Cockpit length?

So now that I have my new frame coming to me and all, I am ordering parts. I was wondering how does everybody's cockpit length (tt+stem) compare to say their road bike? My road bike is a 53cm top tube with a 90mm stem. My new frame also has a 53cm top tube. I am torn between getting a 90mm Thomson stem, or get a 50mm BMX stem of some form. Help?

while this is extremely true, I'm pretty strapped for cash so I want to be able to bet on the one with better odds of feeling "right" so I want to see what the majority of the others are doing.

Well to drill in my point I would say beg, borrow and steal a couple of different stems from your bikes or your friends for a night and see what fits better.

To be less of an ass about it, and if those are your only two choices I would say the 50. This is taking into consideration that you're fit correctly to your road bike. If, while riding your road bike you find that you have pain in your lower back or numbness in your hands I would say get a longer stem on that and use the 90 on your polo bike.

Okay awesome, thanks. My road bike got professionally fitted so its extremely comfy

I had a professional fit on my commuter as well, I run a 56 frame with a 140 stem. my polo bike is a 55 with a 90 degree plus some help from the bars. maybe 100 total.

That was unbelievably helpful, thanks!

An idea I stole from Doug Fresh is get a thud buster, then preload it or trim the busshings to get extra saddle position adjustment range. Added benefit is its a cushioun under your ass. Short travel works well with a little zip tie preload.
