I don't think I will have a team going into this one. Anyone want to team up? I'll be getting in LATE Friday night, and will also need a place to crash Friday thru Sunday nights. I'll leave Monday.

hey i'm going to be in charge of food. if you could post on here what city you're from and how many players you're bringing, that would be stellar!

dc should be arriving somewhere around 10pm on friday. is there really going to be pick-up til midnight?

Should be comin in around 5 or 6, planning on heading straight to the court for some pickup.

Columbus is trying to figure out when to get there. When do you expect to start playing on Saturday and when will the tournament start on Sunday? I think we'll have 3 teams.

I had to back out at the last minute for BS reasons. Anchovy from St Louis has 4 St Cago heads for sale that I found going through boxes in my basement.

Don't let the St Louis crew leave Lex without at least a case of Ale-8 in bottles.

Thanks a ton all you great polo peeps who came out for a full weekend of polo. We hope you felt welcomed, and had a good time in our little city. Congrats on another Como win and some top-notch polo playing by Columbus, STL, DC... So many others. Midwest is the BEST!

I can't speak too much to this because I wasn't aware of the twist until right before it was announced. Basically what happened was, when we got down to the final 8 teams, at that point before the joust of those games each team had to trade a player with the other team. That mixed team kept the team name, but advanced on with that lineup, trading another player each round until the end.

I had suspected that it might cause a bit of an uproar when it was announced, but everyone seemed to be into it. After all, we had just finished up nearly two full days of super-fun pickup games that went on well past midnight each day, and everyone got to spend a good deal of time playing with people from other cities and having a great time. This whole thing was less of a serious tournament and more of a big polo party. It's only natural for there to be a serious and competitive nature that surrounds most polo events, and understandable to be disappointed if you get separated from your teammates during the games. Our main philosophy here in Lex is that we love playing, and we have fun, and we want others to have fun as well. I think sometimes the traditional model of a polo event should be mixed up a bit to make things more interesting.

I can say for certain that our intentions weren't to piss anyone off or to throw a wrench into anyone's plan of taking home the prize. We simply wanted everyone to have fun and play a lot of polo. It's not like we would do something like this if we were hosting a major tournament where the stakes were more serious... so hopefully no one gets the impression that Lexington is some rogue, no-rules place to play... we just like to mix it up from time to time.

Also, in Chris's event page up at the top of this thread, it even says to expect a few twists and mentions that fact that you may have to trade a player or two...

I don't think it was a bad idea to throw something like this in but i think it should have been thought out better. When it was announced they didn't have all the details worked out ahead of time. Do you switch players for the game then get your player back after the round is over? Do you trade the first round only? It was quite possible to end up with a team that had no players from the beginning line up. I think there was just a lot of contention because when it was announced it felt like there was a lot of gray area.

Hey LEX, thanks for hosting. As a newby I had never seen more than 8 players in one place. You all made the old man feel at home and were gracious in letting me play with the big boys (and girls). Good times! JB from Columbus
