Via Zach on the BM thread:
Bloomington is planning a midwestern state vs. state bench minor event for early 2012. IN vs. MI vs. OH vs. KY, hopefully MO and IL, and WI and MN if they're interested and willing to make the drive. It started with a little IN/MI rivalry that has snowballed into what we hope will be a pretty awesome event. Plus we're using the location and oversized A court from MW9!
yes lets talk about this more. sounds like a lot of fun. What month we looking at? Michigan should have a team together for this.
Keep your standards low, and morale high.
ATX is bidding on the SC regional.
march/april 2012
we have an internal discussion happening in our region to entertain bids and when this needs to be done by.
There are whispers of a Halloween bench minor format tourney in Chicago.
tampa is talking about southeasts, three 60x133ft courts with lights till 11.
dang it, that's 14hrs from Memphis. this region is huge!
Will this include breakfast?
SF is hosting an amazing tournament in November next year that is being discussed behind 4 foot boards until decisions have been made
"So this is how it ends"MACHINE
First you throw the BWB tourney early, now late next year? wth man!

YO Phoenix bike polo, what's up with DPI 2012. I'm trying to make it this time and fights aren't getting any cheaper.
Marco, fights are never cheap. Someone always ends up paying the price.
Though I no longer live in PHX, I'm told that DPI IV is tentatively scheduled for early February. But you will need to ask the AZ polo hierarchy about that to be sure.
EDIT: Hoping to move back to Phoenix soon, preferably before DPI.

Not Yet....Not Yet.
cross-posted from the old rumours thread because the year was wrong. duh.
"Rumour has it NYC is hosting the ESPI this year, and _early_ in the season (March, April). Rumour has it further that the ESPI name is going to be meaningful this time around, so heads up East Side clubs, be on the lookout for your invite. A small bird told me it will _not_ be an open-registration event."
so this means there would have to be a seperate east region qualifier, correct?
within the framework of the old 3v3 format? the short answer is "i don't care."
the old format can use whatever half-brained scheme it wants for what it calls 'qualifiers', and call it whatever it wants, but i'm taking back the ESPI name. we're doing something better with it.
sounds interesting.
you're hurtful and rude.
have fun eastside.
someone out there remember that a regional will still need to be organized if any teams from that region [that do not travel to other qualifiers] would like to participate in the NAHBPC.
"you're hurtful and rude."
yeah he is!!
hey don't get chirpy at me because i called you and your committee out on having shitty ideas. the worst is that your efforts to fix the obvious problems from last year are a tiger with no teeth... what's the point of acknowledging that things are broken if your attempts to fix them are completely half-assed? if you make such minor changes to a majorly broken system and hope for a significantly better result, you're exhibiting psychotic behaviour. keep doing what you're doing and you'll keep getting what you've got; and what you've got is in desperate need of repair.
as for the ESPI, it's insulting to apply this well-known name to an event that doesn't deserve it. in case you've forgotten, the acronym stands for Eastside Polo Invitational. if you think it's acceptable to apply this name to a transregional open, you're nuts. we're taking the name back and applying it to an event worthy of it (not to mention semantically correct).
please do not assume that we did not consider or are not considering significant changes to the system in place.
it has been reiterated a number of times that ALL angles/aspects/reactions etc have and are being considered. that is, in plain language, we are not half-assing anything and it is ignorant and presumptuous for you to assume so, in fact it makes you the "ass" in this.
there is a limitation of time in all of this, and we did the best we could, with what we had, with what was agreed upon by reps, and proposed that to the board to use for this year only. we are in no way saying this is how it will remain.
if you have something constructive to contribute to the solution to this "majorly broken system" then i welcome, and will always welcome, an email from you to illustrate how you feel it would best be solved.
literally this is a waste of my time and i shouldn't even be replying but thought i would at least defend the committees time and efforts put forth for this coming season.
again, to that region, a qualifier will be needed in order to participate in the NAHBPC 2012. if it's not linked to ESPI, then someone else in another city will need to step up.
please do not assume that we did not consider or are not considering significant changes to the system in place.

