Below is a link to the rules. Please note that one of the differences you will notice is that we have introduced a crease (3.0). Please familiarize yourself with the rule set in advance of the tournament.

congrats! vancouver is beautiful. hope those that can't make it over the border are limited in numbers.
=/

We're super excited here in Portland to host travelers from all around the world the weekend before! We'll probably organize a big group train ride up to Vancouver if there's interest...

BTW, it's the weekend of World Naked Bike Ride. Last year there were 10,000 people filling the streets - the crowd stretched for miles and miles.

Hi so for the Co-ed only ONE player on each team can be male?

Hey Shelley, Sorry about that. My first attempt at posting this got lost somewhere in cyberspace, when I wrote it all up again I neglected to edit that part. I've changed it now. I also changed it so that the tournament happens in 2013!! (not 2012!!).

Portland is thinking about hosting a fun format tournament the weekend before. Some ideas:

1. Third wheel - polo couple +1

2. One of these is not like the other - for example, two bearded men and one with no facial hair, or two blonde girls and a gingerman, or two drunks and a straight edge dude. Etc. Endless possibilities.

3. Good ole big toss

Thanks Portland for making the draw to Cascadia even more exciting!!

+1 for laying this out well in advance.

What the WHAT!?! Van again? Have to start fundraising now #euroladiesrepresent

Love you girls and can't wait to get over there! xx

Bake that cake!

Hell yeah! Need to start saving the pennies, I am NOT missing out this time!

At least one Australian team is planning to come this time

Hell yeah girl!

Got my team for the co-ed. Just need a name................

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

I hope your team includes a woman named Jess...

I hear your team is full of assholes!

Vancouver again? Are there no other cities with female players that have yet to host? Chicago? Toronto? 8 months out seems like plenty of time to plan.

Don't bring cake to a donut fight.

The tournament has been hosted outside of Cascadia/West Coast the last 3 years. I think return home is just part of the rotation. Also Portland bid for the tournament in Lexington and then had trouble getting a spot to host. Not up for argument. Just laying out some facts.

That will never work.

When Portland stepped forward to host, all the Cascadia ladies agreed it would be a regional effort. No other city showed interest or has, to our knowledge in the six months since Ladies Amry IV. As George mentioned, Portland had trouble finding a location and Seattle couldn't take on primary hosting duties due to other bike event commitments. We are lucky enough in East Van to have a decent working relationship with our Parks Board and were able to find a location that suited a decent weather timeframe.

We are really excited about bringing the tournament back home after its huge success and Cascadia will no doubt put on a show to remember! Portland is already planning a side event to make the trip all that more worthwhile, especially for those traveling from overseas.

Sorry Vancouver doesn't suit your interests Ian, but this tournament is primarily for the ladies.

I love Portland so much!!! Any of those

You knows it

Hey ladies and gents!!

In terms of travel plans, please do not book flights yet. The tournament is almost surely to be these dates, but there is a slight chance they may change by a weekend on either side. I am just finalizing details with Parks now.

When booking flights, it is probably cheaper to fly into Seattle or Bellingham (we'll sort out how to get you to Vancouver, Bolt Bus is a good option, but there will likely be rides as well). I usually check kayak.com and compare airlines for cheap flights.

I do personally agree with Ian on this. I think it's too soon for a return to it's original host city. I understand that Cascadia wants a return there, and that Seattle was really interested as well as Portland but that there is NACCC's or CMWC in Seattle so that's not possible for them to do. Portland, as far as I know, was awarded the general bid because of a move back to that region, but there were other cities that had expressed interest, in other regions. There are also a couple of areas that haven't hosted this event at all, SW and SE.

The fact is, the process by which it has defaulted to E.Van because Portland hasn't been able to secure location/planned effectively up to now [and this deadline was discussed amongst Cascadia's ladies and gents only] is subjective. If Portland was unable to host then it should be opened up again for bids. Publicly.

There is also a possibility of a Cascadia/Seattle effort for 2014 since their commitments will be over and they could have planned for it much more ahead of time.
There are still 4-7 months of planning time for this, depending on a city's ideals...

I may be ousted further for this commentary, but I'd still like to know. As far as I know, last year there was a discussion on this forum and other places regarding bidding and whatnot. Lexington won the bid. That's why it was there. Why is this coming year different? And what will happen for the next?

