48h Salsa Gordo Rims

48h Salsa Gordo Rims

Has anyone tried this rim for polo? I was having trouble finding rims other than rhyno lites in the BTI and J&B catalogs so I looked on the internet and found these and they look like they would be super strong, but just wondering if anyone has tried them

These deserve their own thread, but you might also want to read this stuff: http://leagueofbikepolo.com/search/node/salsa%20gordo

If you have any questions about them hit me up. Currently on my 2nd set and I like them a lot.

Err, why a second set?

Pro-friendly bike polo!

I don't plan on ever having a rear rim last more than a year. It gets at least 3 hours of constant physical abuse 52 weeks a year. Salt, sleet, rain, snow, potholes and bar hopping all the usual abuse. I even commute on my polo bike when the snow gets too deep.

Add into the spring/summer/fall seasons where it will get 6-10 hours a week of face pounding action and you've got yourself a recipe for dents, dips and cracks.

That being said, my rear wheel took a nasty t-bone at COG and was never the same again. Not that I didn't ride it all damn season until this winter. Perfect storm for denting a beefy rim.

V-brakes + winter weather = destroyed rim sidewalls. My Rhyno Lite rear rim will probably make it to next winter...but not any longer. And yes I do clean my shit, but riding to polo and playing pretty much negates that loving care.

Been running one in the rear for about 3 months. No problems so far, very easy to build up and true

I just ordered some 48 Shimano Hubs and Ryhino lite rims. Should have them Thursday. Cant wait. Ryhinos are cheeper than Salsa"s.
We will see how they come out.

So I just finished my wheels!!!!

I too have some 48 hole Sumos and have been on both ends of t-bones and they have held up quite nice after 4 months

have them on my joust no problems or complaints

i have the gordos laced up to a set of profile 48's and they are rock solid! i say go for it

how are those wheels holding up? about to buy/build the same.

Get chukkers imo, i know someone whose brake surface cracked at the weld after like 3 months

I am really really hard on my wheels. I weigh over 200lbs. I've had the same rear wheel for 1.5 years or year round abuse. I've had the same front for almost 2 years.

I have never had a problem with my El Gordos. Your mileage may vary, but implying that Gordos are structurally unsound isn't good advice.

In my opinion, width is more important than depth when it comes to polo rims. Gordo's are wide.

Gordo width 27mm
chukker width 32mm

Yup.

Not that its a big deal... but 32mm is the depth of the Chukker.

the deep part is what i'm trying to stay away from. my deep Vs have multiple dents on the non-sidewall part, one more last nite, hopefully they make it back to the street rig before too many more.

I wasnt implying they where structurally unsound. Just saying for 25 or so more dollars youll be getting better rims

Why are chukkers better than the salsas, because they cost more? Or is it because you saw one break one time?

Neither of those are very good arguments. I'd much rather see evidence than an anecdote about your personal experience, because I've seen chukkers break too but don't go around saying that they're "inferior" just because I've witnessed it.

Feel me?

i disagree. i think donkey kong is the best game of all time.

Well I must take this as fact then because you, Chris Williams, are considered top authority on video gaming opinions and everything you say is gold.

good point. i played on my chukkers 3 or 4 times, light pick up and they were already dented. that said theyve held up remarkably since then. but so has my girlfriends dp 18 front, and alex adventure rear. lotsa different results depending on your care of them. a decent wheel will perform as well as a comparable wheel. if you've had bad luck with a set, doesn't mean theyre shit. i have to deal with this every fucking day with the drunks that come into the shop i work at.

far better than ryhno lites. i love sun rims, but ryhno lites are pinned and the gordo is sleeved and welded.
