Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...
That's "less is more," right? so the team with the lowest score wins?
coffee, whiskey, beer. repeat.
btw, if you want to add this to the calendar, go to the tournaments page and add a tournament listing from there. then i'll close this thread. (it's a shitty confusing thing about this website that the tournament forum and the tournament calendar are not the same thing.)
sweet poster, love it. can't wait to be there.
(hey ben schicago, i just went home to ontario and handed out copies of your naccc poster to my family, it was a big hit. thanks.)
I still have original NACCC screenprints. Anyone interested?
And Philly, you have added another beautiful poster to the legacy of our game. You're making prints right? Save two for me!

Will this be open to anyone who wants to play?

This Worlds will be open to anyone who wants to attend (within reason, depending on how many teams register, we may be forced to impose a cap if I think we're exceeding the available infrastructure). As soon as the Fed website is ready for traffic and I have opened a Fed bank account (1-2 weeks), you'll be able to reserve your spot by pre-registering at hardcourtbicyclepolofederation.com. The price of registration will also serve as your Federation dues for 2009, making you a Fed member. Because the Philadelphia Worlds will be the first Federation sanctioned tournament, the rules by which it will be played will be created and agreed upon by the players. Your membership will give you access to a forum at HBPF.com where you can review/suggest/critique the rules by which the Worlds will be played.
What if i don't want to be a fed member but still want to play in the tourney?
Yep. very good point. and me too, I'll as the same question.
it seems like a way to boost the membership numbers by taking advantage of players desire to play. If it was a single act of joining by choice, the membership might be perpetually low in numbers. But if you play in a tournament and they make you a member automatically, well then...

You can simply opt out of any Fed participation. At this point, the only Federation activity which you would have access to or be asked to participate in would be weighing in on the rules of the tournament. All of your entry fee will go towards the cost of putting on the Worlds, none of it will be expended on Federation infrastructure. At present the Fed effort is being paid for out of my pocket, or with the time and goodwill of other players. Right now I'm thinking that your registration will cost $60.00 per player, but that number may come down if I can secure major commitments from particular sponsors. As I said, the tournament will be open to any players. Including your Fed membership or "dues" in the cost of your Worlds registration isn't a dirty trick to get people to join, it was only intended to be a way to encourage players to get involved with the idea of the Federation. It was an idea that I adopted grudgingly after talking to numerous players at the Madison tourney who were suspicious of the idea of paying dues, and suggested this as a compromise measure. I'm actually a little dismayed with the idea, since it implies that the Fed would only ever be useful to a small number of elite players who are willing or able to spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars every year travelling to tournaments. In effect, it limits, rather than boosts potential Fed membership.
Can you please register hbpf.com and have hardcourtbicyclepolofederationofcyclingenthusiastsfromcoasttocoastandevenworldwide.com redirect to that? The latter is kind of a mouthful.

Get used to it, sport. It's a hard life, sometimes (in this economy.) I'm making a concerted effort to end every sentence with "in this economy" these days.
HEY, looking into flights. There are 2 airports in philly, what is the best one to fly into?
EVBP
Northern Standard
Philly International is really the only one, NE Philadelphia will probably only work for your private jet or chartered flight. You might look into Newark International, I understand that flights there can be cheaper if it's a hub for whatever airline you're using, and there's cheap public tranportation (2hrs, $17) from Newark to 30th st. Station in Philly. I'm trying to negotiate with an airline here for a discounted "convention" rate, but Philly is only a hub for US Air, and so far they've been unresponsive (in this economy). Good hunting.

Since I'm not clever enough to tack an artists' credit tastefully onto the poster image somewhere, I'll just put it in here: the poster was made by Eleanor Grosch, an artist and graphic designer from Philadelphia, and Peter Dalkner, one of our players. I like it a lot, and I do plan on having prints available at the tournament.
Thanks Leon, and Montana how about spoke cards?????????????
