Just got back from this year’s Southeastern Bike Polo Championship, the best teams in the south! Our two teams did pretty swell. Pagan Ritual (Charles, Andy and Bradley) ended up tied for 13th and Broken Bones (Graham, Brett and Adam) finished in 6th! Broken Bones had to play Ribbit (Sergio, Tiffany and Jake) for the 5th place tie-breaker and lost 4-3.
Imagine this: it’s been a productive WordPress weekend. You’ve been busy puttering away on the new website you put together for your cat-lovers’ club and you’re pleased with the progress so far.
You found an adorable kitty-friendly theme, snagged a memorable site address, added some snazzy widgets in all the right places, and you’re finally ready to introduce your baby to the world.
But, wait! Just before making the site public, you notice that the header isn’t displaying your site title and tagline along with the header graphic.
I’m going to call it. The violent days of bike polo are behind us, and we’ve now entered the technical/skills phase. Let it be written.
Honestly though – I don’t think I’m going out on limb when I make that observation. Even if you’re just looking at it from a how-many-mallets-have-I-destroyed-in-a-tourney ratio, it’s clear that we’re doing a lot less slashing, crashing, and…uh…splash…ing?
Chances are that if you’re running a public facing blog, you’re probably happiest when someone actually reads it. Preferably lots of someones. Your blog’s stats can give you some great ways to get to know a little bit more about your readers, and what it is about your work that most attracts them.
The South East Qualifier is over and the results can be found over on LOBP. While we couldn’t find any pictures of the winning team on the internet to share, it is interesting to note that this tournament had a full 32 teams! Way to go Athens and the South East Region.
Last Sunday – when we had special guest Kruse and hot dogs and children running around and Gene wearing spandex and flying kites and whatever, we played some pretty intense games. Ok – I played some pretty physically demanding games for myself. Half of it was energy from having someone who challenged our typical happy-fun-time nature (though Kruse wasn’t being a jerk by any means, he’s just a very good player), and half of it was my own ego not wanting to look like a goon.

Father’s Day (a day when I normally cuddle into all the pillows I can find and scream “I have no fatherrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!”) turned out better than expected when Lancaster United decided to break out the wieners and have a good ol’ polo BBQ. Add to that the enjoyment of finally meeting the notorious Nick Kruse (up from Missouri and relocating to Philadelphia) and playing a few games with him, and you’ve got a pretty spectacular day of polo.
