What's the easiest way to get from Sea-Tac to Van? Looks like flying in there is about half as much.

Zack, lets talk this weekend when I'm in DC. I could maybe give you a ride. There's also a ferry that I think is about $80.

There should be a bunch of Seattle making the trek up there so we might be able to squish you in which is cheapest, but you will need to keep reminding us cause we aren't super organized about traveling. There is also a train that runs up there, but I don't know the cost. Ferry isn't a realistic option unless you want to go into Victoria and hitch a ride with them.

take the train. most awesome way to go its $55 one way and you can reserve a hook in the baggage car so your bike doesn't need to be boxed up, ride it in and hang it up. its downtown to downtown. so easy and there is a bar car too. one other benefit is the gorgeous views of cascadia.

We'll be rollin' through Seattle some time Friday night and will have room for bikes and people. Call if it is late and you still need a ride fiveO9-5nine5-15fiveone.

Update: we will be rolling through Seattle very early Friday morning to make it for dirty 3some. Will have room for one person and more bikes. Give me a call as late a 4:22am Friday if you need a ride from Seattle.

Denver has a team looking north west come september. Passports in the making but just in case does anyone have a submarine? we have 3 people in a car driving to seattle and then e.van so we can possibly get one more poloista looking for a ride.

Who else you got coming from Denver?

Cherri C, Me and Scooter S the Lefty.
We are really the only team in Denver that are capable of making the trek.

Hey Kids! For those of you traveling early, East Van will be throwing a small, co-ed tournament on the Friday before the crown! Similar set up to the ladies army this year: morning seeding rounds (approx 4 games per team) followed by an afternoon double elim. There will be a 16 team cap to make this feasible. Mandatory one member of the opposite sex on each team (cross-dressing is encouraged boys, but it does not make you a lady- or vice versa). Please e-mail me if you are interested in participating, a separate thread under the "tournaments" section will be created this week.

Thanks!
Shannon

waiting to see what this is about, is it a throw down? my team already is co-ed so I figured we could enter this and then enter the crown. is it a mixer tourney though?

just a co-ed tourney from what i gather, there's a separate page for it over here:

Any information about housing? three of us from Denver will be in town friday morning and will gladly share whatever alcohol we import from the states as well as greens and smiles.

Shannon is getting the housing stuff sorted and will probably make an announcement soon. I am already having Ohio, Louis, Joker and Evan at my place. I also have a two person tent for the yard and live a three minute ride from the courts. I will have to check with my housemates on the potential of tents in the backyard. Stay tuned.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

So, it looks like I'm going. Probably flying into Seattle with "drizz," on either Wednesday or Thursday morning and flying out either Monday or Tuesday.

What's the story on a place to stay in Seattle, a ride up to EV and a ride back... and and and and and COOK ME DINNER!? I'm a wonderful house guest and always pay my fair share of gas. I've hosted hundreds of people on CouchSurfing so I know about being a good guest. "drizz" is OK, too... we just can't let him get all zooted out before a long car ride, or he'll pass out, piss himself and your car... I'll take personal responsibility for making sure that doesn't happen, though... promise.

Help us!

I'm looking into housing for you too. We haven't even started with rides yet, so I'm sure we can fit you in. Let me know when you pick Wed, or Thurs. We play every night so I suggest coming in Wednesday.

hell yeah. we (max, scooter and i) also should be in seattle wednesday sometime, think we're leaving denver tues afternoon..

.. so for sure count us in on some pre-van polo pick up

don't come wednesday come on tuesday for pickup that night also =)

Cherri, just move here already!!! Can't wait to see you! Do you guys need housing in Seattle?

soon enough I'm sure :)

I think we're staying with a friend of Scooter's, but thanks so much for asking! and I'll be sure to update if that changes

We're finalized, we arrive at about 13:00 on Wednesday afternoon at SEA.

We're down to head up to Van whenever, if rides are available.

you can stay at my place in vanc.

tight. i'll bring my flip flops.

i already have a pair for you.

I may be getting in around this time depending. I'll know later this week. You can totally ride from the airport and I can escort you to wherever you may be staying.

I might be able to grab you after work. I finish at 3:07 and i can leave right away. You may have to wait 15 minutes or so. Skype me tomorrow.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

skytrain it joker, it's even faster than driving. seriously, you'll spend more time meeting up with a driver than getting onto the skytrain. think free carts, free wi-fi, and trains every five minutes. twenty minutes to commercial drive, we can meet you there or it's a two minute ride to the court..

