let me call hockeytown.
boston winter 2012 event rumor/discussion
Given the success of the Boston Winter Lock-in In. We have been thinking about some different options if we are to host an event this coming winter 2012.
THE FIRST IS A COMMON SENSE BENCH SYTLE TOURNEMENT MEANT TO PROMOTE AND SHOW THE BEST TALENT AND TEAMS THE REGIONS/CLUBS/CITIES HAVE TO OFFER AND TO DECIDE WHICH REGION/CLUB/CITY ROLLS THE DEEPEST.
( WE ARE STILL UNDECICED ABOUT HOW WE WILL BREAK UP THE 7 TEAMS IN TERMS OF LOCATION ETC – OUR REGIONS WILL NOT BE THE SAME AS NAH)
NO BULLSHIT, NO BITCHING
THERE IS NO DRAFT. MANAGERS DECIDE ON THEIR BEST 6. END OF ARGUMENT.
The Idea:
7 managers, 1 from each region/club/city + 6 players
7 teams
7 players
7 regions/cities
The Format:
Bench style tournament, any 3 players from the 7 can play and switch out when needed.
7 team round robin 2-day event at Hockey-Town USA (Saugus MA)
2 x 20 min periods
NO TIME OUTS (UNLESS ITS SERIOUS)
NO REF (WE ARE ALL ADULTS WE CAN SELF REGULATE) AND WE USE HOCKEY NETS
ALL POLO
We could potentially keep all the 7 regions on or around the east coast and change the regions to cities/clubs or even group a few together. That way 2 carloads of people could bring all 7 players and bikes and reduce cost for travel etc. Teams would have to organize their own accommodation. Those of you that have played at Hockey-Town know that there are several inexpensive options.
We are open to ideas and input for this. It was thought up and written on a king size rolling paper so that’s all we have right now.
The second option is to throw another open to all tournament, like we did in January, which was fucking awesome fun and attracted the worlds best players.
There was talk of 6 regions/cities/clubs bringing 8 players then drawing at random lottery 1 player from each team to make up the SUPER 7?? then we have 7 teams of 7.
i like this idea. A LOT. i also think with that many teams and 2 courts/2 days we can schedule in pickup games in between.

It is a nice idea, that fits with the Lucky/Super 7 idea. If teams are willing to travel in the knowledge that they could potentially loose their best/worst player to a team of randomly drawn players that may not be so appealing. The original idea was to see which city has the best 2 lines with a spare.
Lets see what other people have to say.
Hockey Town can lock us in for both courts for full days with no interruption, any weekend in early 2012. They are happy to welcome Bike Polo again.
Team Ontario will destroy.
and we are chopped liver?
Keep your standards low, and morale high.
we're still working out the format, so if anyone has any bright ideas for making this awesome, speak up!
we are also compiling a list of potential GM's, so let us know if you are interested!
What's about having a Euro team ?

the euro idea is good...tony I think you just started your own little worlds here...also does this mean I have to stay in Boston till March?

still a rumor for early March??
Any news? Do I have to be the best in my region to play? I wanna know. I wanna play!
RUMOR: this is gonna be an X number of players per team classic in late March. High concept indoor bike polo.
Someone confirm this rumor. At least the March part of it. That would be music to my ears.
not looking good on this. we can't get both courts on sundays after mid-february..
we might just end up hosting a one day pick up/ grudge match thing if enough people are interested..
still hoping for regional "new format" tournament. what about one court both days? chicago bench minor pulled it off.
Putting this out there, after gaining support from my fellow NYC club members:
1. we're excited to come to boston and play, no matter what you end up doing.
2. NYC is highly inclined to show up as a club and play together as a club. we'll take on other clubs, or frankenstein'd teams, but we are very into the idea of playing together.
3. don't forget your skates and sticks.
well if NYC and another city or two are interested in a one day "new format" tourney it would be well worth it and not too expensive on a per player basis ...
we are. NYC wants to come as a unit and play against anyone who wants to go. Boston, we love playing against you and we want more. let's make it happen.
any other clubs, get it together and let's get it done. many thanks to boston for stepping up and providing this opportunity for all of us. let's not squander it.
Man screw you guys I'm going to cascadia.

sounds cool, i would be into this being a city vs city tournament.
clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
Ok Rob. Would philly be down to bring at least 7 players to a 1 day tournament in late march?
Same goes for RVA, DC, NYC, (OTT/TOR/MONT),
yes, depending everyones availability on the specific date of course.
clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
How about a little further south so some SE teams can come?
Can you win me another MVP award?! ;)
