By the time you buy 12,000 zip ties you might as well just carry a chainguard around with you and put it on once you get to the court and take if off when you want to leave.
DIY chainguard
Is there another thread like "how have you covered your exposed chainring?"" or something similar? I cant really find a good match.
I like what Aelx has done here because it's super easy and cheap, it could be added to new players bikes from day 1 and removed when they leave.
I'm not saying it's a great permanent setup, but it's handy and good for the less seriousl players who don't have dedicated polo bikes (yet:)
or just take that chainring off. looks like it would just unbolt and no longer be an issue.

only problem is that some chainring bolts will be too long with no chainring. easily solved, but for the lazy, or those with cheaper, non-removable welded chainrings, this isn't a bad a idea. or a length of chain wrapped around the unused chainring.
A loop of old chain around the exposed ring is the best way to do it- covers the teeth better than eleven thousand zipties or whatever that is.
although it doesnt always work. i tried putting the chain on the outer ring, and once i finally forced it on there (cuz the chain breaker doesn't quite fit) the guard chain was catching on the drive chain. and because the chain breaker didn't fit, i had to use an electric saw to cut the chain off.
eventually i just got a new crank.
but if you have enough clearance for the chain, go for it.
give blood. play polo.
Looks like a hot mess to me.
jusss grind the teeth off and make it nice and smooth like.

then you get that sharp ass shin splitter. some dude post about it before... it was a chain ring that was ground down and it split his shit open.
just buy some new chain ring bolts... laziness is no excuse for putting other peoples' shins in danger...
naw man not sharp at all. dull as newborn's gums. couldn't even slice butter with it. gotta smooooth the edges too into more rounded corners. the real retail deal is just a bit wider than this version. if you hit your shin hard enough on something its gonna split open regardless.

Don't do it. It'll work for a while, but one good hit to it will wreck your shit. Trust me.
been using this method for over 2 years without problems. on the rare occasion when i whack it real good on a BB shot it sometimes gets a bit bent. nothing some precision hammering doesn't fix.

I agree. no matter how smooth you grind it off, a chainring is narrow enough that if you fall on it, it'll cut the bejebus out of you, cheeseslicer style
Better to put an old chain on a chainring than to grind off the teeth.
true that, best options, or use a proper bashguard or only use one chainring

Not exactly the same problem, or solution, but I guess an old chain would be easier to set up, if it doesn't quite fit you could lock it with one of those tie-wrap's.
Looks like those outer chains could use some oil ...
Welcome!

Credo quia absurdum
I guess it w(sh)ould some kind of mortal sin to use a perfectly functioning chain as a chain protector, this one was saved from the scrapyard, but you're right, I'll make it look nicer. :)
Thank you, feels like home already. Just started this maniac sport a couple of weeks ago, and I'm in for a whole lot more of it, but busted my rib last time I played; now have to watch others play... Learning a lot though. :)
or listen to everyone and spend 30 fucking dollars and buy a bash gaurd. fuck.
exactly. for those of you who are cheap enough that $30 > your friend's shin, consider yourself informed that 7 dollars will buy you a set of single-speed chain-ring bolts.
I've been playing with some plastic as well.
With a drill and a jig saw it makes quite a nice diy project.
