CSI: LA BIKE POLO

PIC-0005.jpg

Our apologies to the pit. CSI: New York filmed in Los Angeles today, and one of the scenes involved Bike Polo. A local bike shop renting "Polo Bikes" to the studio tipped us off to the job. We got paid extra for bringing our bikes, and they some primo disc wheel covers for everyone that didn't have one, which we got to keep. We played games for a few hours until they got their cameras set up and everything. One of the bikes had a camera mounted to it, while a player got to ride it while handling and shooting a ball. Hopefully when they put the shots together it looks good, they actually had us do a lot of takes without even using the ball.

Here's the prop guy doin' our wheels up

yo montana. this the type of capitalizing you were afraid of? yeah, me too...

Nah, this sort of thing won't ever happen. Bike polo is just a small time fad that nobody's ever heard of. You're just paranoid. So LA is the new New York huh? I like that they turned polo into Rollerderby. Who gets to be the "Brooklyn Bruisers" at the next tournament?

Can somebody please save me one of those t-shirts? I'll definitely give you twenty bucks if you have a small.

Sorry Montana, those were props we had to return them. They were pretty cheesey iron-ons anyhow. But we did get spoke cards, which is cool because that was the plot device tying CSI to the Polo (according to the script I read)

how many spokecards did they give ya? eh? ehhhhhhhh?

Yup! Getting paid to play polo was a sweet deal! Oh and looking at hot chicks all day wasn’t so bad either. I think I am the only one who made off with a prop. I received a well made mallet courtesy of CSI NY.

I wonder if the prop people read this site to figure out stuff for the shoot? More than likely.

We asked if we can have the stuff and two people said yes. Though I thought it was odd when I noticed at the end of the shoot a man from the crew was searching through our personal bags without our permission. I originally had two mallets. those disk wheels look clean… looks like the prop guys have 4 foot hole saw… #jealous

I haven't even read any of this shit. All I saw was the photos. I'm obviously taking it too seriously when I say this, but this is one of the most insulting things I can think of.

An enormous 'fuck you' to everyone involved.

Thanks Menace I was waiting for something like that.

Oh we love you too Redmenace!
This shit was going to happen with or without us. The scene was portrayed by real polo players not S.A.G members. I think that is a plus.

what's the difference, i've never seen any of these guys at a tournament, SAG or not.

p.s. who are you?

We're new to the Polo scene. So what?

Nothing wrong with being new, I don't have any issues with that.

All I'm saying is, as a member of the NYC polo crew and a dude who actually, you know, lives in Brooklyn, I can't help but be a tiny bit insulted at the idea of some west coast guys I've never heard of or played against representing 'us'. I know it's TV and I know the entire fucking thing is plastic like everything else in that world, that's why I feel not-just-a-little bit stupid for even taking it seriously enough to write this, but I can admit that polo is as close to my heart as I dare let anything get, and it annoys to see our polo identity cast in flimsy plastic like this.

That said, it doesn't matter. It's all meaningless bullshit and it's not worth getting upset over. So, fuck it.

p.s. you had all these professional prop guys and that's the best representation of the pit they could come up with? sad.

Thanks, I see your point. I posted these up so you'd at least hear about this from us not some Access Hollywood or whatever. The first line of the post is 'our apologies to the pit' and I meant it. Wish I was seeing you Sunday, but Happy Birthday if I don't get the chance.

yeah it's bad timing, for sure... i'm bummed not to be playing, particularly with guests in the mix. i had it on my schedule to be at this Flyers game since the schedule was announced in september, so i'm kind of committed. didn't realise it would turn out to be such a busy weekend.

Yo that guy all the way on the right is definitely going to tap out. Montana obviously lifted the "tap out" (I wonder what the real inverter called it, cause "tap out" is retarded), from this film. Fucking copy-cat.

Yeah, I know, it is really stupid. You're actually tapping "in", but tap in sounds just as stupid. Although now there's that fucking MMA reality show on whatever network carries The Tour that's called "Tapout", with a bunch of white trash retards in clown makeup pretending to kick each other's asses. So, by association alone, I suppose "tap-out" is stupider than "tap-in" now. Oh well. What else should we call it?

Oh man, I'm sure I know somebody who knows somebody who's the underling of a producer for CSI:NY
Whoever that underling is should get a smackingaround for not knowing that Polo is just as prevalent in NYC, and faarrrr more scenic. Bad location scout! BAD location scout!

I would think that the writer/producer/underling in question had seen polo played at the Pit, hence the storyline. FIND THAT BASTARD. But once in motion, there is no way they'd use a day of NYC location shooting for 11 seconds of screentime when they can use a parking lot in LA. Doesn't make it better, just saying. Actually, I think it makes it worse.

Yeah, the real injustice here is the depiction of The Pit. Sad.

chicagobikepolo.com

other than those obvious NY skyline shots in the opening scenes, I think most of CSI NY is filmed in LA on a regular basis.

Hey everyone,

This seems pretty neat to me... While you're getting concerned about west coasters representing ny players, I'm taking a slightly broader view of the situation. You're representing me too here, and who knows how many other cities around the world that have bike polo and get CSI:NY. I'm generally impressed by the production quality in CSI so I'm looking forward to seeing the episode. great work!

Hey dudes (mostly red menace), they were going to hire someone else to play polo if these guys hadn't done it. Would you rather polo be depicted by a bunch of 17 year olds who just got their first fixed gear or some guys who had an idea what they were doing?

how about fucking neither?

i can portray myself without any trouble. i don't need any fucking help doing it from anyone.

