Polo in Anchorage, AK?

I am going to be in Anchorage for the next 5 days and was wondering if anyone knows anyone who plays polo up there?  I don't see a club for Anchorage on the map... but here is hoping!

Please surf on www.polo-velo.net/english/contacts/teams.htm and you'll find how to be in touch with the Alaska BPC and Howard Earl, his leader (at least if he still plays).

Have fun over there!

Alain

It's defintely worth mentioning that it's a grass polo club, so the likelihood that they worry about where to play indoor hardcourt in the middle of Alaska winter is pretty small.

hey is there anyone in anchorage still interested in getting together and playin some hardcourt polo?

i just moved up here from portland and i am lookin to meet some fine polo folks.

i hear talk and i've read things on the internet about it...

feel free to email me joshlikeslife@gmail.com

Dear Josh -

Remember when we used to play polo together? Remember when you used to show up to humpday hardcourt? Remember when you used to ride the Dan Sullivan? Remember when you used to not be a whiny PAB who is too lazy to get onto the court?

Yeah, those were good times ... what the hell happened to them?

Maybe you will show up to a pickup game that we have going on this Sunday at 8. Meet at OTCC, we will ride to one of the local courts. I might even let you use one of my mallets, seeing as to how you seem to be having a hard time making your own.

Love,
Your mother

PS - how can we represent at the North American Bike Polo Championship if we don't play some polo before we leave?

Yes, it is cold up here.

Just to provide an update to this thread in case some lost soul comes wandering through to find out if Alaskans like polo ... here's the latest.

Polo in Anchorage rocked hard for the Spring of 2009. Things tapered off in the summer due to people leaving the state, climbing the mountains, and fishing the fishes (and otherwise screwing up my polo plans). This early fall a bunch of folks came back and wanted to get into it, so there is now a Friday night game. They have two bags of mallets now, and may have bought a new ball.

I am trying to convince the handful that are playing again to move to Saturday so that I can join up. Folks that I know of who did/do play polo, aka names to be aware of -

Josh - he likes the polo almost as much as he loves the boys
Matt - he likes the polo almost as much as he loves his delicious home brew
Garret - that's me, and I am a whiny little PAB because I have been too busy to play polo this fall
Oscar - I think he hates polo now, or loves work more than me
Spencer - if he is still alive he will find us, and then play polo until we bleed
Big Mama - he thinks he plays polo, or has at least seen us do it once or twice
Brian - the young one. He plays polo so hard that it embarrasses me.
Lee - I don't know why he doesn't return my calls
Evan - he likes the grass (polo), but we might yet convince him to get hard with us
Jasmine - she digs the game, and how
Em - she used to dig it, but I don't know how digging her duggedness is these days

I think that there are more folks who occasionally show up, and I have heard rumors that there are new faces that show up on Friday nights. We will see, maybe even tonight, as I am going to sneak away from my second job for some good times with the polo kids once more.

Yes, it is cold up here.

If Josh is the same one who moved from portland a while ago he's getting a friend up there who might want to play too. Look for it!
