WHBPC 2011 presented by BROOKS

Thursday, September 8, 2011 - Sunday, September 11, 2011
Host club:
Contact info:

We are cooking up a great tournament here in Seattle. Please mark your calendars and take three weeks off so you can make it a tour of the West Coast polo scene.

There will be plenty of pickup, polo, rides, sight seeing and fun having to justify coming into town as a spectator.

Please forward all of your inquiries to Kiersten (polo@krispy.us), Blazar (aaron.grant00@gmail.com) or Mike (mon.mcguire@gmail.com).

Thank you, have a cosmic day!

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

Uh. No Machine. You're gonna have to work a bit harder than all that. We're going to have a separate qualifier from the rest of it all just for you. It's going to involve an obstacle course where each obstacle is Forrest or Forrest's bike.

Or, just bring enough Snake Bite for everyone.

Bethink thee of the albatross, whence come those clouds of spiritual wonderment and pale DREAD, in which that white phantom sails in all imaginations... ~Herman MFing Melville

Enough snakebite for everyone it is then plus hugs for Forrest a lend of my bike anytime.

dear organisers!

would there be any change in the dates, will you post it in this thread?

The Bisons;

any changes in the dates will be posted up asap

Worlds 2012 @ Burning Man

2007 - King of The Juice

Dates have been confirmed! September 8-11th!

Come in early, stay the weekend after at the East Van Crown!!

Boogertown USA!

I wanna go to Boogertown!!!

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Any idea on what day the wildcard tournament would be on? Thursday?

Or I guess a better question would be will there be a wildcard tourney?

Looking at buying a plane ticket soon and would like know.

x2. there are those of us who can't make it to calgary who want a shot at worlds. please don't leave us hangin!

My team can't get to EHBPC Barcelona (we get a slot, but can't because of the dates), and we have to know ASAP if we can go to the Wildcard, and maybe how the registration systeme gonna work (first come first serve, based on old results etc..)

Same goes for me. I qualified for Calgary but can't get there.

Consider this an open call to anyone who thinks we might make good teammates. Looking for a team for the Worlds Wildcard tourney.

Same boat -- qualified for Calgary but won't be making it there. Hoping to play the wildcard in Seattle. I'd definitely be willing to fly in on Wednesday if y'all were thinking of a two-day wildcard tourney.

It looks like there will be at least a few Australian teams looking to enter the Wildcard tourney.
We would love to see entry for the Wildcard tourney split, so that different regions (NA, Europe, Asia, Australia) have access to spots in the tournament if they havent already qualified. With the idea being that the spots are held for a short period of time (say a week?) after rego opens. After the week is up all unfilled spots could be opened up to teams regardless of their global region.

We're going to have a full week of wild card tournaments!

Dang, sounds like everyone in the world needs a spot on a wild card tourney. There will be one, it will likely be one day, single elimination at one of our pick up spots (full boards). I think it will probably run on past tournament results, but we're still working on it.

We'll update you as soon as the details are finalised.

Buy your tickets anyway, you know you want to come....

Don't worry guys, Just like Blazar said, there WILL be a Wild Card. Its just a matter of how many teams it will support.

Also, we understand that many of you have to buy tickets now to get the best prices, so we are hurrying as fast as possible to get this ironed out. Plus, we also want the Wild Card to be diverse, fun, and not just full of North Americans. So we are trying to make it big, and well organized in its own right.

Its gonna be epic, just be patient, and like Aaron said... Buy your tickets anyway, you know you want to come!

Just wanted to through this out there, the wild card tourney might be 2 days. So if you do buy your tickets for this be sure to be in Seattle on Wednesday. If the wild card tournament is as big as we think it will be we might need 2 days to really determine the top teams.

Bummer, already bought my ticket and I don't get in until the afternoon on Weds.

me too dude. cant afford the extra 100 bucks to change flight .

Deaddog- sacbikepolo

Hey I don't know airlines, but virgin let me change my flight for $38! Not bad. I won't hurt to check into it.

Deaddog- sacbikepolo

BAM! That's how serious it's gonna be.

Wait...if it were a two-day wildcard, would it be Thursday/Friday, or Wednesday/Thursday?

Just to be sure:
A team who qualify for qualifiers Euro champs, but can't goes because of dates issues, who play since 2 years at a good level, can be sure to be in the Wildcard tourney or not?

I know that's a kind of repost, but we have to be nearly sure to be in...

Can't wait.

