. It should be the case that any team that registers as in/out of region be required to remain as such. If that were not the case, there could be plenty of mayhem. You could have people intentionally reg as in-region with 2 very flimsy maybes as other in-region teammates then choose to change to 2 out of region ringers within 10 days of the tournament. The whole point of having the initial in/out of region ratio is to avoid having tournaments where too many out of region people qualify for NAs.
I'm not saying that Jack intentionally registered as in-region knowing that he could pick out of region players as his teammates. I know him and he wouldn't do that. But someone could and it could screw up the distribution intended. We don't want people saying "oh yeah my other two teammates ditched? who wants to buy their spots?" That would be lame.
Pro-friendly bike polo!
I don't know... you could say that it's plain to see the evil inside of me is on the rise.
Joking aside, Nate and I are working out the details of using magnetic resonance force microscopy as a qubit readout device, and as soon as I hear back about the NAH decision I will build a team for south central and change the world as we know it. Also, thanks Pete for vouching on my honor.
Jack Crowe
"If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough."
Pete, not to disagree with your broader point about in-region versus out-of-region composition of the tournament, but I just want to share my assessment of the situation since we're so close to the tournament and all. The NAH rules say teams can make substitutions for "injury" or "unforeseen absence" within two weeks prior to the tournament. Also, the NA Tour rules say the in-region and out-of region quotas are withdrawn 10 days prior to the tournament. I interpret Raul's and Manu's situations as fitting into the "unforeseen absence" requirement for Jack to pick up two new players of his choosing, and being within the final ten days before the tournament they can be from inside or outside-of-region.
I agree that as the rules stand, he can get whoever he wants. But I think the rules should be changed because unforeseen absences could be planned by shady people in the future. Changing the rules to require any team making subs to stay as in/out of region would be for the best. It's not unreasonable and would prevent gaming of the system.
Pro-friendly bike polo!
I'll let ya'll keep wondering if I am coming or not. Let's just say if I was going to show up, I would set all your houses on fire. Fuck bike polo.

Wasn't there a clause stating that the substitute players may not b e of a higher caliber than the one they are replacing. Funny assed rule coz that can be just a matter of opinion ...What if you are considered the worst player in the WORLD .You,d have to get someone who'd never played b4 to sub for ya
"So this is how it ends"MACHINE
Right on, it's a subjective rule, for sure. But, the part you are referring to would only come into play after the first day of the tournament, and most likely, only in the case of an injury.
Another little rule reminder to everybody out there, don't forget your matching colors this weekend:
Uniforms
2.8 - Teams are required to wear matching colors.
2.9 - Teams are required to bring at least two different colored jerseys
in the event that both teams are wearing a similar color. Team with best
record will be required to change. In case of like records, a coin will
be tossed.
our team's jersey is white with green sleeves. would this mean that we would have to change if our opponents wear white or green? if not, do we have to change at all since they're 2 toned?

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE
Weather changes a lot in these here parts. We will just have to play it by ear. If we have lightning nearby, there's some buildings we can take shelter in. But, if we do have a heavy storm, it probably won't last very long.

Follow along this weekend...
So I'll be at the tournament without a team so if you want a regional third... I'm your guy.
Here's an email I just sent to all the team captains:
SCBPC,
Two days till SCBPC! I just want to get out a last minute rules reminder. If you haven't been over to the "Rules" link at http://www.nahardcourt.com/2011-nah-rules/ now would be a good time to peruse that bit of literature and make sure your teammates are hip to the code. In the meantime, here's some of the important parts that, with your gracious compliance, will help us make the tournament run more smoothly:
Rules
2. Equipment
All equipment must be inspected and deemed safe before a player is allowed to step on the court. (See General Rules of play, section 5). All equipment must be free of jagged edges and dangerous protrusions. All mechanisms must be adjusted correctly and be in safe working order.
Bike
2.1 – Any common type of bike is allowed. (BMX, road, track, mountain). Trikes, recumbents and tandems are not allowed.
2.2 – You may not add anything to the bike to help block shots (e.g., a bar under your BB, netting in the front triangle) with the exception of wheel covers.
2.3 – Handlebars must be capped. Bullhorn handlebars are not allowed.
Mallet
2.5 – The end of the mallet handle must be capped / plugged.
2.6 – Mallets must not have any sharp, jagged or otherwise dangerous edges or protrusions
Helmets
2.7 – Helmets are mandatory.
Uniforms
2.8 – Teams are required to wear matching colors.
2.9 – Teams are required to bring at least two different colored jerseys in the event that both teams are wearing a similar color. Team with best record will be required to change. In case of like records, a coin will be tossed.
Thanks polo people. We can already feel the excitement here in Little Rock! As always, if you have any questions, please email us at lrbpolo@gmail.com.
3, 2, 1, POLO!
Nathan
Yet another email just sent to team captains:
Hey, SCBPC folks,
Friday we will be at the courts off and on all day. From 5 p.m. till 10 p.m. we will be checking in teams that have made it to town. If you can't make check-in on Friday night we need you to check in Saturday morning between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. At check-in we will need all team members present. We need folks to sign our insurance waiver and we need to take a look at people's gear. Just look for a table by the courts that has people and paper at it. Seriously though, if you can find our courts it shouldn't be hard to find the check-in table, we will have it located in a well-traveled area beside the courts.
So, here's the schedule thus far:
Friday: All day pick-up, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. check-in, later the party will move to Midtown Billiards on Main Street
Saturday: Check-in 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., referee meeting at 9 a.m., All-Teams-Meeting at 9:30, SCBPC morning session begins at 10 a.m., Afternoon session begins at about 2 p.m., After party at Vino's begins at about 8 p.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. referee meetnig, 9:30 All-Teams-Meeting, 10 a.m. 24 team double elimination championship bracket begins. After tournament awards ceremony and hang-out spot TBA.
Also, there have been several questions about the weather. It looks like we will have some precipitation and probably some lightning at some point on Saturday. If we do get a storm, there is a museum building about 100 yards from our courts that we can take shelter in until it passes. We will be watching the sky Saturday for lightning and will pause the tournament if it's too close. The nice side of Arkansas's unpredictable weather is that if we do get a storm it will most likely pass quickly.
Also, whomever you are housing with for the weekend should know where and when to be, or, at least, who to call.
Thanks!
Nathan

