Conflict Resolution precedent needed
Polo is growing, and as the numbers swell with type A+ personality styles our community increases its risk of atrophy. I believe this should be prevented. Shit there was a damn fist fight in the mid-west. Anyways I think it would be helpful if we would create some guidelines about how to appropriately dislike and disagree with people. I think its in the best interest of our continued enjoyment of this sport.
Some ideas:
Some people aren't rad, most other people already know this about them. Its ok
Stop having disputes in public forums instead
Confront people with a goal of keeping the community healthy, not because you need to be rite.
No matter how big it gets and how athletic the competitions become, bike polo is a club sport and an avocational (not-paying) pastime. As such, your pick-up environment with your club will be the mantle upon which any player or team from that club will be placing their potential trophies.
Protect that environment. Make sure it is nurturing and supportive of both talent and an attitude towards the game and each other that you all agree on. If there's some super-jock spoiling pick-up, but winning tourneys, let them know that there is a hell of a lot more pick-up than the other to be played, and that their attitude sucks. Don't be afraid to ask them to take some time off on behalf of the club (assuming this was in fact a club decision).
Bottom line: be a grown-up.

Deal with assholes in pickup. Someone playing like a jerk should find themselves without teammates. Tell them to chill or suggest they try out for X Games.
Watch how they play newcomers. Someone who constantly runs over newcomers needs to know they're doing it wrong.

basically jared attacked chris at pickup. it fell to the lexington club to decide what was to be done.. thankfully jared decided to take a year off from polo (a "self imposed ban" of sorts). he finally made his return this spring and seems all the better for it. time puts everything in perceptive.

It's so silly to me that someone would ostracize themselves from an entire community of people with their attitude and declare that they don't give a shit about anyone in that community, do nothing but create drama everywhere they go, and then go and get all worked up when the community is like, "okay then, fuck off".