I think this does need to be asked: Why wasn't this brought forward before finalizing plans for Vancouver? Why wasn't opening bids up and having Vancouver place a comprehensive bid an option?

I'm mostly curious. I doubt that anyone will want to rock the boat now and shoot out other bids against you, Lisa, but for future understanding, and process, and just peace of mind: how will this really work in the coming years?

Yeah, Ian's right! It should be in Toronto!

I think Ian's suggesting he organize it in RVA?! Thanks Ian can't wait ;)

Hey Chandel,

As per our side discussion yesterday, we were all really hoping that Portland would be able to host as well, but the understanding among Cascadia ladies when Portland did step forward to bid was that it would be a group effort. If anyone else was interested in hosting, they sure weren't vocal about it. And yes, Cascadia has more women than another other region actively playing bike polo and we've spent the last three years traveling all over the USA to attend, so it is nice to have it at 'home' again. It wasn't our original intention to host in Vancouver, but we are really stoked to do so.

I might also point out that now that Ladies Army has grown much larger than any of us thought, and is now attracting women from all over the world, Vancouver is closer to Australia and Japan to travel.

In Austin, Meg Lee stepped forward to announce interest in hosting LAIV in Milwaukee, Lexington also showed interest. Because there were competing interests, we ran a bid process (http://leagueofbikepolo.com/forum/tournaments/2011/05/18/the-ladies-army...). Bid deadlines were due in mid-July so that the host city would have the better part of a year to plan. Meg pulled the Milwaukee bid at the last minute becasue she was relocating. So Lexington didn't technically win the bid. This is the only time there was more than one city publically interested, so yeah, we ran a bid.

In the future, I have no problem with running a bidding process, I agree it is the most democratic way of deciding. Having said that, I do recognize that this year was different and we are well under way to host at this point. I also think its too late in the game to open a bidding process given the magnitude with which this tournament has grown. I think it only fair to give a huge lead time to anyone interested in hosting in the future.

I hope that answers any concerns about this and we look forward to hosting an amazing tournament!

In other words, welcome home Ladies Army.

what happened with the idea to make the tournament at the same time as the worlds?
so that the we can come with our boys from europe?

anna wrote:

A lot of London girls were wondering the same thing. Most people will only be able to afford to come over for one or the other, two trips across the Atlantic in one summer is too much :(

Sorry ladies, this was never a point of dicussion for LA5 among proponents.
There are only rumours of a worlds location still.
We would prefer to be more proactive in tournament organizing then wait to see what else shakes out.

The Girls From South American are looking foward to do one girls tournament!
Can you girls help then?

I think this is amazing! I suggest you start a different thread and there will be people ready to help out!

i agree it would be easier if it could be around the worlds for most of the european girls.

Chaudchocoshow

I'm really looking forward to this, going to do a 2 week trip around the North West.

Hbomb you might be the only Londoner going ... HAH

Bake that cake!

I hope not, I doubt I would go then. Depends if the Germans go.

I think I just made one German's day by changing the dates...

Please note that these dates MAY change. We are still finalizing things with the City. Please do not book flights yet. I hope to have things confirmed no later than early December. This tournament will not coincide with Worlds. Sorry to those who would like to see that happen.

Worlds in Las Vegas??!!!!

what's up rumor mill. how you living?

____________
The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

Ladies Army 5, now on fb:
https://www.facebook.com/#!/LadiesArmy5

I would love to play in this tournament, but i only have one other lady possibly interested so far. are there any teams looking for an additional Saskatchewan player :) ?!

saskaboom

should i probably bring one of the three crowns that got left behind in lex and now lives in my house??

Hey Quinn!
Yes please bring the crown. It's unfortunate they weren't awarded in Lexington.

Hey folks,

We have been offered an amazing set of four courts in neighbouring Burnaby. This has resulted in a date change for Ladies Army to May 9-12. These dates are confirmed. I have updated the map so you can see the location.

Central Park in Burnaby borders Vancouver and has 12 sets of courts, four of which will be reserved for Ladies Army (the for to the north). This is about a 20 minute bike ride from East Van and is also at the Patterson SkyTrain station. The park also has a series of trails, two ponds and a pitch and putt golf course.