Damn I wish we had gotten into this. I would love to be playing polo with everyone tonight.
Drove 13 hours. Went to some crazy ass private club where 30 people were chucking bottles across the room into a trash can. Last person to miss bought a round for everyone.
Went and played polo at midnight. Went back to the private club that stayed open until 5am. We got really drunk with Machine and Cody. Woke up blasted. Puked out of a moving car on the way to Waffle house this morning. Played pickup for 5 hours today. Going back for more.
This tournament hasn't even started yet and I'm having the time of my life.
Hurry up and start the tournament already! I'm awake and bored and need something to check obsessively on the internet til everyone else wakes up for polo.
It's coming along so far. Cody, Cherri, and Paul brought the Seattle weather with them though-cold and rainy.
Midwest is best!!

Man that sucks it looks like Gulf South Boyz has a good chance for the NA's to bad Frazer said if he qualifies at the SC he will not accept the entrance into the NA's because it is not fair to the players in that region and he would not want to take that away from the SC people? Well lets see what happens and if he actually sticks to his gunz!!

Thank you Little Rock, for putting on one helluva tourney. Dan, thanks for the crash spot. Performance Enhancing Hugs, great game we had. BWS, you guys are my heroes. Austin, you're club is my favorite and it was great to play Los Cuatreros twice, despite losing. So many great Ladies of Polo, you gals are an inspiration. Congrats Tina, MVP honors. Cody/Dusty, wish we coulda met in the brackets. Great to see old pals & make new ones. Machine, you are one of a kind, me boy! Now when I read your posts, I do so with your voice in my head. "Pop a rrruber band on it!" Scooter, Maxx, & Cherri, it was great to play all that pick up with you and then edge you 1-0 on Saturday. Great game. Thanks again Little Rock, your tourney was on point. Dave, stay away from brake levers, they're dangerous as you now know.
Once again, I traveled to a new city and only saw the polo courts, the crash spot, and a few bars. I love polo and enlarging my polo family is what its all aboot.
See y'all next time!
Thanks again Little Rock, your tourney was on point. Dave, stay away from brake levers, they're dangerous as you now know.
Heh-Yep! Necessity is the muther of invention..that experience has got me working on a brake design that doesn't employ skewer-like devices. Dude, it was great to meet you guys & great games! Cant wait to see the footage!!
What is Mark(come and take it) from Austin's username on this board?
Hey Svenden-- this is mark here. I always just lurk on this site, but it looks like its time to get me a username. Whats up?
Thanks so much to little rock and all involved. It was an amazingly fun tourney. Cheers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
fixcraft.net
I can't even believe you'd compare the two
suck it Phaneuf!
the video of you and charlie tells us dick move but shows us nothing, i am still curious what exactly happened to elicit that response from you. not to keep bringing it up...
in my opinion he rode his front wheel into my bike without any attempt to play the ball or engage in a shoulder to shoulder check. his front wheel ended up between my downtube and front wheel which, to me, is a perfect illustration of a t bone. my shit got a little fucked up and i had a temper tantrum. it's pretty funny to me how some people (doug, st louis) have taken it as a sign of the degradation of some kind of golden era of bike polo when it was so much fun to smash our bikes into each other.
suck it Phaneuf!
in my opinion, i came in fast to attempt to take your line to the ball and/or shoulder check you. as you followed the curve of the boards your bike turned and mine did not resulting in my wheel on your downtube... the play did not happen the way i intended it to, but was not a reason for a temper tantrum.
the only difference i can see between the bike-on bike between you and miguel and the bike on bike between you and me is one was against the boards, resulting in a bent wheel.
ben and doug responded the way they did because when a player of your caliber throws a temper tantrum over trivial shit, it legitimizes more of the same behavior, which could lead to more and more complicated rules...