so after considering "ALL angles/aspects/reactions etc", you and your committee decided that the correct course of action was to implement a number of small changes that go nowhere toward solving the major problems. just because you say you considered better alternatives but did not implement them does not absolve you from the imprudent course you've taken. put simply, you are aware of the major problems in the system but actively do nothing to actually solve them.
if this is the result of having too little time and too many voices, then that is a failure of the organisation. to claim too few resources while implementing a non-solution to known problems is unacceptable. throwing it in there that it might be temporary does not help.
the real problem here is that you need a revolution in the way the game is organised, and NAH is unwilling to move forward with a redesign from the bottom up. your problems won't be solved by making small changes at high levels. i have already and continue to go a significant distance toward building and implementing a functional framework which solves the problems you and your committee are unwilling or unable to. at the heart of it, you have to be willing to give up the idea of 3-person teams and start defining teams based on local clubs. you have to abandon the idea that polo is an individual sport and embrace the idea that it's a team sport. NAH is clearly not willing to do that. as long as you're saddled with those restrictions, you have no hope of solving your problems. for a while i hoped that NAH could move in that direction, but i also knew that it might not, and if it didn't, a fork would be necessary. so here i am, executing a fork. ESPI is ours, not yours. this is not an NAH event. we are moving forward, with or without the NAH.
will you stubborn asses stop fucking bickering. holy shit. menace, i agree with a lot of what you say, as well as mostly with the idea of team polo, but you are equally as bad as the nah shitting the bed on improving their system. just speak nicely and people will listen. stop acting like you are fighting a revolution, its fucking bike polo. chandel, being in charge doesnt always mean micromanage the fuck out of everything, including somebody's opinion on the internet. polo can exist outside of nah, and that is ok. there can be tournaments that you are not at all involved with in any way, and you should not worry about it. if a tournament is not the north american championship, a qualifier for said championships and the worlds, then the nah does not need to be involved with it for 2012.
i'm not micromanaging. and i'm hardly in charge. bike polo is in charge, i just help organize the ideas and thoughts of the community so that it's logical and easily sifted through. NAH does not have to be involved with ESPI or every tournament out there, i'm merely reminding that region what will be needed. i am not married to NAH and i very much enjoy tournaments outside of the tour.
i am defensive because we did a lot of work, and still are, for a community of people, that BY AND LARGE doesn't accept the 'new format/menace ball' way of thinking about polo for the immediate future and that is what we have to work with.
i am frustrated by a very intelligent and outspoken individual that fights against instead of works with the community that gave him the same sport that he enjoys playing and is trying to improve, like many of us.
so. on that. i'm done replying directly about this in this thread. i have made my contact information widely available should any further discourse be needed.
you're hurtful and rude.
have fun eastside.
someone out there remember that a regional will still need to be organized if any teams from that region [that do not travel to other qualifiers] would like to participate in the NAHBPC.
Ignore the poop-flingers Chandel. I haven't seen this one suggest any viable alternate ideas or volunteer his time, funds or energy to anything CONSTRUCTIVE so I suggest lumping him into the troll folder. Some people love having a sandy vag.
you either can't read or refuse to. i've been busy for over a year building the framework to take this game from drunken shenanigans to a credible sport. do your fucking homework.
I will get right on that. Like all legitimate sports franchises, we will need to run charter flights for our team to our season games. Do you have any suggestions on who we should use to run our charter flights out of Austin so that we can complete our season? If possible, with a flight crew, ground transportation, and hot meals.
holy shit man you're RIGHT! I completely missed this. Great ideas and methods of execution there. No sand in your vag. nope- nary a grain. An inspiration to our entire organization is you. Can I buy you a beer?
got to jump in here.
first menace doesn't drink so you can buy me that beer.
im starting a new thread for this.
and listen up kids do your fucking homework on this one!
start talking about self-proclaimed titles and i'll hold your hand while we walk down memory lane.
as my great friend blokker says...

Italy is on fire !!
We have been thinking for a long time to host a huge tournament in Italy, precisely in Padova, a beautiful town in the heart of the Veneto region.
Right into the historical center of the city we have two spectacular side by side 40X20 meters polo courts, perfectly illuminated, with excellent boards and a great smooth surface.
What better place to do our first international event?
The idea is doing a two full days of polo festa with all Euro friends: saturday and suday. The area is available and playable all 48 hours, we just need to decide the format.
Flying is easy. The Venice Airport is approximately 20 minutes by polobike from the Venice train station from which you can reach the train to Padova in another 20 minute ride
If you want to enjoy the sightseeing and take your time, Padova is in the middle of the italian most visited region, not more than 1 hour from Venice and the lagoon, from the Dolomite Alps, Verona and Mantova with is Lakes and from Vicenza and Treviso with is Palladio's villas. You cannot ask for better good food, the best wine and last but not least the Italian sun !!!
What else do you need?
ah yes: the date! may, maybe saturday 26 and sunday 27 of may 2012, we fix the date early.
Stay tuned!
Ciao!!!

