Proposal for court use

I have searched around a bunch on the forum bit haven't found anything that specifically addresses a proposal for court use. If I missed it, let me know otherwise I think it deserves it's own topic.

I have made a lot of phone calls here in San Diego and finally have a few people who have at least agreed to read our proposal. So now I'm beginning to write one for our club.

Has anyone gained court access through a written proposal? If so, I would love to see a copy of it in order to help with ours if at all possible.

Lastly, I think it would be a great idea to have the proposals posted for everyone else trying to get court access in the future. It would also be great to gather a list of 'references' of other cities that have embraced polo and are providing court access. This way new cities could present the data to help with their proposals.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Hey Hillbilly

Here in Melbourne (Australia) we (Damon and I) wrote some nice formal letters to the council and it went quite well. The council offered one of their biggest multi-purpose double courts for hire, and then we then negotiated a very favourable price - around half the regular price - and they welcomed our block-bookings.

The court is a double tennis/netball court, about 40x40 meters, and it's great to play on, so smooth and responsive. It's concrete covered with Plexi Pave, like paint with grit and makes for really smooth rolling. The only problem being the price of the court hire was unattractive to some of our players which made it more expensive for the rest of the players.

Send me a private message and I'll be happy to send you the letters we came up with

Sounds great! I just sent you an email...thanks again.

The court details are here on our website

The court is inside a park, which has a BBQ just outside, big grassy area and toilets. Over the road is a big market with fruit&veg and meat

Here is the doc I uploaded to google docs

Have a read. It has a guide on how to use the document and the doc has some tags for Find & Replace so you can use it like a template

Hey, I haven't used google docs much yet but I had to request access to it. Did you mean to keep it like that or did you want to make it public?

denver's court proposal to their city. IMO, this is a good example of a put-together proposal:

yes, yes. but as far as the pics of PHX players, jake is too young to know about copyrights at 12 years old. shhhhhh!

they did get permission to use the photos from the photographer (referring to the ones taken in PHX), and why wouldn't we give em permission? Its for a good cause.

x2

I'm glad to hear that they did seek permission. But the photos are still uncredited, which is why I brought it up in the first place. Others may make the same assumption.

Anybody know if Denver made their proposal yet? If so, how did it go? Also, was it to the city council or parks and rec directly? We've been trying to get a hold of our local parks and rec dept but our methods haven't been very productive yet.

We got some face time with the Denver bike council. They were cool, it was a group to just get the idea of bike polo bouncing in there minds.

Thanks. Our parks and rec guy got back to me so it looks like we'll get a little face time with them later this summer.

Glad to hear you are going to meet with them...keep us updated on how it goes. Good luck!

It's all about who you know (or in this case, meet).

So we met some folks with a Friends of the Park group for the place where our courts are located. They are overseeing all the plans for future development in the park. They got us connected with the Clinton Foundation (old Bill is a big deal 'round these parts) and AmeriCorp (good friends of the Clinton Foundation).

CF and AC met with us because they can use projects to do for the September 11 National Day of Service (when they are required to have service projects). They want to provide labor and planning for construction of new boards on our courts. We just need to gather the materials. They provided an architect and labor foreman. We are accumulating materials through scraps from local lumber/hardware businesses.

We met with the guy from City Parks and Rec who is in charge of our courts. He was cool with our plans for new boards and that the non-profs are helping us out.

I don't know about other cities but Little Rock is strapped for cash right now so there's a spending freeze on all things Parks and Rec and they don't have anything beyond good vibes to give us. But, it looks like, come September, we will have two side-by-side hockey rink style polo courts.

We sent emails to the two local bicycle advocacy groups and one is prepared to give us a little cash for the project and the other asked us to come give a presentation about bike polo, so that is looking good too.

Also, they're building a hostel in the park where our courts are located. Can someone say tourney housing?!

I don't know how it's working for other cities but it looks like the more groups we are able to list as working with us, the better for getting people involved.

Has anyone else partnered with a non-profit?