Clem, Europa has 16 spots, I doubt there will be 16 teams ready to go to Seattle.
You guys have one of those spots, dont worry

Zaragoza Bike Polo 2015
Berlin Bike Polo 2010 - 2015
London Bike Polo 2008 - 2010

Well, sounds obviously awesome to me but how can you be so sure, did you get that from the ehbpc talks? How determine wich team can use an unused spot?

what talks?? who are the ehbpc? do you want the spot or not? are you European and ready to travel? do you want the spot at all?

Zaragoza Bike Polo 2015
Berlin Bike Polo 2010 - 2015
London Bike Polo 2008 - 2010

I was just waiting to know if there's at least a wildcard to book my flight Rik!

I doubt there are 16 teams from Europa ready to go, if you want to go, book your flight.... pronto!!

Happen in Berlin last year, people making the effort to travel from USA or Australiasia had spots, no question asked, and even with that they didnt full fill all the spots reserve for them, at the end that spots were given to European teams on the wildcard tourney

plus read post 16 and 17 on this thread.

Zaragoza Bike Polo 2015
Berlin Bike Polo 2010 - 2015
London Bike Polo 2008 - 2010

I have a proposal.
We could ask the top 32 teams of the Euros, who (and I mean individuals) would/will go to Seattle, if they are not complete teams we could from teams of the individuals. I know its not like the best teams from Europe, but at least the best players from Europe.
What do you guys think?

The Bisons;

dont ask, do it.

how many individuals do you think are ready to drop €800 (or more)???

48 people???? I dont think so

Zaragoza Bike Polo 2015
Berlin Bike Polo 2010 - 2015
London Bike Polo 2008 - 2010

The Bisons;

We are offering 24 spots in the main Worlds tournament to Europe! Any manor you choose to fill them is up to you guys. There will be a Wildcard, but fill your 24 first!

yeah, I saw it, and I was super happy to read it coz we got 23rd :D

The Bisons;

It's nice, you will come?

I've got the tickets since may :)

The Bisons;

Can I, along with 2 other NA-qualified North American players, get into the wild card tournament without playing in Calgary in August?

I can't swing North Americans, but I still want to come to Seattle.

I think the wildcard tournament should be open to any regionally qualified players!

Let me know the rule on this, thanks!

eric_dc wrote:

Wait...if it were a two-day wildcard, would it be Thursday/Friday, or Wednesday/Thursday?

When will the wildcard start!? I'm ready to book flghts! Can't wait for this, i know Seatle is going to KILL IT!

I'd like to exchange 2 unredeemed NA Qualifications and 1 NA Wildcard Spot for 1 Worlds Wildcard Spot, please.

Two and a half apples for an orange? Sounds fair enough but I doubt it'll be a deal. The world's wildcard tournament is shaping up to be one hell of a scramble.

Would you not have to play in the NA's to get qualified to get in the wild card tournament for the worlds? if they where having one?

I need a sugar momma so I can work less and play polo more!!

given that north american's just had to open up it's registration more so that the top 12 from each regional are now qualified, i think you guys are going to get an flux of requests along the lines of 'i couldn't got to calgary but qualified so does that make me qualified for a world's wild card spot?'

please let us know asap how you're deciding who can enter the wild card and when that registration starts.
thanks and can't wait to see you!

oh kiersten! i tried emailing you about it, but get at me if you need help. i'm going to be there but not playing.

First, there will be no exchange of qualification spots at this time. The top team 24 teams (maybe more) at NAs will be rewarded for their hard work by earning spots in the Worlds Tournament.

Second, only 8 wildcard teams will advance to the main tournament. So if you want a good shot at getting in, NAs is your best bet.

Third, Wildcard registration will be done in two sections, one of those sections for 24 teams will be open to the entire world, and will be the same "race the clock" system we've been using. We are trying to work out the details on the second set of registration.

Please check the World's website regularly for updates since, we are moving fast to make this the biggest tournament, with the best polo ever. http://whbpc2011.com/

Sweeeeeeeeeeet. Top 8 wildcard here I come!!!

Damm this is gonna be one hella of a tournament.

"We don't need no education"

Lefty at your service. If it's not too late.

Deaddog- sacbikepolo

I am seeking a team for the wildcard. I know Pistolero already filled THAT^ spot. Get at me get at me get at me.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Lefty at you service! Got plane ticket, ready to play!

All lefties serving it up...i'm in if I can get the extra time off.