Alright, Thanks guys I'll be in touch.

Just get a ride Joker...it is not 20 minutes to Commercial Drive from the airport. Someone will come pick you up. Stoked that you're finally coming up bro!

polopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolopolo

Assuming we can't get a ride from anyone in Seattle, what's the second best way to get up to EV? I looked into a couple buses (QuickCoach) and they want another $25 each way (on top of a $75r/t) to take the bike and it has to be boxed. Amtrak has some weird schedule that looks like it's only twice a day. If there any other public transport options I'm missing, clue me in please.

jas and I are not sure of our plans yet, but Im sure there will be other folks from portland who could pick you up.

the train is awesome, take the train nola, it's called the cascadian. take the one that's the train all the way into canada (not switching to a bus a the border). it's cheap, you get to walk around, and it's the easiest border crossing.

We booked the train to get up there. Only $40 and you can bring the unboxed bike on board. Not a bad deal. We will not refuse offers of rides back to Seattle before Tuesday, though... so keep those coming.

it's all grown up here baby?

Does anyone know anything about bike shipping? I heard rumor that Amtrak was cheap... I'll be getting into seattle on thursday night and taking the bus to van on friday. would it be better to ship directly to vancouver (if so, where to?) or seattle? Also, does anyone know about how long it would take to get it from chicago to the west coast? thanks!!

suzy

Do not ship to Canada. Huge duty when a bike crosses the boarder when being shipped. Send it to Seattle ( or take it on the plane in a hockey bag).

please say team adorable is officially in for friday? if you need a ride up, we should have an extra seat out of seattle first thing friday morning/last thing thursday night.

Team Adorable is in as long as we can get to Vancouver in time. What time are things starting up?

Canoe. Be a true Canadian. May not be faster but way more fun than sitting in traffic. Sorry no suggestions except hit off peak times

looks like going through mission before reaching abbotsford, then port coq on hwy 7 (named for the hon. peter lougheed, whom i share a birthday with) is the most straight-forward detour coming from the east. yes?

Honestly I don't think it is that bad. They have not removed lanes as of yet. Just the same old regular 30 minute or so wait. I think going to the other way would take longer.

I was through there last weekend. It's not bad. You are better off coming Peace Arch than coming from further east. Late night and early, early mornings are your best bet.

One week left! Some information:

This tournament is not capped... we will not turn anyone away!
Registration will be in person, friday at the courts until 5 pm, or saturday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am STRICT. We have limited daylight hours and we need to make the most of them, so you MUST be on time. Registration is $15/ person, and the first 100 people to register get special registration packages! There will be a party friday night, those that roll in late can rendezvous there. We have created a map that should meet most of your needs:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&z=16&msid=11371189997...

I have not annotated everything, but it should be fairly obvious from the map that your best options for food etc. will be along Hastings st. and along Commercial dr. There will be food and hopefully coffee at the courts.

Thanks! See you all soon!

thats a good looking map!

[quote=momma frey] so you MUST be on time. [quote]

You could be the ugliest woman alive robbie! 2 days to get the surgery done, get on it and you're in! What's the waiting list for things like that in Vancouver?!

B.F.P. 403

Okay if you are female and a decent player we will supply you with some KFC and a 12 pack of beer, and all you have to do is join up with us for one night of your life. If you want to join up with mike for longer that is up to you, but we would love to get a third.

KFC & beer? Are you trying to attract players or scare them off?

"KFC and a 12 pack of beer"

That's one hell of a pick up line! No wonder you are a married man these days.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Citizens of the United States of America you have a 24 beer quota coming into Canada without paying duty. PBR in America is half the price of the price of PBR in Vancouver. So bring your quota from a duty free unless you want to pay out the ass for our beer.

Registration ends at 10 am Saturday. Looking like PNW fall weather so bring along a rain jacket. Lastly, sleeping bags and pads are a good idea given the number of people coming.

the pbr in canada is real beer though,6%, not pissy amero piss.

Interesting fact! Here in the US PBR taste like piss water. PBR %6 I wonder if that taste any better.

that's the dumbest fucking question i have ever heard?

I am a dark beer fan. (Arrogant Bastard) I am sure the stronger PBR will taste better. I am a high volume IBU beer drinker.

mmm... amero piss.

first day total success, swiss rounds in the sunshine after the morning rain cleared up, mountains in the distance. many crashes. many more goals. just a bunch of drunken mayhem, teams here from all over. tim rocking the brackets.

i'll see if i can't get some saturday results up ben, but rest assured chicago is kicking ass.

from eric on facebook:

Best court location ever! Nothing but mountains and ocean tankers as far as you can see! Team is holding in there and we went 4-0 today along with seattle A and rorys team. Double elim starts early tomorrow. sleep now....

