great court size, You learn not to make mistakes.
"ok Mr. Schwinn fucking Armstrong!"

Makes for the most boring polo ever. I know because we play on that size every week in COMO!!
Unless you do it 4v4!

maybe boring for just some standard fuck around pick up games.
seems ideal for a tournament final match.

Having 6 players on a 185 ft court is ridiculous; I don't care if they're riding elephants. The whole game devolves into a ditch and sprint breakaway game. I'll play that game all day, but it doesn't do much for the more innovative technical aspects of the sport and is boring as shit to watch.
Of course, you gotta play where you can and host tournaments where you can. I'm only making conversation.

anything bigger than 180ft is illegal anyway.

a little too big but not as huge as a full size rink like como or ftl...I actually prefer too big over too small. I hate when you can laser from anywhere on the court...earn those scoring opportunities! transition defense/offense should be part of our sport, no? if a team fast breaks you then that's a failing on defense. there's a reason not every pass in football is a hail mary or a full court alley oop in basketball, right...because of defense. im not averse to 4v4 with a positional restriction on your "back" player. triangulation plays are the good stuff!
I kinda like those big courts, like in TO for last year for northsides. You get tired quickly, but i like how it opens the game up in terms of vertical and lateral passing.
Keep your standards low, and morale high.
I like big courts for Bench where you can just be sprinting all the time, but Toronto's court could stand to lose about 30 feet from its length to reduce some of the dump and chase stuff. I think 150' is ideal, and last night we talked about cutting it shorter for future 3v3 tournaments.

get in shape, or get faster!

i hate more rules, but maybe an icing rule for big courts? people blindly hit or throw the ball on short courts too, and sometimes its a back and forth with some players... tiring, annoying, and boring.
It's not just the dump and chase that sucks. It's the fact that there is so much free space. Doesn't it look silly to you? Look how much area there is and how few people are on the court! It's on the whole an uneventful game. Passes must be less precise both in direction and force, you are challenged for the ball much less, the free space for a shot is easier to find and the breakaways come almost constantly. Less impressive ball handling, less hits, less scrums, less fun!!!
On the other end of the spectrum, I think South Centrals courts measured 104' end to end. Goals were less than 100ft apart. 140 is what I'd put as my ideal court length. What do lex's courts measure? Or hockeytown in Boston? Or the STL skatium? Oooorrr the 2011 ESPI court? Anyone know about any of those?

Wish we had video of the 5-4 match they played a few games before. ATL pulled off a close one to knock Mobile into the loser's bracket. This video doesn't do these teams justice.
Strike hard. Strike first.

thanks adam! you're always on top of this stuff.