P/M Hardcourt

Dear Seattle:

Could you guys (and gals) use a helping hand with tourney duties, etc. during worlds?
If so, I am volunteering: I can grill food, empty garbage cans, help with brackets, etc.

The only thing I cannot do efficiently is use a leaf-blower, as some of you may have found out during the Desert Polo Invite in Tempe last year.

Some of the reasons I would like to come to worlds, and Seattle:

-I would love the opportunity to play pickup with players from around the world

-I would relish the experience of being at the largest and most important tourney bike polo has to offer.

-I have heard that there is a restaurant in Seattle that makes 12-egg omelettes, which I feel compelled to conquer.

-I am not opposed to being all cracked-out on America's best coffee.

-I want to throw a fish at the Pike Place Market.

Please let me know if you can find some ways for me to be helpful at worlds.

P.S. I also do a good DMX impression, for what it's worth.

yes, this is what we need. you will be taken care of friend, we're going to need all your skills, aside from blowing leaves.

Oh come on blazar,Dus is an expert leaf blower.

Deaddog- sacbikepolo

deaddog wrote:

Joe, you have no idea how terribly I operate a leaf blower. Pistolero and the rest of the L.A. crew were actually scowling at me after they finished hacking up the dust & debris that had just flew at them.

i thought it was funny. you just kept going in circles.

Wicked as of right now every team signed up for the NA's but 2 get to go to worlds!

I need a sugar momma so I can work less and play polo more!!

I'm looking to for a team in the wildcard tourney. Anyone need a third? If its important, my resume includes third in last year's NA's and second at last years eastvan crown....

free agent jackpot ^

Someone pick this man up!!!!

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

If my team can't make it but I do; do I have to give away my spot (came 9th at the Euros) and go through the wildcard?
I already booked my flight.

*Somebody please think of the children!!*

hey there polo, i want to play in this worlds tournament. if something happens to your third, they break and ankle whatever, don't sweat it! i'll be there for you, ready and willing to take orders, be and do whatever it is you need to complement your skills. let me know. yours truly

I'll get straight to work on breaking Mr Do's thumb so you can play with Nick and I.

Look on European thread, maybe some teams need a third.

any accommodation info?
almost japanese players (3 teams / 9 players) booked their flight ticket. we want to book hostel asap.

and we wish to express our gratitude for your hard work. thanks, seattle!

yea, I'd like to know where people are going to be clustered- there doesn't appear to be much near the courts as far as accommodations. It'd be great to know where most folks will be staying/partying/playing pick up so we can make lodging choices that are near the action.

I am available as a 3rd if there are still any teams with an open spot.
Would like to play in the Wildcard tourney also.
I am ready to travel, but only if I'm actually playing.

I am a lefty as well.

you can contact me at xian@spaz.org

or via Team Gravy Pants facebook page

Lefty Bullshit!

International Registration is being handled on an "Invite only" basis. We've been in contact with a representative from each country and are taking care of details. This is mostly an issue for Europe since Australia has already taken care of registering all 6 of their teams. And I believe Japan has already sorted out who is coming as well.

European players interested in coming to worlds, need to contact Alejandro to claim one of the 24 spots, and we will send you a confirmation email and payment details. Registered teams will be posted on the World's webpage http://whbpc2011.com/

Remember to check the website regularly for updates and full details.

I have send our list just now. ;)

Slight change of plans. European Teams can now REGISTER on the http://whbpc2011.com/ website!!!

Spread the word to your fellow Euros please!

is the main tourney a saturday sunday thing or friday saturday sunday?

Main Tournaments is Fri-Sunday. Seeding on Fri and Sat. 32 team double elim on Sunday.

How come only 32 team double elim? I thought you guys are going to have 6 courts? We just did 32 team double elim in Calgary on 2 courts with no problems...just wondering.

all games to 5

the dark end (aka Bobb Todd, Marzipan, B.R. Fuck Face)

Please refer to www.whbpc2011.com for final numbers.

It's more than 32 teams.

World's Jersey's are available for pre-order now! They are only $50, and they are rad.

Hey Leon

What size is that sexy jersey you are sporting there?

Large, mentioned this on the separate thread for pre-orders...

"After trying on the sample jerseys we recommend ordering 1 size larger then the size you wear in a men’s t-shirt."

http://whbpc2011.com/2011/07/jerseys/ for pre-orders.

have a wildcard spot, possibly no team now.
do you need a third? did you and a teammate want to play but didn't register in time...
all those things can be accommodated. help! i want to play, you want to play, let's play!

