The ball left the mallet from the business side. Count it.
Shooting with your wheel (not a deflection but an actual shot)
At the Barcelona tourney my teammate Marc asked, in the pre-matches rules debate, if shooting with your front wheel was allowed. It was deemed acceptable. So he did, and scored:
My interpretation of the current rules would say that if he shot it (from the end of the mallet) and then used the wheel to deflect, it would be good, but if he shuffled it to the wheel, then no good, and if there had been no mallet contact at all....just a straight wheel shot with no prior control...then no good, but perhaps we should look at ammeding the rule to allow for something like this, cause I say that was a sweet goal, and I'd hate to see something like that disallowed. Maybe a rule should be added that a shot can be made with the small end of the mallet, OR a wheel on your bike......
I believe Drew has it...a shot that crosses the line after any deflections or bounces is counted a goal. An intentional wheel deflection counts if it started with a proper shot. That's the way SF is currently playing. I can't remember how this fits with the TWPHAP* guideline. Rules only work if they enforce something that can be clearly seen and called on by a ref. It seems that counting deflections, intentional or not, works for most people.
* The Way Pieter Has Always Played
I, personally, can't tell from the video if he lightly touched it with the end of his mallet or with the side of his mallet.
Neato factor 10!... count it !
That's called Rad Ball. Look it up.

I think we've traveled this dusty path before....http://leagueofbikepolo.com/forum/rules/2010/02/09/shooting-by-front-wheel
or are we talking about a variation = "(not a deflection but an actual shot)"?
yeah actually that thread was about the same topic (and the same player), but was missing a video showing the actual technique.

With the no BJ->shoot rule, not count it.
Without, count it.
Cause he make a BJ before his shoot, and i think that's forbidden in a lot of tournament now.
But if we take just the lil' pre shot then wheel shot momentum, that's a legal goal. If people don't wan't it to be count, they should write a rule like in ehbpc 2009 in london, were there is some distinctions between intentionnal and accidental reflection. And that's too complexe I think..
to me, that video looked like BJ, to shuffle, to wheel, then goal. no point.
hard to tell if the touch between the BJ and the wheel was a shuffle or a hit off the end of the mallet. if it was a shuffle, then obviously this is not a goal.
if it was a hit, then I don't know. I do know that I've scored goals off my front wheel by pushing my wheel into the space between the front wheel of the goalie and the cone and then shooting along the wheel, but that is more a passive deflection than the radball move.
