If anyone is looking for a teammate I hear Joey is looking to qualify and looking for a team

When is registration?

NAH are running it, we are waiting for the last 2 qualifiers to confirm, and then plan to open it in March. You'll have plenty of notice

¿are the defending champions guaranteed a spot?

I like that idea, let me get back to you.

Ok, so that's approved.

The team that won the qualifier the previous year will automatically get a spot the next year, if all the following apply:
1) They must register as at least 2/3 players
2) They must register within the first 2 weeks (before the registration opens to out of region teams) to be guaranteed a spot.

Regional affiliation doesn't matter (so for example Beavers would get a spot in Great Lakes qualifier if they choose to).
After those 2 weeks, they will enter the first-come-first-served list like anyone else (otherwise we'd have to keep a spot open until the end of registration, just in case)
Usual other rules apply, such as not being able to play in any other qualifier.

Thanks for taking quick action on this John.

Clarification question: ¿Is the last sentence correct, or did you mean to say "...not being able to attempt to qualify in any other qualifier"? On http://www.nahardcourt.com/proposed-regional-structure-changes-2014/ we read "A team/player may only attempt to qualify in one region".

Ok, I can see the potential misunderstanding there.

A player may only play in one qualifier.

Yes I misunderstood. Glad I asked this. We were in the middle of booking travel to multiple qualifiers.

There might be other people who misunderstand how many qualifiers they are allowed to play in, in contrast to how many they are allowed to attempt to qualify in.

Well I'd suggest not to book anything, until the registration process is announced, and you are registered, there is no guarantee you'll even get into Mexico (if 24 in-region teams fill it up)

¿I thought u were going to mejico?

well, based on John's clarification above, it looks like we will only be going to Mexico, at least to play.

Sick. I'm trying to save for worlds, but Guadalajara sounds sweeeeet. The champs will be missed of course.

any word on registration dates?

NAH are doing the registration centrally, will be announced in the the next few days hopefully....

Looking for a team to go all the way to Worlds.

Combination of choice: Smash + Bang

How does qualifying work?

change of plans.

So... what are the prizes?

All prizes will be the part for your polo bike you've been lusting after for months and months (paul levers mostly) and then immediately stripped away from you, and given to random passers-by.
The organizers will then take whatever cash you have and pocket it for personal use.

Looking for a team....

Hi, I want to come watch you all destroy each other.

Any C players looking to team up and have fun?

We've got a newer player in Pittsburgh that's looking for a team. Hit up "Ron Hayes" from Pittsburgh on the bookface

Tell "Ron Hayes" to make an "LOBP account" and do his own legwork!

I don't think losing is very fun but I might be down to do it anyway, if only for the one extra point rva gets towards the club bench

I'd be happy to team up James. +1 on the club bench points, and this will be great experience.

This is a great attitude to bring to the event!

Combination of choice: Smash + Bang

Is anyone out there still looking for a third player for their bike polo team? Asking for a friend. Seriously.

I might be interested.

Registration Opens Tomorrow!
Lets fill it up!

aka "FatStacks"

1 set of NAH regulation goals, made new for the tourney will be for sale on Sunday Night following finals.
$160 for the set.
1 set spoken for (DC)

These are heavy duty, steel pipe, made to last.

lancasterpolo.com
agile for my size.

We talked about this a couple years back around NAH's inception, but now is as good a time as any to bring it up again.

Does it make sense for there to be a "travelling" court/goals (or two) made to NAH specifications, in a trailer owned by NAH, for shared use between qualifier hosts?

Potential problems and things to think about:

  • NAH is an organization. Who would actually be charged with maintaining/storing the trailer? Who is in charge of getting the trailer to the qualifier? Does it make more sense to have this on a regional level?
  • Where does the money for trailer (and trailer-associated costs) come from? Do we lower the percentage that goes to qualifier organizers and increase the NAH fees? Presumably having a travelling set of boards would lower the "build cost" for qualifier organizers so maybe this wouldn't be an issue.
  • Could non-NAH tournaments rent the travelling boards?
  • Could this be a tangible/worthwhile benefit of yearly NAH member dues?

Sprinks and I were working on a 'Polo Ready Kit' earlier in the year.
It was basically everything that you needed to host except courts... laptop, wifi hotspot, monitors, scoreboard, whistles, etc..
the problem is, we'd either need one per region, or we'd need the qualifiers to be spaced enough to ship it around.

as for goals, its an awesome idea. I think they should def do it for North Americans, but again, with scheduling, you'd almost need two or three sets of goals per region. Thats at least 40 goals.... ours cost us a little more than 150 per set...
looking at six grand before travel expenses, storage, and everything else involved.

so unlikely.

BUT,
if more people were thinking 'solution' instead of thinking 'the NAH sucks and takes my money and why can't i play for free but still get prizes and good tourneys with 4 ft boards'... maybe we could get somewhere.

lancasterpolo.com
agile for my size.

Sprinks and I hashed this out a bit more via fb after my post. I'm not sure it makes a ton of sense as a continent-wide project (at that scale shipping becomes prohibitively expensive) but it may make more sense on a regional level.

My basic issue with how things are currently done is that the boards built for qualifiers are not always permanent or reused. They become one-time expenses when they should really be amortized over a number of tournaments.

Expect some actual research/solutions at the ESQ

Do it in your region first. worry about continent wide later.

Exactly, Nico. To add a little about one-off / reused boards...

Sometimes you can find [larger] construction companies in your area that'll donate used wood that they've used for forms if you tell them it'll be recycled. It's especially good if you've 501c3d your club and they'll be able to use their donation as a "green" write down. All the rage and shit.

Sometimes they'll even deliver it to the site for you... all you gotta do is scrape some concrete and pull a couple nails.

Generally it's gonna to be cheaper to construct and store your boards locally than to ship that stuff around LTL or on a trailer owned by NAH with gas prices and shit.

Some of our lumber was 'loaned' to us by a sponsor who's expecting it back, or i'd say we could legitimately consider using our courts as a Guinea pig to try it out.
Or....
We could just book Frederick for every east sides from here on out, and have no issues, super cheap courts, and a great time.
my 2c.

egg harbor township ftw

fwiw i looked into both of the dual courts you posted on dc a while ago. both have a ton of hockey league activity in the spring and summer months... so it seems highly unlikely.

Saturday AM bracket starts at 9am and goes until 2pm. Yes, 9am. as in before 10am.
Set your damn alarm clock and wake up, not too difficult:) Late teams will not be tolerated. You will play with however many members of your team are there/awake and best of luck to you.

There is also a large bbq pit at the pavilion that we've rented, feel free to use it if you clean up after yourselves.

Our club sponsor, Gretna Bikes, will have a full service stand set up for most/all of the tourney.
These guys are awesome, and bigtime polo supporters. So if you need anything, say hi.

The park is part of the Lancaster County Parks Dept. it is an alcohol free park, with park rangers. The park rangers will be popping in now and then to see how things are going, and they will enforce the rules of the park. Please PLEASE PLEASE keep things ultra conspicuous. If you bring it you take it, and if you bring it, its on you. common sense rules the land.
Also, no firearms. seems like a dumb thing to have to say, but i'm saying it anyway.
