ya comfort for bmx saddles vary between "uncomfortable" and "really uncomfortable". bike polo requires steering with yer ass, you want something to grab onto. whatever you get, make sure the cover won't rip, that's definitely one big advantage of brooks.
Your saddle, best saddle for polo?
Soooooo its getting about time to replace my seat, was thingking about just recovering it but its pretty uncomfortable anyways. I love my brooks b17 on my touring bike but cant see putting an expensive seat on my polo bike. Any one with comfy/durable suggestions?
Joe Burge runs a pivotal, still don't know how he does it. But, I know someone that tried this saddle before, totally on the other side of the spectrum when considering a bmx pivotal.
use whatever makes your ass happy.
haha yeah my brooks already has gravel marks on the sides from people borrowing it and considering my polo bike was $40...$100 seat just doesn't seem right.

Don't worry about putting a 100 dollar saddle on your bike! Think of it as an investment for your boys and what not. It's just a bike, make it comfortable for you.
People will always bitch and complain after they haven't spent enough money.
People will never bitch and complain when they did it right the first time.

Same with tools. I've never heard anyone--after spending time researching hand/power tools and finally buying one that was ultimately more expensive--say "Gosh, I wish I would have bought the cheaper tool."
If you can afford it, do it... if you can't, save up (novel concept, I know) until you can.
He's right. It seems ridiculous but it's totally worth it to get a Brooks, or any other saddle for that matter, which will be consistently comfortable while playing. It's so key.

the saddle rail on my Brooks (b17) bent awkwardly on a skid out about a week after I put it on. tried using a vice to correct the angle but no dice, saddle leans downward to the right. sucks, but i still like it too much to bother replacing anytime soon. Others have also told me of problems with the saddle rails bending or completely snapping in low impact crashes, but then again I also know of peope who have had no problems like this at all, just chance I guess.
I separated my Selle Italia Flite Classic from one of the rails on a hard skid/crash. I was able to reattach it, but they're crooked now. It hasn't been noticeable enough to change. I have no cheap saddle recommendations though.
Contact Brooks. My B17 imperial did the same thing then broke about a week later. They stand behind their product quite well. I had to send it back but they remounted my leather to a new rail, and it's a brand new saddle, without the break in period to conform to my, well you get the idea.

One of the London guys broke a brooks at last yeas ECMCin Berlin, he went spoke with the brooks guys and got a new saddle on the spot, no question asked
I'm running at Charge Stool, nice and comfy, and easy to grab with my legs, looks a bit like a BMX saddle

regardless of whether or not Brooks will replace/repair.. out of 13 comments, 4 have reported the same break. comfortable saddles, but not necessarily polo tough.
I think one was about gravel - which leather handles better than synthetic materials - and another was a similar problem with a selle. I honestly like the beat up look of my b17. I'll never be able to sell it for a photo model bike builder but ...

? I'm not concerned at all about looks or scuffs
I was talking about the weakness of the saddle rails mentioned by myself, will, smrtbee and rik.
Will's was a Selle Italia.
Maybe we need to propose a new rail diameter standard for bicycle seats?

sure, also include composition, rail angles and weight.
but really, this is just a personal opinion/review for those who are about to spend over a $100 on a saddle that may or may not break during a sport it wasn't built for (in 2 years this is the only saddle I've ever had an issue with). i got this because i could for cheap and sure the novelty and trying of something new, I would not spend retail on it for polo but perhaps would for any other bike of mine. if the OP already has one, hell yeah go ahead, many people use brooks with non issues, but know there are some.
Oh my, definitely don't throw money at it! Keep on playing and slaying with a good attitude and before you know it Brooks will be putting your beloved leather on a new frame without asking questions.
Try hammering on your saddle with a 20lb sledge. Your bike weighs more I bet. Shit happens.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.. are you offended by honest criticism? if anything a company already making tournament stamped polo saddles might be interested in such feedback in order to make a beefier saddle/rails for those of us who crash a lot.. who knows.
but also I have tried using a rubber hammer.
Surely you can't be serious! Of course I'm serious. And stop calling me Shirley. *wink*

Ps steel head, 20lb pound hammer.approximates 15mph dropped and bouncing bike better. Just don't crash? Dont go fast? Just kidding.
Edit, add: pps I concede that a Brooks saddle isn't the go-to polo solution. But they sure don't suck. And a lot of saddles do.

I whacked my brooks saddle with a common hammer when I got it last year. It softened up enough for me to play in Berlin a few days later. It still has the scuff marks but ask yourself: "am I going to spend more time looking at my saddle or planting my arse on it?"
I have had no issue with the brooks since.
Ps. I only got the Brooks for registering early so can't comment on price vs function.

i got one of these cheap from jensons(paid under $40 if i recall). kind of an ass hatchet, but it's been pretty indestructible. I bought it mostly for the over-sized rails, because i kept bending rails. After destroying like 3 saddles in a couple months I figured I'd get something that might last a minute.

In black too. Similar to the WTB DH.

I bought my first Selle Italia Flite in 1992. I thought $90 was outrageous for a saddle. Almost 20 years and 4 bikes later, it is just now starting to fall apart. They weren't making them for a long time so it took some searching for NOS. It now appears they are making them again.
$99 bucks at excelsports
We have tons of old specialized take off seats, and i grabbed a nice wide Sonoma saddle. i the fact it retails for $50 is pretty nice too. Most of the kids here play fixed so we're on the saddle non-stop, and after riding my bike a few other kids pcked one up too. . It's really plush and f you can't drop the coin on say a brooks, this is a good way to go. i think there is one for like $35 too.

HI. I am wanting to buy a brooks saddle for polo. I am a female so probably would need a different seat from men. any experience and suggestions on which to buy??
cheers.

their classic B17 comes in a women's model as well. i believe it is slightly wider and shorter. i don't find the comfort of brooks saddles to increase drastically with their more expensive models, it is mostly looks and weight. i buy B17s and cut leather off the sides to lose some weight, remove some stiffness, and make them look more "streamlined"
i kept getting jabbed in the back of my knee by the pointy nose of my old saddle, so i bought this snub-nosed BMX seat & love it

i've been riding the wtb rocket saddle and am very happy with it.

Ended up with a nice Fizik saddle that has some plastic sides which is super nice since I like to drop my bike on the ground...$120 saddle from a swapmeet for $20.

i bought an odyssey veteran saddle online, $10

i like. little wider than road, not as slick so more control when out of the saddle.
I've been using my b-17 on my polo bike, and I love it !)
B-17 Brooks for life! Seats been on at least four bikes and still comfy as fuck!

I'm a big fan of bmx style pivotal "seats". Super cheap, durable (especially models with kevlar fabric) and easy to adjust. Comfort varies but they have come a long way recently with designs that you can actually sit on.