midwest state vs state bench minor is a go. the location is secured and parks dept is on board. april 7-8th at RCA park.
details, flyer, and dedicated thread will be posted soon. KY, MI, IL, MN, WI, MO, and IN are all on board- still waiting to hear back from Ohio.
Nice!
Would love to hear how teams are to be selected.
Seven teams...how make tourney with 7 teams? Maybe you need a west coast all stars team to round out #8? (Seriously though, if I were you I'd look for a way to create a last-minute throw together team 8.)
Keep me updated if such a team does form, I'd love to party WITH/play AGAINST all my former Midwest brethren
Pro-friendly bike polo!
Hey Zach. Not saying it is at all an option but what if Winnipeg wanted to field a team. You haven't invited us yet and we are stilll midwest. In fact I believe we brought 9 players to Bloomington last year. No reason to discount us.
Once we find some decent courts, Mobile should be hosting the 3rd annual Hickstonerdoomfest in the spring. Austin? Floridians? Georgia? We'll see you again, yes? Itd be great to see some more southeast teams too. Tennessee and North Carolina, I'm looking at you.
I'm gonna try to travel more this year, specially for things within 8 hours, and I know Adam'll be down. So yeah, see ya there!
-Brett
sounds good. we are bidding the SC regional for april 14-15 though, keep that in mind.
thanks!
Hickstonerdoomfest! I missed it last year, Im making sure to be there this year.

Toronto is going to host a Bench format tournament on easter weekend or the weekend after. That's April 7 or 14. Details are vague, but it will only be one court, maybe only a day and a half. One team from Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Kitchener/Waterloo, and maybe Michigan, and maybe a second Toronto team. Hopefully this will be one of several Northside city vs city weekends this year. If I've hurt someone's feelings by not mentioning their city (Burlington? Rochester? Almonte?) lemme know. But five or six teams is already pushing it, and people in the Northside seem into making this a city vs city thing.
I just remembered Michigan will be in Bloomington April 7 for the battle for the midwest thing. it's doubtful that they'll be able to make it up here even if it's a week later. But 5 teams is probably best anyway, we can play a full round robin in one day on one court with lights, then maybe have playoffs and 3v3 pickup the other day. Anyway, details soon.
Greif Masters 3
(Kind of) sad news:
The third edition of Greif Masters will NOT be an indoor tournament and will not happen this Winter.
After weeks of bullshit meetings with the people from the planned location and loads of talking and talking, it's really sad we'll not be able to host Greif Masters 3 at this amazing location. But we'll give it another try next Winter.
Anyways. Here's our new plan. We will host the GM3 as a 2 court outdoor tournament at some point this Summer.
We'll have a perfect brand new (bikepolo specific and specially built for us) Court and one other (also not bad) second court, camping and barbecue at the courts, etc... More details to follow later this year.
The good part about this. As Karlsruhe is very central in Europe, there hopefully will be a lot of international players around because of the Worlds…
That's it for now. All the best from Karlsruhe & see you guys soon!

yes, yes, yes..great news hannes....would love to play at the GM3....keep on working on that....
Rumor:
The destruction of our beloved Burlington, VT court is quite possibly tied up in political red tape for yet another summer, allowing for the potential of a 3rd "Last Stand" tournament. What started three years ago as a last ditch effort for fundraising & community awareness has now turned into what is potentially one of the funnest summer good times polo tournaments on the east coast... complete with lakeside location, swimming, BBQs and all around awesomeness.
Dates TBD. Open to feedback from the poloverse... Last year worked out pretty well because a lot of folks came down from Toronto. The only other summer east coast tourney on the schedule right now is Flour City in Rochester in August. Might make sense to go the week before or the week after so people can link up that road trip into two stops? Discuss...
Just make me aware, want to go so bad!

Does July 14-15 work for people? The city gave us three date options... one conflicts with EASTSIDE 2012 NAH Qualifier, June 2-3, Frederick, MD. and the other conflicts with NAHBPC 2012: July 6-8, MKE... so the July 14-15th date is really the only option for the BTV event...
