Bike Polo in Bicycle Consumer Buyers Guide 1972

So my girlfriend found this article on bike polo from the 1972 Consumer Bicycle Buyers Guide. Or something like that. I know it mainly mentions grass polo but under the rules it mentions how if it is played on concrete then the court should be twice as big. I thought this was kinda neat and thought I'd share it.

yeah its a pdf file. I didn't know how to scan it to jpg on this computer.

Um, Rule # 2: "Maximum size .. is 110 x 80 yards, minum 90 x 60 yards for grass. Dimensions should be doubled for asphalt or concrete surfaces." I'd like to try that.

Holy shit, 200 yards goal to goal? You'd have play like 10 v 10.

Pro-friendly bike polo!

I wonder if that's because the ball they used traveled much farther on the asphalt with their style of play. Annoying grass rules would have to apply here. Nudges at 25mph would be messy.

this is from Seattle right

Hah!

Not to mention what has to be the origin of the "champagne sport of kings" bullshit journailsts always pull out when talking about bike polo.

Quote:

The titled nobles and landed citzenry of years gone by would no doubt raise monocled brows aghast at what has become of their very exclusive sport-- polo. Horses' hooves have been exchanged for bicycle wheels!

Heh, someone should throw the Memorial to the [Milton Forbes Cartier] Memorial Tournaments.

Or how about the R. Boards Grand Classic Prep Challenge?

I have to admit the 'sides have a pretty nice ring to them. I'm still trying to figure out which side San Francisco is on.

After reading that I can't help but think of Joel reading the entire thing in the voice of Ralph Wigam.

Yo Dawg I heard you like redundancies so we got a PIN number for your PIN
