thank you virginia woolf, mike singletary, and john randle
thank you menace, zachstar, paul, gms, players, spectators, and regulators
the winning gm is asleep with the menace cup right now
and so begin the stories and tales of where, what, who, why, and when the menace cup has undergone . . . .
the nets were the unsung hero, and are the future
bribri, i have some good news and some bad news: the bad news is that the future-nets will be narrower than these huge ones, the good news is you'll be starting my jeep from now on
the ref didn't need to be on the court, let alone that silly bike he kept using to get in the way and change the course of a play. he probably also should know the rules, let alone something about bike polo. nonetheless a job well done under many different tough conditions, only one of which was being the first of a kind.

Bench Minor recap
fixcraft.net
this whole weekend has been beautiful. thank you, new york. it was great to meet so many slayers, this was some of the toughest polo i've ever played. let's keep this format alive and refine it a little bit, it's fucking classic.
and pray to god you don't let the peacocks defend the cup next year.
Amazing tournament, thanks to everybody. Thanks Paul and fourth green (don't remember more than 9 names:( ) for the wheels set. Thanks to zach and adam for picking me up and let me play. Thanks for all teamates, and everybody else.
Ref's made good job, but yes, even if it's style, bmx is useless. Just rollers can do the work well. I think that be in the court is a good idea for have direct view and quick talking. With rollers, you can also grab the wall and climb when players coming on you...
The bench minor style gonna become a classic i think. Maybe just to have team whit a lil' more less players, like 9 for example.
my only regret is not fighting. other than that, thanks everyone for trying a new format, for travelling long distances, for playing some amazing polo, and for being an awesome community.
capriotti wouldn't let me on the court to fight you
i'm sure he regrets it too
fixcraft.net
your better off this way, i mean, you and me, that would be fair, but paul v you? not a chance. but i did encourage it on our end.
to be fair though we gave you more then enough cause to clear you bench. i said shit, i creamed your best payer into the boards in a way that wasnt necessary, i called you all pieces of shit, and i asked real nice if you wanted to go, so its all fun and games to talk about how we should have fought, but remember, you were asked to dance and you declined, dont complain now that you didnt get knocked up at prom.
great weekend and a wonderful opportunity to learn new things about the game and various playing styles. would love to see this format go on and I'd like to see how much of these original rules stick. some oughta go, but keep scoop goals for sure!
hope to see you folks in NYC again soon. the door's always open

Scoop goals?? What?? Pretty sure no one on the west coast considers a scoop a shot. If they did you would see balls flying in from half court all night long.
I'm reading a lot of positive response to the format. It makes me wonder if 2010, 2011 will see more events like this. Will the 3-person many-team double elimination give way to something that looks more like professional sports?
So many great things about this tourney. The best spectator polo event i have seen yet. It was like the finals of a big tourney with everyone going as hard as they can for their shift. Changed the dynamic quite a bit and the jerseys made it easier to follow. I'm not sure how i feel about the scoop shot, it didn't play a huge factor in this tournament but it really could be a big change in the sport at the same time it makes being a fulltime goalie less effective.
I'm sold on the goals, took away so much controversy and helped keep the game moving forward. No one ran into them and they came apart even if someone did.
HUGE SUCCESS! Semi finals yellow vs blakc was an amazing game. Too bad we couldn't get it into ot. Doug and nick killed it that game. Such a fun weeekensd though. Deny the madden cover because kremin killeds it. Pray to god none of u ever get stuck in a 2 on 1 with me and him. The team aspect of 10 players added so much fun and intensity to the event I cannot wait till the next one. Fuck refs though. Self policed polo is the best. Especially when the ref knows as much about bike polo as the people who bring the birds to the pit to show the off. Thank you New York City. most importantly thank u gold bond teamates and buds
Did any of the penalties get used at all?
How long were people's shifts, on average? Did GM's rotate whole lines, or one or two players at a time?
Someone took video of this, right?
Wanna buy some polo stuff?

great weekend. everything about this tourney was dope except my shot. couldn't ask for a more perfect weekend. soo much fun playing with and watching that many slayers on the court at once.
but, this tourney confirmed that there is no need to continue to have refs on the court... never really needed in past tourneys and the ref at this tourney expecially sucked. at least get someone reffign who understands the game and is excited about it enough to be attentive for 16 hrs and make consistent calls. constantly in the way of play and making terrible calls and missing the most blatant busch league.

