Save the date: 1st Midwest Open in Lexington Nov. 13-14, 2010

Sorry it has taken us so long to post about this, and I know a lot of people have been wondering about this since the Midwests in Como last year.

Lexington is planning on hosting the 1st Midwest Open tournament this November during the weekend of the 13th & 14th. By "Open", we mean that it will be open to cities not exactly in the Midwest, and that it will be a big, fun 2-day tournament hosted by a city in the Midwest Region (home of the very best polo in the world, of course). It is our hope that this can become another Midwest tradition that other Midwest cities will be up for passing along, much like the Midwest Champeenships, but perhaps more laid-back.

Despite it being an open tournament, we will likely have to cap the registration somewhere around 40 teams, due to the limitations of our court setup.

Stay tuned for more info, and we'll let everyone know in advance when registration will be opened up. We are going to try to set up a registration site, with payment options, and we'll let you know when that is up and running. Thanks for your patience.

Boom! Was just about to email you.

Minneapolis will be there. Already talking about it.

so we'll be playing only on your two regular courts?

We're working with the idea of a third court, which I think will have to happen in order for us to make this work well. It will either be the Border Patrol pads, or the wooden walls used in Madison (Tiff said she talked to Jonny about the possibility of having them travel to Lex for use). There's a freshly paved parking lot in the park that is big enough and flat enough for a 3rd court. That's about all we can swing and still keep everything together in a close location, which would be ideal. You guys had 2 tournament courts and a 3rd for pick-up, with 40+ teams, correct?

The only other court option we have (fully walled roller hockey court) is several miles away and is not very bikable to get to. This could possibly be a 2nd location strictly used for pick-up if people want to shuttle out there... but I doubt they will want to travel that far from the courts.

yeah, we only had two tourney courts... 45 teams. worked out, but we played till sundown and beyond. do you have lights at your courts?

are those the same boards that traveled from ESPI V?

edit: or was it Midwests in MPLS... i'm getting my traveling boards confused.

I was in Lexington last weekend and saw the newly paved parking lot- it's really nice. With boards it might even be nicer than the regular courts (with their 'sticky cracks' and whatnot). Either way Lexington has a great club and Brian is a great organizer. Can't wait!!!

Yes.

bourbon or polo? hmmm
See you at Woodford Reserve.

DC's midwest, right?

Del Boca Vista Polo

DC's about as midwest as Pittsburgh, but you can bet we'll be there.

i'm very excited to finally have a solid reason to come to lexington!

That's why we kinda felt the need for a Midwest Open, instead of two "Champeenships". Everyone from all over NA wants to come to the Midwest tournaments anyways, so why not have an Open tourney?

The Midwest Champeenships has always been open to all, but next year it will probably be a region only tournament. I'm super excited for this! I'm just sad the cardinal won't be in attendance.

Midwest is best!!

if chris isn't there there's no way i will consider coming to this.

Chris'll be there, I'm playing with him AGAIN (boring)

Pro-friendly bike polo!

i meant the cardinal. although como chris is also awesome

Haha- "the cardinal"... now i know why he won't take that cap off!

just talking about teams for this today

tell us your thoughts.

Austin will be there for sure! count it!

Ann Arbor will be sending one team for sure, maybe two.

How can we say no to bourbon and polo?

Keep your standards low, and morale high.

So, when and where is the 9th Midwest Bike Polo Champeenship being held this year?

- Beaver Boys * Milwaukee Bike Polo Club -

Joe- in acccordance with new NAHBPC policies moving into 2011 the fall version of the MWBPC will now move toward an "open" classification. the springtime one will be a qualifier for NA's or world's.
so to answer your question the 9th's will be bid for in the next month or so. check back soon for more info

Ill be there if I can get nick redbeard and the-peecocque

We'll all send your ass back to Europe if you show up to play without taking part in any of the organizing of this thing!

This should be posted up officially tonight. Sorry for the delay, folks. We have been working a lot on this, and still have a long way to go. Here's the skinny, though:
Registration will be opening on October 1st and will close on Nov. 1st. We're capping it at, I think 46 teams. Three courts. 2-day tournament. Saturday swiss rounds, Sunday double elim. with a smaller bracket field... much like the Midwests in COMO played out.

Definitely tryin to make this.
