this is my current polo bike, built up in Jan. 2009 - 2 mos. old at the time of this photo. Upgraded from my previous bike (see themanmachine's "Crushinator", below), and used most of the same components from that bike. The frame, post and headset were acquired as a work-trade for some identity work that I did for a bike shop. DIY pologuard made from an old bent chainring. The rear wheel is a Velocity Cliffhanger laced to a Formula track hub, with a replacement 175mm axle. White Industries freewheel. The big apples roll over skulls and small animals.

what do you like about this ride? kenny and i are thinking of investing in a pair of 1X1's.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

I have wanted one since before I even started playing polo, but then I got to thinking about how great one of these would be for polo. The frame is overbuilt as all hell, and fairly inexpensive. The geometry is more old-school mtn. bike, and less like the modern designs with the super-sloping, aggressive look. Rear-facing horz. dropouts, so wheel changes and adjustments are easy. Another really cool thing about the 1x1 is that you can run pretty much any wheel size you want, depending on what your brake setup is, and it has mounts for everything (disc, canti, v's, sidepulls). It's probably best setup for 26"s, but you could run 700s or even 29"ers with the right brakes.

The rear is wide; 135mm. And the chainstays flare out pretty wide too, so you have to make sure your rear wheel hub is the right width (or at least your axle - 175mm wide), and it works best with cranks that are compact, like most modern mtn or singlespeed cranksets. I'm running a 122mm BB on mine with cheapo Bulletproof BMX cranks.

tiiiight!! I wouldnt be surprised to see more and more of these frames on the court as they become more common

why did you opt for rim brakes over disc?

I would consider a disc setup if I could figure out a good way to protect all that extra stuff down there from mallets and whatnot... maybe someday.
