Berlin for Worlds2010

The Berlin Polo Gang would love to have you here for the Worlds2010!
Even though no one else is announcing themselves as candidates, we thought we should follow a similar process to the NAHBPC and present our "bid"
That way you all can provide feedback on our plans, which we can incorporate into further planning.
Please check: http://bikepolo.ca/bid/whbpc2010/berlin

Paul and I are planning North American Pre-Worlds Training Camp in Iceland prior to Berlin. Who's in?

Play on a glacier! Meet a gnome! Relax post-workout in blue lagoons! The sun never sets!

Icelandair books free stopovers in Iceland for flights from US and Canada.

please back the date up to september 6 it is a holiday weekend in both the usa and canada. it will also allow at least a month after the north americans to recoop finances.

middle of august would be ideal!!!

Terrible idea...if we do this anyone in college won't be able to go. I think the late July/early August is a perfect time

So your saying have the Worlds before the North Americans? Why wouldn't the same schedule work again this year with the NA in Aug and Worlds in Sept. Also there needs to be time between these two so people can make some money to afford the travel. There was no shortage of participants at either of these events last year.

Also it really depends on the school your going to. Some start after Labor Day some are the end of August.
( perhaps you should TAKE BIKE POLO TOO SERIOUSLY and select your school accordingly) July is still too early in the season for the showcase events to happen. That would be only 3 months of tournaments before the main events begin. The other question is then how do you set the regional qualifying with such a short time span. There will be caps on these remember. Not everyone in the world is going to be able to participate anyway. These Championship events should really be at the very end of the year.

I too think that the end of July/ start of August is too early in the polo season. The World Championship should be towards the end of the polo season...not in the middle. Labor Day is also ideal from North American participants.

You can always miss the first couple days of classes as a student...

Actually, the first couple of days are the most important as a college student. Most teachers will automatically drop any student who doesn't show up on the first day, but don't really give a shit after that. At least, that's how they do it at my school.

ETA: Wait, shouldn't you know this? Aren't you a teacher in that weird non-polo part of life?

Rory is a teacher you should transfer to his school

I teach college...if you send an e-mail explaining why you're going to miss the first day then most teachers would not drop you from the course.

the weekend before labour day should appease most north americans no?

Surely the NA's and the Euros need to work around the World's and when is best for the city hosting them. August is when most of Europe goes on Holiday. September is when most students/teachers, internationally, go back to school/work.

I agree the later the better but I also think that having the Euros and Worlds within a couple of weeks of each other so people can see both and travel between them. (this is being worked through.)

Geneva and Berlin are doing a great job of working together so personally whatever keeps them together I am down for.

Before August 15th is better for many Europeans. I personally would prefer late August, but i think we gotta work with what's best for the hosts. I think more Europeans would have come to Philly had it happened one month earlier, dates of EHBPC 2009 notwithstanding.

Agree.

If people take polo to seriously, they can miss both, school or work, so labour day isn't realy a good argument.
Are the NA dates already choose? Cause if they don't, maybe that NA should manage to get before World not the opposite way.

:::: vimeo profil: http://www.vimeo.com/user1214048 :::::

its not really the missing of work or school but the fact that there needs to be more time to play polo before the NAs and Euros and then have a good amount of time to recoup before the worlds.

Yeah, Berlin!!! So excited!

Whatever the date may be, decide soon!