Is the wildcard schedule posted somewhere? I don't see it anywhere...

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

i think it's wednesday and thursday....so...typical wed seeding and then thursday elimination day? whether it's double elim or not i have no idea, this is my best guess and the most logical. it does say up there that it is both days though.

Wild card is just two day seeding, no elimination day. just straight up playing to earn a spot in the worlds. this is what i understand, and could be different.

oooh ok. that makes sense...

I'm am able to come out for the Wild Card and any team need a third?

MKE 05-06

I need a third...

There is a reasonable chance I can make this. Anyone need a player? If not I'm a full-on volunteer.

This man is very full on.

Bottles did you find a team?

what days is the actual main tourney running?

just saw the reply a few posts up.

I am available for the wildcard! Anyone else need a third? Im good... promise...

MinneaPOLOgasm -----------[] ((((O

I will be making it down to this as the commute is roughly 2 hours for me sooooo get in touch if your team needs to be complete

How come I can't figure out how to register? I went to http://whbpc2011.com/ and I see nothing about registering?? Also have some Calgary teams that are interested in getting into the wildcard event, any update there? Are there still open spots for that? Help me out, either I'm missing something or the website is lacking a lot of crucial info. (schedule, accomadation, registration, info??)

Not quite sure why you can't figure that out....

...there's only like four different posts on the front page of www.whbpc2011.com that deal with registration/qualification.

Do you have a pile of your club tshirts? Is there a box of shirts from tourneys past? Wouldn't you like to wear something different than that same old polo shirt? Have you coveted other club's shirts?

Well now there is hope. Grab your shirts and wash them on hot. Bring them to Worlds. We can all sit down and swap shirts. Hoodies too. You can go home with a whole new polo wardrobe.

Actually not really....as I mentioned in my earlier post there is basically nothing on the site about registration or accomodations, or did I overlook something?

You're on your own for accommodations Mr. Gullickson, volunteers have priority housing with Seattle Polo players, I saw your email this morning and that is very helpful but I have to disagree with your assessment of the world's website, teams will be registering for the Wildcard, the main tournament is for pre-qualified players, if you don't know whether you're pre-qualified, maybe you're not too serious about coming....

Okay, but if you ARE prequalified. How do you a)confirm your team is coming b)solidify your spot c)pay? Where is that info. Im sorry, but the website is pretty vague right now.

see above comments with the emails of all organizers

"You're on your own for accommodations Mr. Gullickson, volunteers have priority" ....ya I've never helped at a tourney before why would I start now. I have my own acommadations anyway, just saying this close to the date I would expect more info (any info) on the site by now....other people seem to agree with me, and I see that since I brought it up, some content has been added....so thanks!! I did email all 5 of the people on you're list of contacts and they have answered some of my questions, some remain unanswered....trying to book off work, more info is always better than less info.....I know I'm pre-qualified, do you know if you're pre-qualified?, maybe you're too serious about constructive criticism.

Naw, it's appreciated. It's kind of a lot of work coordinating this international tourney.

We are placing volunteers in Seattle Polo houses but those spots are going to be tapped out soon.

We're still negotiating for a discounted per night stay at a downtown hostel but I'm not sure if that's going to pan out.

The website has been screened by Seattle Polo members and we all thought it was pretty good. It's not an encyclopedia but we figured people would trust us to put on a great tourney and email us with questions.

I'm looking for a team, too. There are so many single players, should be possible to form some teams out of them...

blazer....who do we email specifically with concerns?
who is doing wildcard registration?
who is confirming volunteers?
who is spear-heading concerns for qualified players/registration?

i don't want to email 7 ppl with one person is appropriate.

First, let me clear this up, I know the cosmos are complicated but it is blaz-AR, as in, Arr Matey!

Secondly, wildcard registration was posted on the WHBPC website.

Volunteers are being coordinated by our city rep Medic Mike or myself.

Qualified teams need to let Rowdy (Jason Rolfe) know that they are planning on coming. All of those emails should be listed above.

