two bastards and a MKE Pologuard

two bastards and a MKE Pologuard

I totally posed this photo - wife and I went for a ride up Bernal after I finished the manual milling ... even posed the water bottle my way of giving props to Bardstown Rd. Bikes in Louisville. Super nice people, and rad old bikes.

I also tip my hat to what MKE Bike Co, and Shimano and others do for us ... after spending 2 hours with a bastard mill in hand you really appreciate what the machinists and designers can deliver to you in exchange for your beer money.

On a roadtrip my sweet spouse and I stopped by Ben's Cycles and I picked up a pologuard ... been daydreaming about one for a while and I've had these 'old man compact' cranks on my roadbike to swap. They're the hollowtech 2 piece dealios with the spindle integrated with the right crank arm. So I got home and wouldn't you know that the shit didn't fit. But don't dispare! With just a few hours a two bastard mills (yes, I love Stone brewing) I got it to fit. Just follow the machined area that MKE already has in place there. The amount of metal that's left is still a lot more than you'd get out of anything comparable - still beefy as it can get. Plus, I figure that that weekpoint I've made is the least likely place on the ring to get bashed too badly. Anyway. Great product and I'm really glad that it worked out. (and so is my pocket book - though it would have been easy to re-sell around here I think)