Thanks. Sounds beautiful. Called Suzi, Greg earlier, so I'm up to speed going into the quarters. Eager for more.

seattle and E. Van in the finals, seattle from the winners bracket. E. Van won the first came so final game is now.

4-4 in the second final!

5-4! Seattle over E.Van in second final.

Most fun I've ever had on a cell phone. Thanks to Suzi!!!!

I got to tell the news Leon that Seattle retained the Crown last night. He stopped in Minneapolis for a night on his way back to Seattle.

Congrats Seattle and all involved!

beautiful polo. thanks to van for hosting and everyone coming out.

if anyone has standings post em up!

awesome weekend. amazing polo. big thanks to cara for letting me crash, reverend phil for keeping me fed, jenna for playing with us, and the east van club for a wonderfully organized tournament. always a pleasure to see my west side canadian friends.

GEMMA!!!!!!!!

this thread seems like the best place to mention this, so i'd also like to thank the seattle club for allowing daniel and i to save a bunch of money by flying into your fair city, crashing at the polo mansion, and bringing us to/from vancouver. your world class polo is rivaled only by your treatment of travelling polo players.

---------------------------
carve. smash. eat shit.

Thanks to everyone who travelled, it was so great to come home from Europe and just see everyone the next day. I felt like I was on polo tour in my own city but didn't have to sleep on a couch.

Make sure you let DanielNOLA stay at your place he is the best house guest ever.

East Van you are amazing as usual, what a great job you did welcoming the world to your courts, your couches, and your over-priced beers.

Thanks Rory, Justin, Chris, Seabass, Juilan, and Dusty for putting on the best double beer-point final we've seen in a long time, it was polo at it's finest.

Thank-you polo gods for holding off all weekend and then pouring rain on Monday.

x2 on the most exciting double final. East Van down 0-4 in the first final. Battle back to win it (and the hearts of the crowd) 5-4. Second final East Van gets two (that's 7 UNANSWERED!!!) goals before Seattle starts to make a game of it. We go to a second beer point game and Julian taps it in after a positional opening was created. SO MANY FAT GOALS YOU ALL! Justin, East Van, you are the true MVP. My heart is still racing!

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Wonderful weekend everyone. Thank you and nice playing.

what a weekend. friday through sunday was non stop fun and polo. great job east van. showing up saturday in the rain to see tarps lining the sidelines was great. the party friday, knife fights saturday night in the rain ending with andre and tim nearly naked, and the two exciting final games sunday to finish it off.....awesome! Thanks to shannon for the hospitality and the rest of east van for making everything run so smoothly

too bad you didn't stay for the afterparty!

Goddamn that was a great first time in East Van! Excluding border troubles, the weekend was amazing – tarps and good food were abundant, friends new and old in attendance, and world-class polo finals kept EVERYBODY on the edge of their seats. It looked like anybody's game for a bit but Seattle pulled through to finish it off with one small tap from Julian...and the crowd explodes! Thanks to East Van for all the hard work – you guys rocked it – and thank you to my teammates Leslie & Agata, Greg & Suzie – pleasure playing with y'all! Congrats Julian, Dusty, Seabass, knew you had it in you. Can't wait till next year!

a big slayer thanks to all you folks in east van, a special thanks to the hardest working man in polo "rawbie rooster" for taking us in. Yes, those last two games were EPIC... i am very happy to see the switching of players on various teams on the upper crust of polo these days, coed teams going all the way to 4th place (cecily you rocked it!) and all girl super teams kickin' ass as well. this time last year i decided to move to East van and have never regreted it for a moment...i love you polo...pieter too!

Huge thanks and lots of love to all those in E Van for making this happen. It will not be another year before I see you again. Count on it. This weekend was the most fun I've ever had fulfilling a two year old promise.

coffee, whiskey, beer. repeat.

it was great to see you out, bring more of you next time! it so fucking awesome that this has become a truly international traveling sport, i love seeing people from all over enjoying the polo with the mountains in the background.

tell ben to throw something down in chicago before it gets too hot and we'll be there.

No, no. Thank YOU OHio! Great weeekend!

So Fun! Thank you Evan for a wonderful weekend of polo and friends and...Salmon! Best food ever. So good to see all the West Coasters.

