Cheap complete. Worth it?

Avoiding criticisms of their website or their explanation of what a "fixie" is, has anyone tried these on the court? Seems like a fairly cheap way for a new player to have an almost polo-ready steed. But, I don't know anything about the quality, geometry, etc. Anybody got more info?

http://purefixcycles.com/

i say support people who care, not people like this just out to make a buck. new players would be better off scouring pawn shops and kijiji for a $50 and spending another $50 setting it up for polo than feeding the mass manufacturing machine.

also on first glance this site seems to be trying to represent themselves as a company like fixie-inc.com, guys who actually do care about quality, craftsmanship, customization and bike polo.

p.s. fixie != polo bike

some funny things on the site though:

Crankset:
SIGNO 46T
(sugino's younger brother?)

Hubs:
QUANDO Ball-Bearing Hubs
110mm Rear Flip Flop Hub (Fixed or Single Speed)
(110mm wtf?)

Tubes/Tires:
INNOVA Black 700c
Rubber
(rubber!)

refer to the walmart mongoose thread for more feedback.

A cheap complete is impossible. there are a lot of intangibles to cover on a polo bike. some brands simply are better suited. but the general rule is whatever works for you, heavy, light, 700c, 26'', double, single, fixed (and a hand brake..right?)

here's the original thread to read... http://leagueofbikepolo.com/forum/gear/frames/2010/03/26/new-high-end-po...

= buy a frame from a local builder. the quality is well above everything else

I definitely lol-ed when I saw signo (having your same reaction)... and rubber!

i spent ~$500 on my current polo bike, and i already had the wheels...no, i wouldn't ever suggest to someone 'buy this purefixcycles $299 bike it is a good cheap bike for polo'.

i have access to used bike parts and bike tools, i will not buy a pre-made polo bike. someone who doesn't or might not be that mechanically savvy might see $299 (plus some gearing modification) as a great bargain, especially when converting a used bike to 'polo good and ready' will cost near that. i just don't think you can put together a decent reliable polo bike for $100 like HurricaneJosh suggests, unless you're really lucky or a fantastic haggler. definitely lmao at signo cranks and rubber tires though :)

-my stomach is a pickle-

Support locals first, then bike polo businesses (interchangeable, yes). Buying some piss-poor schmuck made product benefits no one, especially you the consumer.

No no no no no no no no no

Go read the Walmart bike thread, wheels aren't just wheels, bikes aren't just bikes. These shit-fixies are weak. Three hundred clams will get somebody a great starting polo bike: old mtb or road frame, used front wheel, handbuilt back wheel, and then your choice of bike co-op bits for everything else.

DON'T BUY THIS BIKE

Junk.

buy something locally

Yeah, I get the vast majority of my bike shit from one (local) place. Just curious if anyone had actually heard of or seen these anywhere. I also agree with brian that a benjamin don't buy no good polo bike!!

While this might be crap to you. My polo frame is a Mercier kilo tt. Complete build is $350. The frame is light and strong, and the wheels have held up to almost 2 years of polo. i had to change out the BB, cranks, pedals, bars, which might have made the whole build $400. I would definitely recommend this to new players, but I would go for this no logo version for like $20 more

We play polo in the ATL

any company that doesnt care enough to level out there saddles for there promo pictures wont give a shit about the quality of there product.
jussss sayinnnn.
go to you local pawn shop, old bike shop or wherever build up a junker and when you build a proper polo bike youll actually respect it and use it to is full potential.