Looking forward to seeing you all in May!!

Pitch and Putt golf ftw!

Also 4 courts ;)

Will Portland still be doing a warmup weekend?

Hey John,
Yes, I believe Portland is still on board. I'll let them confirm though.
Also, I am going to see if we can get a deal on pitch and putt!! Will keep you updated.
Four courts was always the goal!

We're also open to the idea of the weekend after. Depends on interest.

Thanks Pete! I think people from across both 'ponds' will be looking to extend their trip and are excited to head to Portland and Seattle.

This

I want to do a 2 week trip around the NW, I don't mind which side of Ladies Army it is.

Be good to know before I book my tickets - was planning to fly into Portland and out of East Van. Any idea yet?

We're talking it out, and we'll have our decision posted within 24 hours...

Its certainly fucked for me , separate from the whbpc and during exams periode. Hope i could make it one time !

Chaudchocoshow

Sorry to hear. It's never going to work for everyone. Fingers crossed for next year!

I will help with love girls from the country of whbpc2013 to organize an other gorls tournament. Will see

Chaudchocoshow

I second this, ladies army is great but i would love to see more women specific tournaments so not so much weight is put on one tourney especially since it seems like a lot of great world class competitive players might not be able to make this tournament due to their schedules and finances. MORE TOURNEYS!! MORE COMPETITION!! (and you're my teammate and I lurve you)

Hi Josephine, London were thinking that Hell's Belles might become a tournament that happened in a different city in Europe each year. We've had two successful years but we'd like to share it with other scenes. Do you think Geneva would be interested for next year? I'm not on here often but if you want to talk about it, my email address is jess@lhbpa.org.

Sorry I know this is off topic guys!

This is literally the best graduation present I could ask for. I'll be there with a brand new paramedic license. Hopefully no one fractures a collar bone (or anything else) this year.

Glad to hear!

If anyone has any questions about the tournament, we have set up an email account: ladiesarmy5 [at] gmail [dot] com.

We've started sending out sponsorship packages!
If there is an organization or company you'd like us to hit up, let us know on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LadiesArmy5

Thanks for the date change! I can definitely make it now and this will be the perfect ending to my semester and post-birthday celebration!! Kayla and I still need a third though. Who wants to join us?!

Midwest is best!!

You need to pick up a "Jess" so we can have a Meg, Kayla & Jess vs. Meg, Kayla & Jess game ;)

Haha! Jess from Lex play with us!!! : )

Midwest is best!!

First , The Heff i luv ya too
Second, Jessie i m interested

Chaudchocoshow

Portland Bike Polo is excited to invite polo folks from around the world to join us for a tournament the weekend before Ladies Army 5.

May 4-5, 2013 - Portland, Oregon

You're welcome to show up ahead of time - we'll show you around town a bit. Afterwards you can take Amtrack or the Bolt Bus from Portland to East Van - we'll coordinate a group ride as time gets closer...

Why is this still showing up as june?

Because I forgot to change the date in the 'date' field. Fixed now.

Ladies Army two days before my 30th birthday? Ummmm fuck yes!

Abe's b-day is 3 days after. I'll bring the kazoos and party hats!

-T

LA the day of my college graduation ceremony?! sweeeeeeeeeet. fuck the milestones.

What program are you graduating from? We'll figure something out!

anthropology undergrad

Hey ladies! Folks are getting in touch to sponsor this tournament! Super awesome thanks to all the key ladies who have organized this tournament in the past. You have all done such an amazing job to put this tournament on the map, everyone's taking notice.

Thank yous to Fixcraft, The Bike Doctor, Fleet Velo and Chunk Clothing for their early interest! Lots of great stuff (and $) to make #5 another huge success!!

Coed winners still get a sixer of something though right?

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Sure! Set it up!

**DATES TO BE CONFIRMED NEXT WEEK**

Ladies, sorry to do this to you. Parks told me the dates were confirmed, now they are telling me they need until next week to confirm. I am sure they will be the same, but I hope no one has purchased a ticket in the meantime. Sorry, dealing with bureaucrats is difficult.

oh shit.. hope it stays the same or I may have made a very expensive mistake

Virginia, I will change the location to keep these dates. Seriously. We want these dates too, believe me.

