Bullhorns on the polo court

How do people feel about bullhorns on the polo court? I think they should be flipped backwards or banned.

I don't care as long as ends are capped.
Personally, I almost got denutted by a stupid cruiser bar, so flipping back might not make a difference.

Jerk of all trades.

Jerk of all trades.

Bullhorns are good for one thing, letting you know who's bottom bracket you can thread a self pass through.

Zing! Nice one Sveden. And soooo true.

Yah I should really STFU tho, the five hole on my Rollo isn't exactly small.

i dont like the idea of bull horns at all but i have seen some really good players use them

we had a few people in dc using them but over time the number has been going down. we might still have one player left on them.

if a good player with a lot of control has them, its one thing, but when you get speared in the legs and ass because somebody can't control their bike with one hand, it is frustrating.

I'm much more concerned about making sure handle bar and mallet ends are capped to avoid a core sample. I'd also like to see exposed chainrings make an exit from the court. In my younger days I crashed on my mountain bike in a rather mundane way and chipped my fibula on my exposed big ring. Such accidents are common in polo, it's only a matter of time before one of those rings bites back.

i'm not gonna bitch when i see a pair of bullhorns but I do have a funky mark/scar on my sternum from a run in with some from over a year ago
it seems that most who start out with bullhorns will swap them out eventually

...once they impale themselves upon them

A bullhorn in the right hands can be a source of great humor.

Yeah, bullhorns are bullshit. So are rear racks, protruding axles, and unplugged handlebars. These things are all common complaints, but I've yet to see these equipment rules universally enforced at a tournament.

what is your beef with rear racks? i carry a bunch of stuff to the courts every day and i hate wearing backpacks. not to mention, if you are going to a tournament and gotta ride a bunch while you are there a rack certainly is more convenient. its also prevented my wheel from taking a number of direct hits from balls and mallets.

If they are capped then.... I have flop/chops, mostly due to the how narrow the bars are. I'd like to get risers however.

I have bull-horns on my polo bike, mostly for the commute to and from games.
I'll be sawing off about 2 inches on either side soon though as I'm aware that they're getting stuck on other players handles. I like the curve on the left side protecting my breaking hand from side swipers and back-swingers though so I'll leave enough to keep that feature. As for danger, I'm not sure a capped handlebar to the thigh compares to an entire fixie rider falling sideways on top of you (again) 'cos he can't get out of his clip/stirrups in time. :)

FYI, this is Tali's (username whitey) setup as of a few weeks ago.

i have been considering installing an inward facing bullhorn on the left side of the handlebar as i think it would greatly aid in turning to the right. turning to the left is much easier because you don't have to extend your arm as you do when you turn right. that being said...i think a inward facing bullhorn would also result in some undesirable knee bashing.

this is starting to get annoying, trying to ban this and that. i get you're annoyed, but really?
why not just say what specs a bike must meet. like the 5 hole must be x, and the front rear wheel has to measure by x. handle bars must not exceed x length, but must be over y length. maybe limit the type of geometry? and yeah, how about adding chain guards, and mandatory wheel covers made from specific materials?
but on a serious note. my arms have been eaten more by uncapped bars than any other issue. bullhorns are cumbersome, and overall i think they will just weed themselves out. less rules, more matches.

I'm sorry, I don't think that feather is regulation...

I'll fight it all the way to the board of polo arbitration, the feather stays!

that feather is in violation of rule 2 subsection 4 in the official NA Hardcourt Bike Polo rules.

dumbo feather...

I think you'll find that rule two subsection 4 refers to "Animal parts and skins" attached to bicycles. There are regional differences in the interpretation of this...
