St Cago Polo Works HDPE mallet heads Jan '10 batch

St Cago Polo Works HDPE mallet heads Jan '10 batch

Another year, another batch of St Cago heads.

Available in 2 3/8"/60mm by 7"/178mm single cappers which you can cut to any desired length (shorter than 7", that is) and 2 3/8"/60mm by 5 1/2"/140mm double cappers.

The improvement this time around is the material that I machine the caps out of. You will notice that it's black, not white like previous heads. This is because I was able to track down sheet stock made from the same resin as the pipe that it's fused to. This will certainly result in a more durable cap and I'm hoping a more reliable fusion joint, too.

As always, that fusion joint is guaranteed for the first month or so of play assuming that you haven't drilled a bunch of holes right on the seam. Just let me know about the failure, and I'll send you out a replacement head as stock allows.

13 for one, 26 for two. Shipping in the US is 3 for one, 5 for 2-3, more for more. I accept paypal if you've got it, money orders if you don't. "Guaranteed game winning goals."

Current stock: 7 singles 0 doubles (I'll try to update these numbers as orders come in)

They make handy mustache guards, too. Picture used with permission.

It appears as though that man has an Indiana Pacers jersey underneath his shirt ;)

I drilled mine like crazy and it's been holding up fine. I'll take some pics as proof tomorrow.

Again, many thanks lucky! Here's one happy customer.

Drilling at the seam. Hmm... how much can I drill out of the seam and be safe? I'd like to put like 8 1/2" holes in my 5" dbl cap but that would have me drilling out that seam.

Hmm...

The sheet material that the caps are machined from starts at 1" thick. So you should be able to drill 1/2" holes all around the cap between the seam and the bottom of the face no problem. This will not cut into the seam at all.

How many holes across the seam is too many? I dunno. If you return a head on a warranty claim and it looks like the failure was helped along by your careless drilling, I would be less inclined to replace the head for free

Cool, but doesn't the seam go back about 1.5-2" ?

No. The seam is perpendicular to the pipe. The cap is bonded to the pipe with a fusion butt-joint. There is no taper or flange going back into the pipe.

I drilled through the seam in three places- two small areas where the edge met the seam and one big 1/2'' hole on the bottom. Been beating the hell outta it for about three weeks now and it hasn't worried me the least. I have, however, noticed a pronounced improvement in my shooting accuracy. Now I see how some of you better players shoot so straight!

That being said, clearly I've modified mine beyond the manufacturer's recommended specs, so I wouldn't expect a refund even if it were to fail (which i highly doubt it will). Even then I'd probably just buy two this time.

Very nice! I will be placing my order soon!

lucky, are you bringing these to sespi? er, are you going this year?

carve. smash. eat shit.

I dunno. It doesn't seem likely as of today, but there's always tomorrow. If there are still heads left from this batch, I'll make sure that someone from CoMO or Chicago carries them down even if I can't make it myself. Sespi will be the one year anniversary of fused HDPE capped heads from St Cago. Momentus!

Out of double cappers. I had a twinge that I should've made more when I was doin' the fusin'. Polo equipment trends are so hard to track.

i'll be building a single capped out with a MKE shaft next week, i look forward to testing....

Hey Lucky, if you have any single cappers left by the end of the month, I´m going to be in town the last weekend and plan on playing pickup with you guys. Long story short, I want one to do just what Kev is doing.

lucky do you have a package going to spring break? can i have something included to save shipping?

Yeah, I'll be talking with people from CoMO and/or Chicago this weekend about dragging the box down there if I can't make it. There's only 7" singles left at this point, but I'm pretty sure I can get 12-15 of 'em to Pensacola.

I don't think any of us are going to Pencil-cola.

unless we land a fat St. Cago sponsorship to pay for airfare and umbrella drinks, and then we can take those mallet heads to Floridia for you, Lucky.

Sorry, but I already spent the 2010 promotional budget on some sweet posters that're up on the wall behind the urinal on the space station. Really expensive ad rates; but, hey, captive audience right?

If I can't hand 'em off to someone passing through St Louis on their way to Florida, perhaps I'll just mail a box down to Ryan and charge a buck or two more to cover it, which would still be less than what you'd pay to ship one from St Louis to wherever.

Just picked up one of the 7inch Single ended ones from Donnie in Sydney over the weekend. I'll be mounting it like this:

Holey Mallet

Offset on an angle and drilling as much out of it as I can (with 10, 20 & 30mm step drill bits). Will post plenty of photos. Still undecided on whether I drill the middle out of the cap or more smaller holes like a pepper shaker.

Please do post pics. As for drilling out the face of the cap, I would recommend more, smaller holes over fewer, larger ones. It does not remove as much weight, but it also does not create ball-catching edges.

A polo ball can balance in a 1/2" (12mm) hole. It stands to reason that a shot could be affected by one, too.

Lucky - I sent you an email on your contact page but thought I would post here too. Do you have any singles left? If so, I'd like to try one out here in San Diego. Let me know and I can paypal you the $ asap.

Thanks!

Yes I do. The totals at the top of the thread are still accurate. Sorry to everyone whose email I've been slow to relply to in the last week. Been switching email accounts.

And I've been lazy.

There are just eight 60mm X 178mm single capped St Cago Polo Works heads left from the January batch and they are all headed down to Pensacola with Agent Schicago. From the threads, the following people have expressed interest in one or two of these; Kremin MKE, Drizz NOLO, Will NOLO, Chris Hawk NYC, and Mike Polo ATX.

If you want to confirm, send me an email and I'll make sure one gets set aside for you. If not, 8 heads will sell quickly. First come first served.

Thanks everyone. Next batch should be done March/April and will have some smaller diameter heads and the unveiling of the new "tournament" edition heads.
