You mean Jol is going? Or you want him to...
Is he cool being called an Aussie?

Calling all polo players from Australia and New Zealand who are planning on going to Berlin in August for the world champs: who are you?
I'm wanting to work out who is (ACTUALLY) going. We (the Australasian region) have been allocated 4 teams of 3. Currently I know of only myself that is planning to go.
If there are others out there let me know. It would be fantastic to field 4 teams...hell, one full team of three would be great!
Southern hemisphere represent!

Go Australia!
Just ignore my olympics history facts fail.
and the third rule is...... (next's weeks episode?)

I feel terrible about not getting a team from NZ to Berlin, especially if Australasia has an allocation for 4 teams and other regions will squabble over who misses out...but it's a bloody long and expensive flight from down here. Sadly we won't be sending anyone from Christchurch. I know you wanted to work out who IS going, but now you know we ain't. Does that help at all?
Not 100% sure, but I'd be surprised if they were going. From what I understand the NZ scene has it's eyes on the Brisbane Tournament in Sept...and probably not really considering Berlin. HCBPWC 2011 may be a different story tho' bro.
Does anyone know Dan from Adelaide polo club? saw on their blog that he's intending to go. If anyone is in contact with him could you let him know I'm trying to put team/teams together?
T
Judging by yesterdays side court conversations we could actually send a team representing Radelaide, Dan, Tom and Stephen. All played at the nats. (Stephen played in Morgans team).
Would love to go myself but, alas, I have no money or time.
CHANCE
?
That's fantastic news!
There are mumblings here in melbourne but nothing solid it seems (at least no comment on here or the worlds site)
I THINK there'll be at least three Melbournites.
Sydney? Bris-vegas? Perth?
There are still places now...
are we gonna have to paper scissors rock?
mini-qualification-tourney?
If yr out there let us know.
T
Oh, and teams need to sorted by the 30th of April.
ps. sorry I didn't mention every club in Australia in the last post.
T
I think im in.

I'll most likely be in Berlin. I'm from Brissy, we played in the nationals last year and seriously looking forward to the nationals this year. I'd love to play if anyone else from brisbane is up for it, but weren't the nats last year the qualifiers? I.e it should be the top 4 teams who should get to go if they want? Barring any family committments on the weekend (over there with family) , i'll definitely be there!
I doubt there will be more than 4 teams worth of people that will make it there.
But what do i care?, i fall into that cut off point anyway!!!!!!!

2011 Australian Champions
Hey everyone, FYI, I posted this to bikepolo.com.au yesterday.
http://www.bikepolo.com.au/2010/03/australians-at-the-world-championsips...
Australians at the World Championsips 2010
Australia has been allocated entry for 4 teams at the World Championships in Berlin, 14-15 August, 2010.
At this stage, there are 5 Melbourne players*, 1 Sydney player and a team of 3 from Adelaide who are interested in attending.
If the interest exceeds 12 players at the end of April, we will contact the organisers, who have expressed a strong interest in Australian participation. In the unlikely event that interest still exceeds any additional alolocation we are able to achieve, we will have to make a case by case assessment of teams in the absence of any regional qualifiers for 2010.
(* including 2 North American who live here this year)

Thanks for the info re player numbers Damon.
And thanks to everyone for stating their intentions.
As I said to Damon the other night, I'm very keen to play but I also don't want to take the place of a higher qualified player.
(I fall into the "not quite" category if we go by the nationals, my team was one of the equal 7th place getters) It's gonna be tricky if we have to decide purely based on the Nats. There are more experienced/talented players than I, who's teams underperformed at that tourney....
T
I'd love to go.
The only issue is where I can get the funds from at the mo. I'm job hunting now, so it's pretty far away.
I reckon i've used my carbon credits though for the next 10 years: Mel - Budapest return 2 times in the last 6 months.
Well Aussies (and Kiwis) the date for the naming of teams has come and gone and we seem to be no closer to a clear idea of who's going. It is hard from this distance to get all the required time and money. My logistics have yet to come together but if those planets align I'm there. How is everyone else traveling?