A HUGE thanks to my amazing teammates, Eric and Jason, and to our coach, Drew. And to James for the hospitality. And to Slocan Family Restaurant for the Monte Cristo. And to Andre for winning Knife Fights in underwear and bare feet in the rain.

I also want to say how awesome it was to get fourth as a Co-Ed team. It's really exciting for me to see all the amazing ladies rising up the ranks of the tournament standings - just watching the 2-Oh-Chicks was an inspiration. I couldn't be prouder to follow in the distant footsteps of Jen from Ottawa and Amandaconda and the more recent footsteps of Birdie, Maija, and Leslie. Keep it up, ladies!

Great to see so many out-of-town faces at the tournament. Thanks for coming and making for good times!

Videos from the tourney will be posted at www.evbp.ca/videos

Thanks everyone for coming and making the tournament such a blast.

Shannon, Cara, Tim, Boardz...well done pulling everything together. Wouldn't have happened without you.

It's been said before but I'll say it again... amazing weekend everyone. Thanks to east van for coming together and making this happen, thanks to seattle for being such great house guests, thanks to all the teams and players for just being wonderful!

One hell of a weekend!! thanks guys!

Wow.. one amazing weekend! .. top notch this year!! .. thanks East Van ..
incredible polo and venue .. the food .... f'n tasty, fresh, and endless ... oh and whoever managed to bring the million liters of coffee to the court on sunday ... I love you !..
I'm not sure why we played Denver 3 times but ...those were prolly my favorite games all weekend we played ... it was also fun to lose to kenny and the kids ... dang they were good ..
A million thank yous to Rory for the place to crash I'd love to book that suite again for next year please .. and Jason for the whiskey @ 2am .. it made getting lost in the pouring rain for a hour on the way home that much more bearable ... thanks Seattle for all the four loko's ... ugh ... and polo magic .. that was one intense final !...

one last internet bj to give has to be to the calgary click for letting me squat their tent, corey for those canadian balls, treeface and dan for being the cutest bromance in bike polo, and justin for the shirt off of his back. oh, and trevor is pretty cool, i guess. :) i'll see all of you in calgary next summer.

X 3 Cecily and Jas' comments re co-ed teams; Cec way to keep it real on the podium challenge! NEVER RETIRE!

And it's true, 2-0-Chicks played like crazy out there- and big ups to the coed Denver team too...

And to everyone else at night courts, soaking wet steamy polo houses, side-by-each welcoming party at Cara's, sushi with a thousand loud people and Wheatie to top them all, Tobias the mechanic (little known fact: he volunteered his time on Sunday), Timtim with the whiskey threats, Cascadia rolling deep and people coming from all over the map. East Van keeping it so real coming back from a 4-0 and the seemingly obligatory BEST FINAL EVER... the Dusty to Julian's rear-wheel tailwhip bounce pass; Justin pulling out crazy low-angle shots on Seabass, Dusty's application for a patent on that J-hook upcourt pass, etched in my memory forever. hot shit.

glad to see you back emerson, but this post is not funny at all

all approved polo patents, and all credit for original magic, whether true or false, go to ian. sorry but thems is the breaks, dusty. just ask nick rva.

he even gets credit for the drumbstick even though i had to call him this morning to tell him about it

i man don't play no foolish games on saturday

Unless I Man is a generous fellow with that Creative Commons licencing, I suggest he travel to Seattle and pick up a phat royalty check or begin Polo Litigation. I've got good lawyers but they're all tied up in marine law right now.

I'm home now. This was a great week.

Thanks Piet / Lori for housing me, feeding me, taking me to a couple chill spots around Van and introducing me to 10% fat yogurt. Dude. Fuck. Sorry I didn't have time to mop the floors or dust.

Thank you to the Seattle heads for hooking us up tight with rides, couches, breakfasts, cycle tours, pickup, hot showers, laundry, tools, directions, jokes and laughs (the two most important things). You guys are an ill bunch, stay what you are. Any of you are welcome down here anytime, I'll return all hospitality provided to us in-kind. You always have a hot meal and a bed in New Orleans.

Seattle wants a full results/copy of the brackets so we can finalize Triple Crown Points after the October Tourney!!! Someone help us out or can anyone recreate them?

Much Cascadia Love!

X 2 Calgary would also like to see results?

I need a sugar momma so I can work less and play polo more!!

This is Cecily. From what I can remember...

