The perfect bike polo jersey?

First off, I am relatively new to the sport of Bike Polo and I love it! I played Lacrosse(Box and Field) when I was young and Bike polo is the closest I have come to the rush that I got from lacrosse; serious technique combined with speed and possible violence. So I'm hooked. I was originally thinking about trying Cyclocross for years now but I just couldn't seem to ever do it. Now I know why. Bike Polo is everything that a fun sport should be; cheap, cheerful, hard, fun, exciting, team oriented and tough. Cyclocross is none of these and they still wear tights!! WTF! Bike Polo is a "do it yourself, from the ground up" sort of sport and Cyclocross is a "buy your way in" sport. Sorry but Bike Polo is surfing and Cyclocross is tennis...or maybe even golf.
I can imagine that more than a few people who play bike polo also do Cyclocross and this may seem offensive to them but really I am only stating the obvious. Just take a look at the originality, style and inventiveness of bike polo players and compare it to Cyclocross-ers.
But what's my real point? Well, as part of the identity of bike polo I was curious to see if there is a type jersey that would be perfect for bike polo? If so I want to make one. So if anyone has any ideas about the perfect style of jersey that would befit a bike polo player. Please drop in some pics, drawings or just suggestions.

hmm... i would say it's more skateboarding than surfing, but only because of the concrete. i've never played hockey (deep south = no ice, although new orleans did have a hockey team called the brass in the late 90s. wtf?!), but i think a hockey style jersey would be fitting.

Identity of bike polo?!? What in the hell are you talking about!?!

I don't give a wet fart for what anyone wears, rides, drinks or any of that other judgmental horse shit.

Throw your mallet in. Remember rule #1. That is all.

Cyclocross is definitely fun, but nowhere near as wild as any given polo night. Cyclocrossers seem to be mostly just working class white guys cutting loose on the weekends as a "crazier side" to club riding season. A bunch of us polo guys showed up to a race once and staged some grass games right in the middle of their course and that was fun. Another time we showed up way too rowdy (kentucky-drunk) and well... um, let's just say that the mud pit contained a high concentration of urine.

Saw this a long time ago.... Love it!!

I need a sugar momma so I can work less and play polo more!!

There must be a link between how good "Kentucky drunk" sounds to say and how appropriate it is...

I vote T-shirt. What happened to that Spazzlocos shirt? That shit was awesome.

Yeah, we only made a few of them. I think there are only 5-7 people out there with one. Am I hearing interest in doing a run? Ah, nevermind...

I also am curious as to other ideas because tshirts seem/look so cheap and the nylon/poly/racing jersyes look kinda dorky usually.

maybe hockey style jerseys?

I like the sweater idea. Since it's getting cold & stuff. Something like Martin's Canucks sweater he wore at COG.

I have also been waiting for the hoodie with all the bike polo logos all over it as per kev & alexis's idea. Can I get a status update on the release date?

Logos all over the place would look a little too busy. Ed Hardy goes bike polo?

its not an ed hardy look its an urban apparel look ..think the NBA team logos all on a leather jacket or XXL hoodie

yep, like jake said.

I think I could envision that...

Martin: just imagine something you could buy at the dirt mall and wear to the liquor store.

(PS The dirt mall is Kingsway Centre)

Got it. Okay. Yes that is appropriate for polo players.

An industry first in equestrian protective apparel, Equetech have teamed up with d3o™ to create this revolutionary competition shirt. The shirt contains d3o™ ‘Intelligent Molecules’ that react to the speed in which they are moved.

“d3o™ is a specially engineered material made with intelligent molecules that flow with you when you move but on shock lock together to absorb the impact energy”

‘d3o™’ panels are postioned on this shirt to protect the rider’s shoulders on impact with the ground / objects to lessen the likelyhood of injury to the shoulders, collarbones and joints.

The shirt is virtually seam-free with woven selections in optimum positions, creating ultimate stretch, breathability and shape retention to ensure the rider has complete freedom of movement.

60% Polyamide, 35% polypropylene, 5% Elastane. d3o is machine washable at 40 degrees. Easy care.

And Mr Hunter would look great in this

The longer you wear the d3o, the intelligent molecules absorb into your flesh. Eventually you grow a Cheshire grin, wear pleated white pants and start driving a myata to the game.

I have this pullover I wear sometimes when it's kind of chilly. When it's hot, I wear an undershirt. When it's cold, I wear a jacket. Sometimes I wear a t-shirt. This one time, I was feeling super crazy and I wore this poly jersey I'd just stank up while riding 40 miles or something and just didn't want to go home and change.

Haha. I once played in my jersey on my way to such a ride... but I don't really count it as playing, cause I was waaaay too worried about hurting my 'nice' bike.

My craziest was playing in a strapless sundress. I must say, every team I was on won that day. Those straight boys are just too easy!

Anything by Carhartt works really well.

If the weather isn't too cold I think a polo shirt is best.

like this ? http://domsofhollywood.com/#cart_restore your a perv.

Yeah something like that. For me the logo is whatever the thrift store happens to have. Someday I might spend money to get our club's logo put on some.

Damn, you guys are going to have me embroidering little mallets and such all over my clothing soon enough...

lol@lacrosse player calling anything a "buy your way in" sport.

i think you would look wonderful in a v neck, knitted christmas sweater with a big ole dink on the front.

Lacrosse in Canada is far from a "buy your way" in sport..more like a "leave your teeth at the door" sport. Nothing like the preppy US version. I think a crossed mallet and dink on a v-neck is the best idea yet. Taking orders now!

I want merino wool t-shirts w/ letterman jackets to hang pin from tournaments.

P/M Hardcourt

Coming from the wet coast of Canada, I'd have to say a wool jersey, akin to those that the Seattalites are sporting these days. Swobo makes a great long sleeve wool jersey... (thanks for that one two summers ago Seattle!).

Here it is, the perfect polo jersey!

http://htatbl.swobo.com/weblog/archives/RainbowUnicorn.jpg

I would suggest something like a soccer goalies style jersey, long sleeves with padding in the fore arms, plus goalie jerseys are supper soft and come in a variety of stupid colors.

And just from personal experience merino is awesome, even in the dirty south.

I apologize for reviving an old thread, but I recently had a thought I wanted to share.

My senior year I had the opportunity to play on my high school's first rubgy team. We sucked, but it was the most fun I ever had (up until discovering polo). Anyway, our uniforms were durable as shit. We played without pads in cold weather and mud and yet these things held up to it all. Over xmas i ran into an old rubgy friend and instantly thought of these uniforms for bike polo use.

Here's a couple results from a quick search of google images...

Uber-durable, unique yet basic patterns, short and long sleeve versions, and even a collar on it! ( i mean, this is a gentleman's sport, right?)

Perhaps taking a cue from Adam in NYC, a couple of us in Lexington have been sporting hockey jerseys for winter play. Sometimes you can find them for cheap at discount stores or used equipment retailers. The oversize fit is great for layering underneath, and the material is pretty tough for taking spills on pavement.

I doubt I would want to wear one in the heat of the summer, though.

I would try using a BMX jersey. it's light weight for summer, spring and fall. with padding in the arms. Also you can get what ever you like printed on it the same way they make road riders kits.
For the winter(we don't have that here in CA :) definitely wool. kinda like a winter rugby shirt. some are padded like the BMX kind.

my vote goes to t-shirts...but I live in texas so its t-shirt or no shirt weather at least 9 out of 12 months.

Ideal outfit.
Or ...T-shirt summer/ Hoodie winter.
