Freewheel Cog and a Fixed Hub

I read that this is possible, but I was wondering if any of you have tried it, or how effective it would be, I would only be using it for polo. Just wondering otherwise I would have to buy a freewheel hub and re-lace the rim.

thanks.

I do it. It's all good.

Yeah its fine. I had a fixed/fixed hub from when i played fixed, and when i went freewheel just pulled of the cogs and on go the freewheels.

They thread on to the bigger portion of thread, and the lockring thread sits there unused. There's a little bit less thread engagement (obviously), but there is sufficient contact.

Never had a problem, never heard of anyone having any.

thanks guys.. saves me a lot of hassel/money

yep, no problems here either. i just bought new wheels with a fixed/free hub but would be comfortable running my freewheel on either side if it came to that.

-my stomach is a pickle-

Same here no problems that I have ever heard anyone tell of. Kind of makes me wonder why they make flip flop hubs.

lockring.

yea, i have two freewheels on a fixed/fixed hub. absolutely no problems at all. you'd never even notice the difference.

If it's a Velocity hub, using a freewheel on a "fixed" threading will NOT void the warranty. Like bridges said, less thread engagement but really there's plenty there.

Did a freewheel on a novatec fixed hub....no problem untill had to remove the freewheel....

Less threads meant that the freewheel with the high torque given by polo gear started to bite the aluminium just before where the threads start......it took quite quite some effort to unscrew....
