We are proud to present the first 'end of europe bike polo camp' 2015 in Baroa de sao joao, Western Algarve which is where Algarve bike polo was born in 2013. It is a very lively small village set in the beautiful western Algarve with a selection of colourful bars and cafes. The idea for the weekend is to play out the Portuguese National tournament on the friday for Portugal’s entry to Zaragoza and then playing a bench tournament Saturday/ Sunday (format TBC). We are a very small polo scene down here comprising of around 4 players at most and the objective other than having an amazing weekend of Polo in the sun, is to raise awareness to attract some new players to the sport down here.

Camping Y/N

Registration fee: FREE, t-shirts will be available to support tournament costs

As we are such a small community its hard to offer the usual housing plans but its not called a camp for nothing! We have free camping at one of our players land about 1.5km from the court, there is space for a good amount of tents but please reserve your space early. There is only a dry compost loo and cold water available but warm showers are available at the court.

Local accommodation:

Monte Rosa offers guest rooms and small wooden cabins located 2km from the court.

Casa Florestal and Cottage Florestal, 2 properties offering accommodation for up to 4 persons, between 25e and 38e per night

Local English guy has 2 appartments available in Baroa Sao Miguel, 2 beds etc (next village) call phil 916954815, apparently its really nice and can sleep up to 5 in each

Several places to eat in the village and 2 mini mercados for your other needs. There will be a BBQ at the court side and have arrangements for group food at local venues both friday/saturday night.

Flights to Faro Airport, suggest a taxi to train station (roughly 8euro) or dodgy bike ride on the dual carriageway about 5km www.skyscanner.com

Train to Lagos (roughly 6euro) if travelling from the north by train you will come in to Tunes and can change there to Lagos www.cp.pt

I've ordered a polo bus to have pick ups available from Lagos Train station once we have everyone’s schedules, might have to ask for small contribution to this service ;)

by car you will end up on the A22 motorway at some point coming from either north or east, follow it all the way to the end, take the first right at the roundabout, follow the road (N120) through Bensafrim for about 1 km, take the signposted left turn towards barao de sao joao, roughly 4 km.

By boat you can moor in Lagos marina which is located in front of the train station and use the Polo bus from there.

Yeah, can't wait, it'll be sweet.

Lisboa bike polo will be there ;)

Woot, see you there!

looking forward to it myself , just a few things to sort out first.....

more accommodation in the village can be found on booking.com, search for Casa de Joao. tried to copy link but it was massive.

for the camp games we are thinking of spitting the everyone into 3 categories of capability and picking names from hats, playing teams of 3 for rounds on saturday and elimination sunday before riding to the beach for a beer? any thoughts before we go for this

More info on Casa do Joao, €20 per night singles and €15 for doubles, mention polo when booking.

The village of Baroa de Sao Joao is getting very excited about hosting the 2015 Bike Polo National championships and all getting ready to come out and support their fellow countrymen in this unknown bike sport.

I really need to get all subscriptions in by the 24th April at the latest, indicating the following;

Camping Y/N
Food requirement - veggie/meat/fish for friday night
- meat/veggie for saturday night

food will be at 10 euro per head each night for a full 3 course meal (excluding drinks) and I guarantee you eat like a king/Queen. I really need everyone to confirm the food options soon as these venues are limited seating and we don't want to mess them around too much, thanks.

The council have started work on completely renovating the court and facilities in anticipation of this event and will even be setting up a spectator seating area.

For non-campers please contact jorge at Casa do Joao (above post), this is the cheapest alternative to camping we have on offer here.

9 days to go........... looking forward to seeing you all!!

Courts tip top, campings ready for tents and the sun is shining...... Look forward to seeing you all!! :)

The End is Near. Tees are printed and look goooood:
