scoop assist from behind goal

Today I did a scoop from behind my adversaries goal between the cones and about 5 feet over the cones, and my team mate scored on it. Was that a valid goal or not? I think the ball was over the goal line so it is equivalent to around it, but others thought that it was through the cones, so it would needed clearing.

Any thoughts?