Yeah, that would be ideal, but the map is not the terrain. Those guys are right, it would've gone down with or without them. Until we can really get organized, this sort of shit is going to be an issue, and I respect their decision to get involved. Even with a cohesive, well-funded Federation I'm not sure what a reasonable response would be to this. I'm more concerned with the apparent portrayal of polo players as violent criminals (and motorists?) than with the LA/NYC discrepancy. Where do you park your car near the Pit, Adam?

what? you know i can't drive and i'm not allowed to get a license...

i didn't mean specifically "i wanted to be in this wanky-ass tv show", i meant - in a broad sense - i don't want anyone else portraying me, ever. i'm me, i got it covered.

it's just tv and who gives a fuck. i know that. might have been cool if they used some other shitty town instead of ours to rip off, though.

What about at LMM? There were like seventeen of you. If you weren't such a hero, maybe all the kids wouldn't want to grow up to be Menace. Some other shitty town? You can't front, you're from Philly anyways.

it's true, and i love philly, i would never dis it. i didn't mean it like that, honest! don't get sour...

what -about- LMM? i've been smashing my head against stuff in an attempt to forget all about that mockery... so um... what were we talking about again?

Oh, I didn't realize one of them was going by the name Adam with a nickname of Menace or Red Menace. Now I'm gonna have to ask a friend to tivo this one for me.

Exactly.

I'm pretty sure most sports organizations wouldn't respond to a depiction of a fictional team that plays their sport. Last time i checked you can't litigate against poor taste, nor for that matter should you aspire to become the arbiter of it.

And if you're a local player, say in L.A., you should be able have a good time participating in some stupid Hollywood shit (or for that matter, selling your image to some dumb corporation), without having a central body slapping you on the wrist for it. Doesn't mean that the rest of us won't harrass you for doing something lame.

Hear Hear!!! Well said, Kev (and Montana too). And a giant virtual face-slap to you, L.A. - I'm embarrassed for you and for NYC Polo. I would have loved to be there with Menace and Ken to heckle you. L.A.-M.E.

Who knew you tuff guy polo players were so sensitive? I DID that's why I posted this. We had fun and when we're old and look at this episode we'll have fond memories. You will have your snarky internet comments. No regrets on our end that's for sure. We talked them out of using stuntmen as polo players and playing 4 on 4 and they didnt know what a shuffle was either. I know the polo grounds was very inaccurate but we couldnt fix that. Either way the polo episode was a small part of the episode and i doubt it will have any effect on our game other than public awareness and an uptick in internet chatter. SHEESH!

Ya i didn't mean my comment up above as a criticism, i was just saying that if people have a beef they'll let you know, as menace did, and that the Federation shouldn't make some statement about it, we can bitch about it to each other, it's a personal issue, or in this case maybe a L.A. vs brooklyn issue. i too woulda accepted the money to play polo, glad to know you got some decent $ out of it. i really regret not asking for compensation for the shoot with Intersection. I suppose i participated cause i wanted a chance to play polo against horses at an old French polo club, but i was pissed that they made up a bunch of BS about what clothes we were wearing in order to appease some (potential?) advertisers. Yorgo (le car) has already talked about his disappointments with the shoot over on at http://www.hardcourtbikepolo.com/?p=582

Anyway whatever, it will be ridiculous to see this episode on youtube one day. i'm sure it'll look pretty bad, but from my experience, most times when sports makes their way into some kind of dramatic tv or movie they look pretty bad. and who really cares...

Didn't they find the spokecard in the jacket pocket? And the guy was shot in the chest. Of course, given the small amount of blood depicted by the entry wound, it shouldn't have spread that far, especially in the large quantities shown on the spokecard. But those are crime shows for you. they also don't explain why the guy was still carrying the spokecard- shouldn't it have moved into his "personal collection" along with all of his stalker!pics?

I thought she was going to get away with it.

Just so people know...stop watching after the 1 scene, cause that's all there is. Or you can watch the rest like I did only to find out it was Odessa THE WHOLE TIME!!!!!! But she was only doing it because he was stalking her, so you really can't blame her. She tried to start he life over, but she couldn't, cause he kept following her. Everywhere. The clubs she sang at, school, her apartment. Apparently she could avoid him while going to the CSI classes, but everywhere else he was there. Can you imagine that. It was his fault...he brought it on himself.

I would like to think that she denied the murder, and got away with it (mostly because they set that up there at the end (thank god for hollywood endings)). When does part 2 'The Trial' come out? I hope she lives happily ever after once the trial is over and a jury of her peers find her innocent. Fingers crossed!

Yawn. If you got something let me know. Bitches in cars, um it's beddy-bie time for me. Snoooze

Stupid guy in polo mask, funny. Hey man put this on for our vid-ee-O. Hey I was a fucking riot when I was 17 years old with some blond in my friend's Maverick. But that was like 15 years ago. Er 20 I'm an old fuck now.

Maybe you could hit the ball a little and make us hot.

where can i get one of those Bro-Dozers?

Here's one in the OC David - watch out though man - they roll (as in, over) easy and can't get much better than 10mpg. I'd save the money for bike and bullets in the pistola.

now, post apocoplypse ... beyond thunderdome style ... one might want a bro dozer and be a pistolero with a cache of bullets ...
