*IMPORTANT* New WHBPC Space Distribution process

With regard to the World's team selection, NAH unexpectedly found itself asked to sort something that we ultimately realized needs a more thorough process. Problem is, this process didn't exist in 2009. This is an inherently difficult task without factoring in that NAH is working as a voluntary, fledgling group attempting to accomplish something never done before in a time crunch via the internet. It has needed thorough discussion and revision. With this final revision - and not a moment too soon - we feel we have arrived at a solution that is the best we could hope for given the circumstances.

As a body, we feel an obligation to be fair. It's why we entertained the lottery to begin with. But with respect to true objectivity, fair goes both ways. We have a week till all applications are due. After that one more week to make all of our decisions. Here's the new proposal:

- Applications from full teams of three must be sent to NAhardcourtworlds2010@gmail.com. Deadline: April 30th. Most important to include in this email is: all three players names, user names, email addresses, region of origin and your team / player list of accomplishments at tournaments.

From May 1- 7 the following will occur:

- the NAH 21 will choose from the submitted applications the top 13, as per the previous plan. These spots are for teams that without question - largely due to tournament performance - are deserving to go.
- The remaining applications will return to their region of origin and be reviewed by the representatives in the region.
- The regional reps will then present up to four applications of teams from their region for consideration.
- NAH will then vote to fill the remaining 14 spots.

On May 9th, the final list of teams going to World's will be announced.

Now, as of right now we only have a total of 13 -15 teams that have submitted applications, both for "merit" and for "lottery" as per the previous process. In the end, everyone that applies may be able to go. But if we do receive an avalanche of applications in the next week, then we submit that this is a reasonable way to proceed.

Important to keep in mind: this is a temporary system to be used for 2010 only. NAH has already begun to discussion to develop a system of weighted tournaments and an individual-based points system for 2011. We ask that you please hold any questions about this new process for the moment as we will be ironing out the details in the coming weeks. But as soon as we finish our proposed system, LOBP will be the first to see it.

Sincerely, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this discussion and stuck with us as we've worked through this difficult task. Get those applications in folks!

Anyone looking for a free agent to round out their team?

Thanks for staying flexible and responsive. I can only imagine how many extra, anxious hours that meant in the email mines for all of you. All the effort supports the feeling that the right people with the right attitude about organization and leadership were selected in November.

Okay. I have another chance for team recruiting. Contact me if you want to go to Berlin and play some awesome polo.

Seriously, I want to go. My NA tourney teammates are not going and or are already on a team.

Anyone looking for a third or a team - see the new World's Matchmaker Thread! Find that special someone(s)!

WAY better idea. Props for pulling it together the right way.

Just giving this a bump. Tomorrow's the last day to get in those applications.

FUUCK! we gotta find a third by tomorrow? jeezus

The deadline has come and gone. No more applications will be accepted. Thanks to everybody who stuck with NAH as we worked this out.

Now, to the teams that applied, that wondered if they'd make it through this process, that (maybe) waited patiently to buy those tickets (are you ready for the punchline?) we'd like to announce that every team that applied gets to go to Worlds. And with a team from Mexico (Los Chiles) getting it's application in just under the wire, North America will be truly represented by the 18 teams that will be attending! We'll post a complete list of teams shortly.

So, kiss your family and friends goodbye, pack your bags, board that plane or cargo ship and we'll see each other in Berlin.

Thanks everyone.

Nick Vaughn – Richmond, VA
Chris Roberts – New York, NY

All of my tickets have been purchased. I'm gonna spritz all over this summer.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

You people should seriously think about swinging by London while you're in Europe already, for the Open tourney after the worlds.
The scene there rocks.

I found out late that I can go. Got the time off, and figured out my travel arrangements. If a team loses their third I'd like to hop in. I have a strong slapshot and can hold it down in goal if I need to.

I'm so excited! Where do we send the money for NA Hardcourts group submission? And it's 60 Euros/team right?

Wade
Seattle Bike Polo

Talked to Ben today, and he let me know that since the NA teams have been posted, we don't have to send in the money yet in order to secure our spot - it's already secured. The entry money can either be brought to Berlin, or paid in advance online if that gets set up. So, if anyone besides me was worried about it, stop worrying.

will there's a qualification tournament on the thursday if you get 3 people together for that

My plans put me in at 12:30p. When does that start?

probably early. all i've seen said on it is "From Europe and North America will each have 27 slots, and Australasia 4. This leaves 6 remaining
slots. These slots will be played for in a preliminary tournament to be held in Berlin on August 12th."

now that NA is taking less than the 27 slots, maybe the extra ones will be added to this tournament?

Yes, some (if not all) of the slots will be redistributed for that. Another thought was to give more open/wild card slots to NA for teams. Ideally we are using them for Asia or South American team (hello?), but that is not looking like it will happen.

57 kegs a tourny bitch!

Ouch. We do not have the schedule down to time yet, but I assure you that if you are willing to fly out then immediately play we will get you into it.
