TIME ATAC! Always and forever. I've been running the Alium model on the street for years. Last time i got pedals for my polo bike i ended up spending the extra $$$ to get the free-ride "Z" model, for the extra surface area of the platform.
EggBeaters vs SPD
I'm just researching some clipless systems at the moment, and I'm trying to figure out which system I would want to go with. I'm trying to figure out "float" and other similar terms, but I'm having trouble visualizing which would be better for polo/commuting use.
I'm going to be commuting/walking around in these shoes at school (the eggbeaters apparently have a lower profile cleat which would be better here), however, I'm also going to be using them for bike polo too! I'm can't seem to find any definite reasoning why more/less float or which system would be better or worse for such an application, so I turn to you!
If it makes any difference, the Eggbeater pedals are $17 more than the cheapest SPD pedals at MEC, where I'll probably buy them from.
Your enthusiastic reply (as well as tons of great reviews online, ha) led me to splurge a couple bucks on the ATACs!
For polo, I used egg beaters for a while. Then I installed new cleats and quickly realized that my egg beaters worked so well because my old cleats were so worn out. That way I could un-clip very quickly and easily. With my new cleats, I've landed on my ass more times than I can count. Now I'm riding with the Crank Brothers Mallet pedals so I can clip in when I want and then play polo with regular shoes as if I have flat pedals. But, I've ridden all sorts of bikes and spent months of my life commuting by bike and I think a full sized flat pedal with a nice large strap like some of the bmx straps you can find on some of these forums would be the best way to go. That way you can wear whatever shoe you want while commuting and then you have a nice wide platform for balance and maneuvering during polo.
Egg Beaters. Candys. rugged, no adjusting, no problems with clipping out (if you're used to clipless). have several pairs. awesome.

is funny.
i use eggbeaters to my fixed, touring, comuting, and polo bike. (for polo, i use "mallet" model.)
if you use new cleats eggbeater hold better than spd. but if your cleats are attrited, it easy to release your shoes more than spd.
my courier friend like time or spd-sl. they can probably make your shoes fixed to the pedal more reliably.
sorry to my poor english.

It tends to just be what you're already used to- I'm going to be using SPD for polo, since that's what I've been riding on my road bike, and I want all my shoes and bikes to be interchangeable.