The more people you email the more answers you'll get! Just kidding, I'm fielding emails and forwarding to the correct people.

aaron.grant00@gmail.com (your friendly local active galactic nucleus)

i have opted to email you.
i am registered for wildcard and went through your website, but like many had team member etc changes, that was why i was wondering who was directly responsible for it.

also when did the wildcard spot changes take effect? i see it's now 12, instead of 8?
i'm also curious about the europeans that are not technically qualified to register...i see priority is being given to qualified registrants, but to those that do not have 2 or more members, are they then required to play in the wildcard also, opening up more spots in the tourney by not completing the 24 euro teams? or does the terminology "to be determined by the event organizers" mean that they will be allowed in because they can afford to come across and play?
personally i think they should have to play in the wildcard and if the allotted spots do not fill up, for any of the allotted spots, then those spots should go to wildcard placements [beyond 12 if that is how the numbers work].

once again. you're all doing a fantastic job.

The lazy way that some teams are registering and/ or telling us they're not coming means we constantly have to adjust spaces.

We're juggling things around as information trickles in.

thank you for being so responsive BlazARRRRRRR!

Question: Can two players who are pre-qualified for worlds wait until after Worlds Wildcard to choose their 3rd player? Seems like a lot of people will be traveling just for Wildcard and still may not qualify... so it would be nice to be able to pick them up as a 3rd.

Sorry if this has already been addressed somewhere else...

Hey tiff, it looks like you will be at worlds?it will be nice to see you! Have seen ya since Boston.

Deaddog- sacbikepolo

Hey Seattle, what happened to the invitation spots for mexican teams? We are not invited anymore? Do we need to register for the wildcard tournament? We have one team with tickets booked already

north american teams: we have been gathering emails of teams that qualified in calgary and will be sending an email with the link to paypal very soon.

the reason the paypal link is not public is because we don't want a team to pay if they are not qualified. it would create a lot of confusion for us and cost us money in the way of fees if we have to refund anyone.

Most every well organized tournament has this posted well prior to start date. Not saying yours isn't well organized though! Just sayin'

only a couple weeks away and these are the teams playin in Worlds??(according to the website) Wow....kinda thought there would be more.....not trying to give you guys a hard time (well maybe I am a little), but you seriously need to get some info on your website...people want to know what's going on. I get asked for details from people and all I can tell them is the location of the courts and the dates. Even when I pleaded for replies to my emails with specific deadlines because I needed to book my days off work, no one had time to reply to them...so I had to make my best guess and move on without the info.....seriously, how can anyone plan for something when the schedule is this:

Wednesday 9/7 Wildcard Tournament Swiss Rounds
Thursday 9/8 Wildcard Tournament Double Elimination
Friday 9/9 WHBPC Swiss Rounds
Saturday 9/10 WHBPC Swiss Rounds
Sunday 9/11 WHBPC Swiss Double Elimination

if you'd like to see a better example of what a schedule looks like check here: http://2011nahbpc.org/ (and this was posted a month before the event)

I'm not trying to be an ass....I just want some info, and getting frustrated cause I can't get any.....nothing to speak of on the website, not much word on LOBP, and my emails remain unanswered. (not to mention a complete lack of info from people that I asked in person here in Calgary during the NA's).....so I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this way, and I know exactly how busy you guys are and how much work there is to be done, but come on....throw me a bone here; Please!!!!

Tournament starts on Friday, early. Tourney ends on Sunday, late. Wildcard starts on Wednesday, early. Wildcard ends on Thursday, late.

What kind of information and details are you looking for Justin? Do you need to know start times and formats for each day or something? Those are coming.... I don't know what other information you need to book days off aside from the date of the wildcard and main tournament, but ask away. The group of people heavily involved with planning this are pretty busy, but I'll do my best to find out what it is you want to know as I'm not as bogged down with major shit and hundreds of emails. Email me or message me here, criggs1@gmail.com

justin....i believe the wildcard is two days of swiss rounds, because all they need to find out is the top 12 [for now...may change depending on registrants]

i have a question regarding team members. if you have a team for the wildcard, whether you move on to worlds through that or not, does your team HAVE TO REMAIN THE SAME [barring any unforeseen injury or reasonable excuse for changing a team member]? i would think that it would have to be the same to continue on...but just want to clarify for everyone who is registering/has registered.

Teams need to remain the same unless something totally unforseen and weird happens. But no fair planning on that.

Can someone tell me about the nets being used for this?

I want to direct you to the website for this just to be silly.

NAH measurements, Metal goals.

The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

I want to direct you to...the moon.

I'm happier now, metal goals are a step.

::Housing Update::

Hello all, here are a few links:

These are a few hostels with very reasonable rates ($30 per person per night) and free breakfasts. I checked with them all about their availability the week of Worlds and they all appear to have plenty of room, but I would definitely reserve as soon as possible. In a perfect world, we'd all camp right next to courts for the whole five days, not going to happen this year....