**Update**
This post relates to the allocation for Australians within the world championship competition.
Space for 4 teams (12 players) was allocated to Australia by the organisers of the World Championships.
At this stage, 9 Australians have recorded an expression of interest in playing.
(This includes some travellers who have been a significant part of polo in Melbourne and Sydney in 2009/2010)
Tali + 2 (Melbourne)
Maija, Lewis & TBD (Sydney)
Neil, Steve & Dan (Adelaide)
Damon, Ray & Anthony (Melbourne)
As the deadline of April 30 has now passed, these places have been confirmed.
Australians who have reserved a place but will not be travelling to Berlin should relinguish their place.
Any relinguished places will remain open on a first come first served basis.
The organisers of the worlds may reallocate or absorb any relinguished spaces to other countries between May - August.

Thanks for the update Damon. Seems any latecomers will be stuck in a team with me. Fair punishment I guess. If everyone could use this as a forum for travel tips etc that would be good.
I've found that Air asia Flights are the cheapest to London (around $1400 depending on dates) then Easy jet to Berlin (25 pounds last time I checked). Pre-pay $30 bucks more per flight for "sports equipment" levy to get your bike on board. London have plenty of scratch games in the week leading up to the tourney plus munich has a pre worlds week of games if yr flights get into germany there. Here's hoping we all get there. Cheers all.
T
woah! $1400! i'm in!
Tali, mark me down as +1 on your team if you have any spots left :D
P.S. don't book with EasyJet, they will charge you heaps for excess baggage. Try one of the proper carriers like Lufthansa who may allow your bike on for free and only charge £10 more for the flight
Woop wooop!
Looks like team Sydney may be Maija, Lewis and Steve! Steve played with team Panther at '09 Nats.
See you fuckers this weekend!

awesome, awesome, awesome! see ya here Lewis, hopefully it doesn't rain this time :D
Hey there "possible Berliners" Check out www.airasia.com for those $1400-1500 (i found one for 1340 but then you've gotta add taxes, sports equipment fee etc etc.)
Also if land travel is more your thing than flight, once you get to london you could go by rail to berlin for 75 pounds: http://www.raileurope.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=101#divBasketTotalLink
Here's hoping all our logistics come together.

Guys check this shit out - AirAsiaX are going on sale today! Cheap flights!!

Rail would take between 9 to 11 hours.. I thought it would be longer
Is anyone interested in staying in London for the tournament on Aug 21st?
Worlds Aug 13-15, explore Berlin and Germany a little for 4 days
Fly back to London 19th or 20th, compete in the London polo tourney Aug 21st
Fly back to Melbourne 22nd or 23rd
There's lots to see in London if you haven't been before! I'll be happy to show you around my former hometown :)
What do you reckon?
Could everyone post team line-up (as it stands) and team names (ditto) so we can get some vibe on how everyone is going?
We "Polocalypse Now" (Virgina, Rob M and myself) are all peachy 100% going so hooray to that!
How's everyone else out there?
Peeps planning on getting to berlin on the 11th? I'm gonna try to find some polo on the tuesday night (10th) in london. then fly early on the 11th
there is also the road-trip style rail option (details above) that would take all day but be fun times.. anyone keen?

Hey guys,
Let us know what dates you will be in London and the polo community should be able to sort you out with accomodation. Also make sure you register for the London Open if you will still be around on the 21st August. http://www.lhbpa.org/londonopen/

Hi Andy, thanks for the offer there'll be several people keen to go to that tourney who may need accom. (I'm sorted)
Could you keep us posted as to the where and when in the week leading up to the worlds? I'm keen to play on the night of the 11th of august somewhere in London... any pick-up happening? (i know this is a long way off)
Cheers again for the kind offer.
T
T
I'm keen, but not quite sure where I'll be around. Will definitely drop past for a game of pickup if I can.
None of this is set in stone, except for the flights in and out of London and being in Berlin for the worlds, but the current plan is to fly into London on the 2nd, spend a day or two there before training down to Amsterdam where I'll spend another day or two and then jump on the bike and head to Berlin, arriving by the 11th. Stay in Berlin until the 18th, and then make my way back up to London to watch the london open. Then I've got about a week before I fly out of London on the 28th. Thinking about heading north and doing some riding through Scotland... All on the polo bike. Should be interesting.
JOL!!!!!!!
