Brakes.

What type of brakes do you use?  What would be ideal?

front brakes have more stopping power, but no matter how hard i try, i always send myself right over the handlebars.  Someday maybe i can figure out a rear disc brake... or at least have mounts for cantis or linear pull brakes...

anyone know of disc brake hubs that have threading for a freewheel?

no i dont, but the techpro double hinged brake on the rear locks that shit up with out a prob. also you can use those fancy red pads for extra grip.

Front brake when I rode fixed in Van in 2007

Rear (disc) riding free on my Kona Dr Dew in Melbourne.

I've got a dual pull lever on the shelf waiting...

Woric's already using one here, It'll equalise the pull front and rear the way it's setup.

Looks like I"m making a call to my LBS to see what he can get for me.

kev and i tried these out and they didn't really work at all. They actually really sucked, because the tension between the front and the rear brake are not equal it creates a problem with the brake pull.

i think they're designed to purposely pull one cable first and then the other, so that your back brake engages first and you don't endo.  this may be crucial for one-armed bike riders, for whom i think this was originally developed, but i reversed the cables when i installed them because i wanted to prioritize the front brake.

the real problem is that they're just poorly made, the lever is loose in its hanger and doesn't provide much power.

lief just pulls the cable where it runs along the top tube.