Also, I've posted a Couch Surfing event and if you don't have a profile I'd get one because you can usually find someone willing to put you up for free.

Have you guys e-mailed any volunteers about housing yet? I know you guys are really busy and we are your least priority, but I sent an e-mail a while back and still haven't gotten a reply yet.

Midwest is best!!

ooh, sorry about that. our volunteers are definitely housing priorities, can you re-send your email to aaron.grant00@gmail.com? we've got space for you. is it just you?

Also, here is a link to a map-in-progress showing coffee spots, courts, bike routes, the hostels, pickup locations, food and grocery stops (polo community approved, not every single one).

Like I said, in progress, will update and will also take requests for stuff you want pointed out... aaron.grant00@gmail.com

anyone in Van have a spare bike rack that i could borrow Thursday through Monday? Renting a car Thursday, driving down to Seattle and back to Van on Monday or Tuesday.

Hey Kev, I have one for you. Any spots available in the car?

That's awesome. And yes. I'll email you...

Is their any other single qualified players out there who would like to form a team.

Polo for Days

Talk to Kiersten from Seattle and Pierre from Regina, they are looking for a qualified third!

I need a sugar momma so I can work less and play polo more!!

I also am still looking for teammates ... so yah holla already !

ps. I don't have hype just skills

visit the worlds site for an update regarding registered teams.

Many Thanks

They'll be as close to the NAH standard as possible.

If anyone is looking for a cheap hotel I just found one inbetween downtown and the courts. Its the Seattle Travelodge(map).

Its roughly $110 a night for two double beds. If you go to their website directly and click on the Specials there is a 30% off rate.

Only 3.2 miles on the Burke-Gilman bicycle trail to the courts.

this is where i'm staying until friday! woot!!!
there's a pool!

Alright! Pool party!

I'm calling them today to make sure its still going to be open. Apparently they also have a "Spa" I hope that means sauna and not just an exercise bike.

/edit Pool is still open and will remain open until "sucky weather" comes to Seattle. There is a shuttle service at the airport for $19.99 one way to the hotel. Shuttle Express (425) 981-7000

Does anyone need a place to stay on Tuesday September 6th? We have room for 2 people for one night only. $25 per person. Hit me up!

almost japanese boys and girl will arrive at same day. (we will stay to hostel in downtown.)
if we aren't suffering from jet lag, we wanna hang out with you, Sven!

Sure thing, I'll send you my cell phone #.

Fatiguen & Sarah is staying at the Marco Polo. Just sayin....

What's that? Oh I see its a hotel. Oooh that's pretty cheap, but about twice as far.

But it's called the Marco Polo! That was seriously the deciding factor for us.

also staying there.

I'm kind of surprised by the amount of confusion out here in the poloverse regarding WHBPC 2011.

#1. There is a website. It has lots of info. That info is being posted as it is figured out. If some of it is vague, that's probably on purpose, but you should be able to extrapolate the general idea from anything.
#2. I think just about everyone has been to a tournament before. You know how tournaments work. There is pick up. There is a party. There are swiss rounds and a double elim day. In this particular case, there will be some extra polo for the wildcard. What more is needed?
#3. We made it clear on the accommodations page that we can't house everyone. People who have actually contacted us to tell us they would like to volunteer are being given jobs to do and places to stay. Once all those spots are filled up that's that.
#4. We have an email: info@whbpc2011.com that is clearly posted in various places on the website. I personally am getting about 50 emails per day that require unique responses. This is not a business being run by full time employees. This is a DIY tournament being run by people that have other jobs as well. I have basically been adding about 25 hours to my work week in order to get the work done for this tournament. Everyone else has been doing much the same. My girlfriend never sees me, and is often pissed about that.

So basically what I'm saying is...people need to chill out and trust us. We are working hard (as evidenced by Blazars constant trolling on this forum to answer questions) to bring you all a kick ass tournament. Our goal is for it to be well-organized, fun, logical!, and standard-setting. That being said, we aren't here to hold hands. If you have a serious question, let us know. We'll do our best to answer in a timely manner. If you have a less than serious question, you'll get an answer when you get to Seattle.

Oh, and despite how serious this post sounds, I love you all and can't wait to see you in Seattle for the WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONSHIPS OF HARDCOURT BIKE POLO!!

