SF busted in Dolores Park

Three rangers and two cops showed up last night to issue five tickets and end our night. My citation reads "Permit requirement. Unauthorized athletic activity." Their leader told us it was a $103 fine.

We were told someone complained. There were three empty tennis courts at the time. We were having a fine night with a fairly steady stream of spectators.

Sounds like this will net us a meeting with the elected district city supervisor. The sup. is trying to find the appropriate R&P person to join our discussion. Ruckus had been trying to get a meeting for a couple months with no success.

Well, this is at least a more reasonable reaction than MKE. And if you get a meeting with someone who can do something for you then I would say successful 103$ Sorry to hear you got busted.

That shit 's legit as fuck!

This is not good. Why are we being hassled for playing POLO? First MKE now SF. Maybe presenting BP to your local city council will help. Usually the public can sit in on monthly meetings. City council will allow you to submit a topic for discussion.

obviously just tryin to steal our thunder...

For sure. Your making that shit up. btw Bri....Looking good buddy! I want a t-shirt.

They are fucking criminals. The tickets should have read "whacking in public."

A good point to todays advances is you do not have to go for the head of the beast. Our previous attempts to talk with department heads got typical shuffling and passing the buck. Looking a bit lower down the chain and going for a district supervisor may be the key. A personal point of contact helped get me in to talk with actually people. Thanks Mike.

Cross your fingers.

Thats a sticker, right there... But where are the mug shots?

Are you playing on the single, tennis court, the basket ball court or in the larger section?

I'm kinda flabbergasted by this? it's a sporting facility? do they say exactly what sports you do and don't need a permit for? I could understand if you wern't supposed to be riding bikes on their nice surface, or are they trying to say that because you're organised you need a permit.

Officials in different cities are starting to crack down because they are all in cahoots. McCarthyism meets polo. This is the attention success and visibility could bring. Is your city next?

You guys should look into your local parks programs and see if there is any neighborhood park group or committee, I know that Portland got our Alberta court because they worked with the Friends of Alberta Park to get it appropriated for polo, and more specifically multi use. Sometimes neighborhood associations are involved with the local parks and if one of those neighbors comes by the next day and finds trash or cigarette butts after polo, whether or not you left them there, they think its you and call in the hit squad. The fines just go to show that cops can fine you with whatever they want just to flex and let you know who is boss, but it's bullshit take it to court and it'll disappear.

Yo Dawg I heard you like redundancies so we got a PIN number for your PIN

We connected to a DP park improvement committee. It is months/years before they will start the community input phase.

We have just started a community park group for Dolores, Dolores Park Works. We can help, Yes, go to the permits and reservations desk first. Send a note to Phil Ginsburg, the new park super if you get the run around. Let me know if Rec and Park is being unreasonable with fees or uncooperative.
Good luck.

What a small internet! One person advised that the person at the other end of the reservations desk phone is a bike hater. Marc Caswell of the SFBC sent Ginsburg a letter on Nov 25 after our last unscheduled visit from R&P Rangers.

I see your blog and will forward it out to our list. Marc and Ben (Ruckus) are also excellent points of contact for us. We'd be happy to work together. Meetings, park cleanup & projects, whatever.

Nice.

If you can document your attempts to try and get a meeting with parks reps or the city, that will add to your case. The fact that you got a fine and no one can tell you who to talk to to remedy the situation is pathetic.

Looks like you need to start here:

Glad those tickets are getting rescinded. At least they realized that part was stupid.
