chicken wing definition?

someone in the know define chicken winging for the rest of us...

Put your hands out in front of you as if they were on imaginary hanldebars. Now, take the elbow of what would be your mallet hand and stick it up and out. Move that elbow up and down. It looks like a chicken wing, no?

Now, stick that chicken wing up in someone's armpit and guide them around the court. Or pin someone's arm down with it. Or just use it to poke people.

I think it's used mostly to nudge someone out of the way that has gotten too close. Yeah the hand and shoulder stay pretty much where they are and your elbow comes up to give someone a bit of a push. I've never seen anyone lead anyone around the court with it or trap someone but I guess it could happen. It's very useful for pushing someone over the ball so you can take it from them.

**Posted in the other topic you started Jason**

Chicken wing is a common move in hockey where the are is put out in a triangle to trap the opponents arm then you pull the arm toward you trapping the opponents are between the "wing" and the body.

Way more dangerous in polo than hockey because usually the arm that gets chicken winged in polo for a right handed player is driving the handlebar. The fall is often unexpected and the move is super cheap.

But having your elbow out while riding is not something that can be enforced the pulling folks off the bike can.

chicken winging using your hand that's on your bars i don't mind so much...but with your hand off if your bars it's pretty much just as dirty as grabbing someone's handlebars. especially when you're in the middle of shooting at decent speeds or if you are stopped and they ride through you arm extended instead of going for the ball...what happened to body to body and bike to bike?

Nothing. It's the basis for polo rules. Is Florida's body to body rule different than Milwaukee's?

yeah, in florida you can only put your body on an other's body if you are still on your bike. the guthrake is illegal everywhere but mke. c'mon brohewitt you knew this already.

I think our definitions are definitely different...

body to body: kicks? can I take my foot off my pedal and kick/extend it to turn someone's steering arm as I ride by? why should an arm/hand/mallet be giving exclusive rights to this specific body on body contact? exploiting contact rules should be as lame as any other questionable play...headbutts? clotheslines? shoving someone off their bike after you dab? technically these are all body to body and apparently the person doing them decides whether they violate the don't be a dick rule...

bike on bike: using your bike as a barrier to cause a tbone or broadside when a player is accelerating on a possible breakaway is a garbage play as well...not just milwaukee used this during the tournament.

if it's within the tournament's vague definition of rules and before the game the two teams discuss and agree upon the use of these tactics I don't have such a problem with it...but when one team loses because they played a gentlemen's game and weren't the first to "stretch the definition of the rules" it's too large a disadvantage. you warn me there is going to be pushing of steering arms, broadsides and tbones and shoves after dabs then at least there is an attempt at fairplay...otherwise it's a case of cheat first, cheat best.

I think it speaks poorly of milwaukee in general as a club that nobody stepped up to apologize promptly, publicly and loudly for a certain player's actions...which is a shame because you have some talented players...we're smaller and newer but we've banned players in florida for jerkmoves on the court.

as far as I know FTL is the only florida club that has banned players. SRQ, tally, pensacola, jax, gainesville, fort myers, tampa, orlando-edit and st. pete-.. am I missing anyone.. haven't banned anyone.

just for an fyi

didn't mean to speak for all of florida...just responded in the same words as the question.

I understand, I however feel banning people from playing polo is a pretty serious topic apt to start it's own thread at some point. So be clear that only ftl has made that choice.