Need help:

Ok, i need some advices or recommandations from seattle people:

I would like to buy a bike for my gf in seattle. We planned to travel by bike after the Worlds to Vancouver where she gonna play with us (Clement and me) for the Metal Tournament.

Do you, seattle people, know some good bikeshop or someone selling an used bike wich can fit these needs?

I was looking for cheap bike like the Trek "Gritty" model, or the Paddy Wagon by kona, but if you guys have any better idea im more than open.

My brother and teamate Clement is already in Seattle, if something come to your mind you can either tell me quentin.bailat / gmail.com or directly to him.

Thanks a lot, "je n'en peux plus d'attendre".

oups forgot the size: she's pretty small, i think a 15'' or 48-50 cm frame is the aim.

Talked to your brother about this. When you get to Seattle, find Garth and Julian and talk to them.

Ok thanks.

Anybody need a third for the wildcard?

Talk to Erik from Seattle...

Yea I'm looking to form a wildcard team as well. If you're down to play with me we just need one more.

As of right now I also have 2 spots left at my place and am happy to give priority to teammates.

Erik - If you're still looking for a third I'll play. Aaron can provide a reference if you don't remember me... (E Van).

Yea Bob, I still have not firmed up a team yet, I'd be glad to play with you. Keegan, can you confirm so we can lock it down or hunt another third? it being so close I'm getting antsy and will likely jump at the first chance at a team.

Great - looking forward to it. I don't have a place to stay but sounded like you can help me out there... assuming you didn't jump.

Keegan isn't coming tell friday...

P/M Hardcourt

haha! glad to see you're going to make it. have you settled this team yet? got some australians looking for a third.

hi Blazar, Would like to make it and have a ride lined up, but I'm waiting to hear from Erik re whether team is settled.

I'm still looking to form/join a team. Bob, have not heard back from any third but am down to play if there is one.

Hi Erik - Wasn't sure what was happening but Blazar says that he has found a team for me.

If you are on the west coast this weekend, don't miss Portland! An easy ride from Seattle on the train. We promise good times all weekend long.

Kitten polo for life

...those days are over.

I see from the map on the Worlds website that there is no alcohol allowed in Magnuson Park or at the tournament.

Does this law apply to all parks/outdoor areas in Seattle?

must buy your own coozie or paperbag.

Riki@Tokyo Hardcourt Bike Polo
tokyobikepolo.blogspot.com / www.flickr.com/rikitko / twitter: RikiTokyo

Yep basically it means no VISIBLE alchohol. Bringing a waterbottle and pouring your beer into that is the best bet. Other options include cups, paper bags and coozies (although the last 2 options are clearly kinda obvious). So long as you conceal it you're pretty much fine to do as you wish, but yes, the law applies to all parks.

Double double.

drinking alcohol in public in seattle is against the law. even if it's in a coozy or a water bottle, you still risk getting yourself and the seattle organizers in trouble. there will be a beer garden at the tournament that will be selling drinks for less than what you would pay at a bar. you are allowed to drink the alcohol you buy from the beer garden inside of the confides of the beer garden.

carve. smash. eat shit.

Unfortunately this is something we are going to have to be very strict about. The organizations that have helped us organize this will be very unhappy if they see drinks outside of the beer garden around the polo courts.

That's not to say that you can't pour your beer into a bottle and walk down to the lake for a drink between games though. As long as it's not around the courts and people are careful, shouldn't be a problem.

Also, the beer garden will be pretty cheap, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

Bethink thee of the albatross, whence come those clouds of spiritual wonderment and pale DREAD, in which that white phantom sails in all imaginations... ~Herman MFing Melville

No worries. I understand completely.

I'm just really glad there is a beer garden - it would be culturally insensitive to deny Australians access to beer during a tournament :)

I will be selling some Seattle Bike Polo water bottles at the tournament. But they are limited in number!

sorry maybe this is on your website and i missed it...but is there a cost to the worlds tournament we can all know about?
some of us are playing in the wildcard and would have to pay more after we qualify to play in the WHBPC...what would the additional cost be [if known]? just trying to budget etc...

can't wait!!!! 8 days!!!!

hey, chandel.  from the qualification section:

The cost of registration for the wildcard tournament is $30 per team ($10 per player), which will be deducted from the Worlds Tournament cost if you rank in the top 12 of the wildcard tournament.

so if you do well in the wildcard, it will only cost you $45 to continue into the main tournament. good luck and see you soon!

carve. smash. eat shit.

thanks...was just looking for the total should we make it through.
ONE WEEK! yay!

any suggestions for a hotel near the courts?

never mind me. just booked room at the travel lodge. pretty reasonable too.

got the cameras ready -- can not wait until next week.