1. Seattle - Dusty, Julian, Seabass
2. East Van - Rory, Chris, Justin
3. West Coast - Martin, Joker, Evan
4. Portland - Eric, Jason, Cecily/Drew
5. Seattle/London - Rowdy, Andre, Ali
6. Portland/East Van - Kenichi, Timtim, Max?

Somewhere in there things start getting tied and I'm not sure who came from which path to get where. I think Kenichi/Timtim/Max beat Bob/Tom/Bottles to get where they are. I think you guys and BP Bloodspill should be in there...man, this gets confusing fast.

Hey Gang, I'm glad so many fine people made it out to our tourney. It was good, as always to see your shiney happy faces.

FYI, we had 50 2010 East Van Crown t-shirts made and they sold out at the end of Saturday. I know a few people would like one who didn't already get one. We're getting another 50 made. I'll be in Seattle in a month if anyone there wants me to bring them one, and I'll be in Victoria in a couple months. I can also send you one if you wish. Thank You East Van, for the most epic tournament! the perfect knife fight spot, and great parties and hospitality. Thanks Meg and Ali for letting us crash all weekend. If you're ever in Colorado we got you... and I had an amazing time in your beautiful city getting to meet so many polo peeps, and making new friends this weekend.
I definitely plan on coming back. Gongrats to Seattle!! and everyone from Vancouver that blew my mind with polo. Those were two of the most intense matches i have ever seen in any sport!

Big thanks from Oly! We all had a blast, for sure. Thanks tim for the spot all weekend, the knife fight underpants special (and i'm not talking about the kiddy pool...), and runnin the show saturday.
Awesome polo all weekend, played before the sun went down, nice. bike mechanic was awesome, the proper pasta chef was weird, grilled corn was amazing.
can't wait to see you all later.
congrats seattle for the win, Evan for the times, cherri for hustlin all my quarters.

East Van Thank You. This tourney and your city blew my mind. Luv the 2 tournament weekend, and all the fun times surrounding it. East Van is the land of plenty of courts, and the Knife Fight court is a special place. I'll never forget Stanley Park either. Although I was put off by the higher beer prices at first, Martin's delicious homebrew more than made up for that. And that Mexican food spot, Bandidas that was great too.

Congratulations Dusty, Seabass, and Julian but that also goes out to Rory, Chris and Justin MVP. That final was one for the ages, certainly the best one I've ever witnessed. Also thanks to Martin and Evan, I'd go to war with you two anytime... Thanks to Tim and Shannon for all your hard work, and Piet for calling the games.

Love these tourneys, cant wait to see everyone soon.

thanks east van for all the awesomeness! thanks seattle for the hospitality before and huge thanks to Ali and MEG KENNY the official polo sponsor for putting denver up through the tournament and keeping myself and agata for a couple days afterwards with laughter and adventures. thank-you shannon and evan for putting together the co-ed tournament, three days of polo was teh shit. big congrats to cecily for all her amazingness, and also to seattle and evan for the most epic of finals!

Robbie Boardz, glad I finally got to meet you, my only regret for the last week or so is to have missed out on the go karts.

Epic Epic Epic Props to: Shannon for throwing the Threesome, E.Van and Piet for the excellent Crown tournament (it was my first, it won't be my last), Meg and Ali for letting us have the comfort of your chill apartment and for being so freaking awesome. First time in my life I've met an australian who says "eh" more than the canadians... All of the people I've met who enjoyed watching Denver play; thanks for all of your compliments and advice. we've changed our game so much in the last year of playing and have so much more to do in the next year. My goal for 2011 is to get my first first place...

Epic Epic props to: E.Van's 2nd place team and Seattle's 1st Place team (and vice versa for the Threesome) for the best finals I've ever been to at the crown and a very close finals in the threesome. Way climatic, way better than anything I've ever been to this year. Dusty gets huge props for being a flying bolt of lightning and Rory for being the most unstoppable force I've seen in polo.ever.seriously.ever.

Epic props to: The seattle guys. you know who you are. Everyone who I got to meet but didn't do so well at remembering your names (I had so much cannabis in canada that my mental facilities were wayyyyy behind in the name remembering department) please forgive me and find me on facebook and add me. I promise I'll remember you next time. But Mike, Cody, Seabass, David, et.al were so fun to play with in Seattle it was the highlight of the trip.

Yeah Daniel, I know you're reading this, waiting for me to bust a bad joke or make an insinuating comment about you in some way but seriously, you NOLA guys are super fucking awesome to play with and I have nothing but LOVE for you all and I seriously am looking forward to the next chance we get to hang out and play. south central represent
