A one day extravaganza of female polo talent brought to you by the women of East Van and the ladies of Cascadia.
Grandview Park Vancouver, BC
(intersection of Charles St. and Commercial Drive)
Registration is at 10:00 am.
We hit the courts at 11:00am.
No 'polo time'.
OFFICIAL RULES OF THE LADIES ARMY PRESENTS...
1. Shoot with the business end of your mallet - that's the round "end" folks - or else its a "shuffle".
2. Ball joint – pass to another player off a ball joint before your team can score.
3. If your foot hits the ground its called a "dab" and you need to tap out on either side of centre court to engage in play again. Two sided (something loud, high hats)
4. When your team scores, head back to your end and wait for the other team’s first player to cross half before engaging them in play again.
5. Three contact rules that are acceptable:
Bike on Bike
Body on Body
Mallet on Mallet
We don't appreciate contact combinations (i.e. mallet on bike) and you will be called out!! Also, even though bike on bike contact is okay, there are no t-bones! Mallet on mallet is okay but no wind up hacks! Person on person is good but no punches to the face!
6. One etiquette rule:
Play others as they play you (i.e. if a player isn't roughing you up, don't take them out).
7. Passes to your own teammate through the offensive goal can not be scored immediately. The ball must be passed first.
8. All bar ends and mallets must be plugged.
9. No own goals.
10. No mallet throwing.
11. We seriously encourage the use of a helmet.
12. Goals are at cone height.

this sounds great. not sure i'll be able to make it, though. boo. i'm spending a week or so west for NAs and don't think i can afford the time or dollars to make another trip so soon afterwards. maybe we can do an east coast re-enactment?

Little update for the ladies:
As part of polo weekend in Vancouver, we have arranged for a discount on polo related bike parts for the weekend. Look for discounts on itmes such as tires, tubes, chains and cables!! Special thanks to our dear friends at Bikes on the Drive.

any developments? are there going to be prizes? and would they be girly-friendly? (idk what that could mean, but i'm curious and would love to help with any and all ideas). are we coming up with our own teams or making them at the tournement?

I am still not 100% on own teams or not even though the feeling around here is teams, but I want to make this as inclusive as possible, so let's hear how people feel about this. I know some people have formed teams and some people singularly traveling from afar might not know enough people to form a team...
I am still open to suggestions.
Sponsorships for travel is a hard to do thing at this point (i.e. would need more time), but I am only sending out the sponsorship package this weekend (after I develop it that is!!).

hey lil miss... i was thinking we should do teams. since we are planning on hosting this tourney every year, it'll be something the girls will look forward to and plan their teams for. and it makes it more like other "serious" tourneys.

As far as coming with teams or making them when we get there, I'm cool either way! I'm definitely coming alone, but if it gets called as a team thing, let's call this my first offer to be your teammate! I've been playing 2 summers, twice a week recently. I'm totally in it and competitive with all the guys I regularly play with, but no clue how I compare to all you other killer polo ladies.
Can't wait to play some awesome polo and meet everyone!

Hello Ladies, so I have been asking women what they think of teams versus a throw in tournament, but it appears that many of you have already formed teams, so let's keep with that and if you need a team, we'll be more than happy to hook you up!
I'll post some more details after our planning meeting for who to contact if you need a team, a place to stay, etc.

i hope this is the start of more ladies only tourneys! i am unable to make this (no time to plan!), but hope to represent at future events! Some tournament updates:
Cost: $10 per person for the women's touranment. If you are playing in both the ladies tournie and the East Van Crown (which you all should! What other city out there offers two tournaments in one weekend??!), the cost will be $15 for both.
Registration fee includes registration package (for each tournament), Friday night party, free prize raffel and we are working on food. Will keep you posted!
Accommodation: Again, get in touch with Polly for housing. We've got beds, floors with sleeping pads, tents in backyards all ready and waiting for you! No one need pay for shelter!

After some peer pressure from the lovely East Van contingent that's in NYC this week, and considering my complete lack of self-control, and also in light of the crazy airline deals right now, I bought a ticket to come to this.
I'm arriving in Seattle on Thursday night.
One problem, I need a team! I did my darndest to get some other East Coast ladies out there, but no one can make it. Are there any solo ladies who want to team up? Or a duo looking for a third?

jen of the mallets of mayhem taught us all different things. but we all learned that she is The Bat. sonar got her through a 4-2 comeback in the first finals game. soon after it was silly not to be on the night court, but either way it was a great tournament.