So as of right now, there are 46 teams signed up for the main tournament and 25 teams signed up for the wild card (from http://whbpc2011.com/teams/).

If there are less than 72 teams signed up for both tournaments, will the wild card simply be folded into the main tournament, as it was in Calgary?

Teams are still kind of creeping in.

We're looking at different options as things change. At the very least, more teams will be allowed into the main tournament from the wildcard should we end up with fewer than we want/need.

Bethink thee of the albatross, whence come those clouds of spiritual wonderment and pale DREAD, in which that white phantom sails in all imaginations... ~Herman MFing Melville

Seattle I am sure you are all over this but please don't fold the wild card. It would give teams who did not take a week off work and spend way too much to go to Calgary an even playing field (not the point of NAH this year). Totally fine if 20+ teams make it in but make them earn it. 10 games at least.

Word. I can't wait to play polo for 5 days. (knock on wood)

Just double-checking, what you're saying is that you want the wildcard teams to have a harder time because they're tired, which somehow balances the gains they got from their financial inability to go to Calgary? I don't see how the two are related. Yeah, it sucks to go to a bunch of qualifiers when it turns out that you didn't have to. But there was good polo to be had and maybe even some (gasp!) fun. But I'd bet that the people who weren't able to make it feel bummed about it. They're not saying to themselves "aha I'm going to get to play in this hard tournament without working!" If it's the case that not enough teams register and almost everyone from the wildcard will get in, what are the alternatives? Like in Calgary, it may be the case that you only need to win one game in double elim to qualify. Or if it's only swiss (like I think it is) then you're really not going to need to go much above .500 to get in. That's pretty easy. Maybe people will start throwing games, who knows. I find it better to avoid the wildcard and have more high quality polo rather than forcing teams to play unmotivated in the wildcard. But this really all depends on the number of teams which I haven't looked at. Just sayin'.

If the wild card gets folded, I'll be spending my extra time in the kitchen of the polo mansion. Everyone wants to see that happen.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Is there anyone driving from PDX/SF/SAC (or heading that way on Monday/Tues) that might have room for me on the way down, sans bike? If yes, please email me: passionforwords@gmail.com.

Yeah Aaron. When you get in?

Arriving in Seattle today. Can't wait!

We still have two open spots in our hotel room for Tuesday night only. If anyone needs a place to crash tonight get at me, sveden@mplsbikepolo.com

Is there a carpool for people coming from the airports? Im coming in Thursday @ 6:30 pm, a ride would be greatly appreciated and compensated with beer!

p.s. I also need a place to pitch my tent!

Hello all you beautiful polo people. Just basking in the sweet Seattle sun, surrounded by good friends and the invigorating chaos of hosting the biggest event in the poloverse. You all are in for some epic weather and lots, not some, equally epic polo. Remember to grab your sunscreen, flip floppies, aviator glasses and your beach towel. Swimming is suggested as a cool off activity, as is sipping chilled beer in the beer garden.

There are six courts in two separate locations conveniently located just a quick ride away from each other. A few quick pointers for our out of town guests:
-helmets are required by law
-open containers (containing alcoholic beverages) are not allowed in Magnuson park.
-cigarette butts are considered trash and will need to be disposed of as such
-there will be recycle, compost, trash and butt containers, please use them!
-food will be at the court location, the free food is for players only
-we would love for players and teams to be jerseyed, biked, malleted and helmeted before your game begins
-and on time check in would also be wonderful

Please check with your nearest friendly Seattle Polo player for any directions, questions or recommendations.

Your brightly burning,

can free food be for the Sponsors too? :D

give blood. play polo.

Hey all- I'm just putting it out there, if anyone needs a last minute third player I'm your gal! I'll be in Seattle bright and early tomorrow. I'll see you all soooo soon!!!

Midwest is best!!

In the same boat here. If you find a third, gimme a ring. Welcome to seattle! erik 206-569-5265

that's two people wanting to be a third....and I know one person who lost 2 teammates....maybe you guys can work something out....

If anyone can grab hugo at the airport around 12:30pm Thursday that'd be awesome, (Air France flight #306, gets in at 11:50). I won't have the car i thought i was going to have.