^ Hey Joe. I hear you big time on some shots that were not dope, at least everybody on our team got on the score sheet at least once. One of the highlights for me was when you blew your back tire out and came off steaming then slammed your bike on the ground turning my poor mallet to, as Doug called it "toast". At that point we were 8 goals down in the final and Doug was telling you to calm down. We could all feel your frustration. Great experience and I have to say it the best team won without any question.
tobi, ididn't even know i toasted your mallet. that was an asshole move and i am sorry. there was no reason for me to react that way but that was my third tire blown that weekend and it sucks when it happens when your team is loosing in the final game. (so i guess that is my excuse) i need to work on not freaking out like that.

So how was it not being able to ride though the nets?...
I really like the idea of nets .. no more guessing if it went in or not ..
I know I have saved many potential goals by poking the ball from behind the net ... won't be able to do that anymore ... sigh ..
anyone know the dimensions of the goals?
could someone please post the results BY TEAM COLOR?
- i have no idea what the team names were. ..and i didnt get to see the end.
so good to see you all!
1st place Green (Alexis)
2nd place Black (Jav)
3rd place-tied Gold and Grey (Lefty Joe and Ben Hunter)
good to see you around Quinn, good luck getting polo started upstate.

Big thanks: Adam, for pursuing your vision. You did indeed conceive of a classic. Zachstar, for sticking to your guns on the rules and making some damn fine goals and a trophy worthy of Frank Gehry. Benny, for dealing with the toughest job in sports - being a ref. With no precedent you kept your cool and did the job. Bravo. Birdseyeusuk - performing the other most taxing job of time-keep, stat-keep, and keep-off-the-court. Glad you got some games in there at the end. Lastly, Paul a.k.a The Commish, for TONS of hard work - the goals, the jerseys, putting me up three nights straight and of course organizing the first ever Hardcourt draft.
Not chiming in on the format here. Made a new "Lessons from Bench Minor" thread. Join me for critiques over there.
Green wins, black second... don't know the other results.
Im gonna make a lil' clip about this tournament, but you gonna have to wait at least one big week, cause im staying in nyc few days before leaving to geneva where i can make a montage.
Neted goals is absolutely necessary from now i think. I played in karlsruhe with it, in geneva too, that's much more clear for the game. The jerseys is a great thing too.

I had a blast watching the games! As usual I have lots of new tricks & techniques I'm itching to try out on the court.
Thanks to Katie for being an incredibly gracious host, Sara for taking good care of us (thanks mom), Paul for taking the time to hook up housing for two who weren't even playing in the tourney.
Nice to meet you Ben Schicago, Robbie, Ben & Jonny Hunter, Chris Simpson, Tucker, etc.

I wish could list every single good thing that happened that weekend but, it's better left for later.
Tournament was top shelf. Thanks to everyone in NYCBP who gave and extending arm to a fellow bud.
Team Yellow is the New Madden Cover. kakakakakakaka

Bruisers are stronger than Jousts regardless of who hit who when.
Laguardia is a flu infested shit hole.

thanks, birdseye!
i wish every tournament were so well documented.
according to your scorecards you didnt count my goal against grey in game 8! BIRDSEYEUSUK!!!!!
Thanks to Adam, Zach, Paul and the rest of NYC for putting on an awesome tournament. Truly innovative and will hopefully set a precedent for tournaments to come.
Don't feed the Peecaacks, get em drunk! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Surplus style, marginal class. Good job guys.
Reds, sometimes having fun in polo, means getting dead fucking last. It was still a good fight, and I would do it again in a second.
3 jousts in the finals, Jon Atwell was slaying on one of them.

A great concept for a tournament which saw the ranks shake a little among some of the world's better players. The Black Team played like chessmen and The Greens...well, like birds I guess!
Thanks for a great tournament everyone, and for the cycling circus crew riding over the Manhattan bridge to Alibi on Sunday night.
Would like to see more women play (please!) and maybe even a mini Bench Minor as part of Ladies Army II...
Great seeing you all again :)