Hey folks,

Paperwork is in the mail from the municipality to us to sign the permit.

May 9-12 are the dates.

Paperwork will be submitted with payment early in the new year.

Thanks for your patience.

Dealing with two levels of government on this one was an unforeseen turn of events.

Onward!

woohoo! this'll be crackerjack!

Last tournament before official competitive polo retirement. This one is for Chandel and Sowka.

...those days are over.

JUST KIDDING!

i still can't believe this.
:*[

love you forever jill. thanks for being the best teammate i could have hoped for! this is going to be a blast!

Hey ladies (and fellas)!

Ever wanted to play bike polo on water? Well, you're going to! We have a location change, which is on top of a regional cistern. Bike polo on water it is!! This new location gives us room for four courts, plus a potential pick up court. Provides more space to hang out (we have a soccer field), more room to accommodate sponsorship tents and is closer to washrooms. Plus it has spectacular views to the north shore mountains!

Here's our draft site plan... enjoy dreaming till game day!!

We will be making annoucements regarding registration and housing in the coming weeks. We will attempt to accommodate as many players as we can in our own houses. It may not be possible to accommodate everyone. We are looking into a hotel deal with The Waldorf like we had for The East Van Crown after Worlds in Seattle. But there are also some great Air B n B places out there. I just did a quick look and I think any of these (particularly the one on Cotton or the one in Strathcona) would be a great alternative:

Edit:I have a team now. Thank you.

And yes, playing with Kirsten would be a blast! :-)

Play with Kirsten White, TO. That would be awesome/confuzzzing.

You knows it

**Paul Component Engineering sponsors Bike Prom with tonnes of product to help us celebrate! Do you have a date yet??

I don't have two other ladies I can play with, guaranteed, yet, will I still be able to sign myself up and possibly be put on a team?

louise

Hey LucyLou, it's not likely we will find a team for you, but it is likely you will have no trouble as it gets closer to the tournament to find a team. Yes, you can register just yourself to have the spot, but when you register, you must also pick two other TBD players to complete your team's registration. You can edit team details once you have a team.

Ok, sweet! Thank you. I'll keep looking for two other ladies. Until then, if anyone needs a third....pick me! ;D

No excuses Mike, you have my phone number you could have called me to see what the deal was.

Can someone better than me please play with shelly so she'll shut up and I'll feel a littel bit better for being a dick.

Also you have my number and could have sent me a message. Or did you not notice until I told you? I don't really know what happened, though I do agree you have littel sausages attatched to your hands.

Yes!
I would suggest that if you are planning on being a referee, that you select that as your main purpose for being at the tournament as we would like all referees to be in the same colour shirt.

All shirts will have the same artwork.

Apologies that we have to ask for t-shirt info before unveiling the artwork. You'll love it, trust me. Besides, its a free freakin' t-shirt!

I'm am the least valuble referee. I'm just there to party and make my once yearly pilgramage to vancouver.

____________

Hey lisa, I'll help you referee... I just filled out the survey as a co-ed player, but I'd also love to help ref.
also side question, you are reffing by NAH based rules? any changes or exceptions?

pretty sure LA4 didn't strictly follow NAH rules, - at least that was my experience.
Can you skate? ; )

...those days are over.

JUST KIDDING!

Alright hosers.  We love you, and we are super excited to host the world, so please help us out by paying for your FULL TEAM and letting us know the team name and players.  This saves us from canceling your registration and wasting time chasing you down for $5, $15 or $20.  Savvy?  Thank you for your understanding.

If you haven't paid registration, you do not get a registration package, you do not get on the court, you do not eat for free, you do not get into bike prom for free, you do not pass go, you do not collect $200... PLEASE PAY YOUR REGISTRATION FE...ES!

Go to paypal.com and sign in
Click 'Send Money'

RULES. Yes, we have rules. (Also posted in main tournament description above.)

Ladies and Gentlemen, as this is not a NAH tournament, we do have some freedom with the rules. For the most part, we have adopted most of the NAH ruleset for both the co-ed and Ladies Army 5. Below is a link to the rules. Please note that one of the differences you will notice is that we have introduced a crease (3.0). Please familiarize yourself with the rule set in advance of the tournament.
