just letting you know, the shimano m575 brakes are hydralic, not quite what you'd want, you'd have to trade off for avid bb7s, or V brakes.
and to make it ready, you'd have to change the tires to hookworms, get tubes. get mechanical brakes, get a bash guard and more...
think about buying this 1x1 on craigslist.
2010 Surly 1x1 size 18''. Frame just purchased this summer and was built with new and used parts. Bike has less than 50 miles on it. Frame is in like new condition. Parts are all in great shape, with cranks showing normal wear.
Shimano M575 Disc Brakes
Bontrager seat, stem, seatpost
Easton Bars
RaceFace cranks
Sun Rhynolite rims on Shimano hubs
Bontrager Big Earl tires, 2.7's
Set up tubeless with Stans
If I do, What would you to make it ready for the court? I would be new to riding a mtb. I know its a better option than the draft that I got cheap. and I can't afford right now to spend over 700$ just on frame and fork for the joust or fbm.
for some other threads on buying a cheap bike, try

And in my opinion, a frame like SE Draft is fine, unless it doesn't fit right (physically). Lefty Joe uses a windsor the hour (a bikes direct bike) and it should have around the same geometry as the draft. 700c frames are popular nowadays, probably because of the lightness and such. mtb frames are useful because disc brakes, wider tires and more relaxed geometry come with the territory. it's all about what makes you comfortable.
if you want to upgrade frame wise, 8th inch has a frame going for about 130 bucks here
http://www.cyclingcloseouts.com/Products/EighthInch-Scrambler-V3-Framese...
use the code "rabbit"
and if you want to upgrade components, crankset, wheelsets, brakes, etc, then search around the same page above and consider your options. you can do anything from 160mm - 165mm - 170mm crankarms, 48h wheels (you really only need 36h and shields from jinxy unless you weigh like 175+lbs), or a stem, brake change, etc.
hope this helps.

$450 for a 1x1 that needs a new cog, tires, pedals, and maybe cranks (and fork?).
I don't know if I'm ready to upgrade (I have a somewhat functional setup and I'm still too new to know exactly what type of frame would suit me best) but it seems like a good enough deal that I am tempted. Folks here seem to like their 1x1s. Any advice?
Depends what you want out of polo. You'll reach limitations on a 1x1 that you'll never reach on a more polo specific bicycle. What those limitations are probably vary from person to person and a lot of the time you can compensate for those limitations with determination and skill.
The 1x1 is a fat ass mountain bike. But I would say it's probably the best of the fat ass mountain bikes when looking for a polo rig.
Personally, if I was looking for a polo frame right now, I'd be looking in one direction only and that is right here: http://leagueofbikepolo.com/bike/voidcore/marino-custom-polo-bike. These guys out of down south look like they know what they're doing and somehow they're doing it for fuckin' cheap.

Get it. If nothing else it will be a sweet ass single speed MTB for you to destroy all comers on your next urban adventure/bar crawl.
If you do use it for polo I would suggest getting a fork with less rake. I have a modified fork on mine. 3 out of the 5 players who run 1x1s in our club use a steeper fork.
a bird tells me cameeeeeeeeeo of nanaimo might sell his 1x1, polo ready.

Not before slapping some digitally printed wheelcovers, a skin grows back top tube pad, and a bunch of 'BIKE FUCKIN POLO' stickers on it so that fellow faux divebar-goers will know exactly how cool I am. u_u
Honestly though, the advice is appreciated. Thanks all.
