NACCC BIKE POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! BIGGEST TOURNAMENT EVER!!!

36 teams, from all over. Filled with tension, drama, thwarted thefts, great food, and WORLD CLASS POLO.

We'll have a full list of results, for the tourney and the individual awards very soon.

Congrats to Ottawa. Mallets of Mayhem cut through the bracket like a buzz saw. Philly, another brilliant finish and an all around schooling of the polo community. So glad you came out for this one. East Vannier.......FUCK YOU!!!! Buckle up, kids!!!

Lastly, THANKS TO ALL. Everyone who stormed Chicago made this tournament what it was.

How many tennis courts per polo court?

Two. The dimensions for the full court (before adding boards which will make it slightly smaller) are 127' x 120'. The play is more lateral, lots of room to the sides.

For real. Practice your low-angle shots from the wings. Those courts are skuh-ware. It's not a light tap to pass from the corner to your teammate in front of the goal.

Nice job on the site, by the way. Yay Dumptruck!

Yeah, isn't the site sweet? Dumptruck is the man.

hey guys,i need to get information from you about places to send postersand info about naccc polo. i am trying to compile a database of sorts withbike shops, bars, places bike people hang out, contacts for each team. so i you could email me back with some names, addresses, email addresses of good places to send posters that would beawesome. braley

what is going to be happening on monday sept. 1st?

Monday will be a continuation of the discussion that will happen after NSPIs, i.e. at time for us to take a look at what just happened and perhaps bring some fresh ideas and consensus on rules.

chicagobikepolo.com

I miss bike polo and playing bike polo with my friends... anyone have room for me on their squad I will be pretty rusty but coming down from 10,000 feet and a summer free of weed smoke should enable me to ride like the wind.

Why aren't you with MKE? Jake send you to inflitrate us?

Hells yeah, you can play with some Chicago folks if you'd like, it'd be awesome. Good to hear from you. How's it going in nature?

-Ben

chicagobikepolo.com

brian has not been approved to play with other cities..hes still in arbitration years with mke, he has at least 2 more years before he can be a free agent.

that said brian-there is room for you on a mke team.

no dice nyc...MKE!

PBR is giving you retainer money?

chicagobikepolo.com

actually brian is part of the wisconsin league so there is free exchange of players even those who are not eligiable for free agency.

if he plays on a 2/3 madison team that will be like using up an option in baseball. only so many options before the league/ team has to decide if they will keep him at the big league level or release him to another league/team

he has to clear waivers though

maybe we should wait until brian gets to a computer again and he can decide for himself

no dice nyc...MKE!

my mistake, i thought we got brian for the 20 feet of tubing that we gave you.

you can have cody in excahnge for the tubing :)

no dice nyc...MKE!

how bout some ski poles in the mix

Jonny, you wanna share some of that tubing with Chicago? We'll trade you for this trophy thing we got. Any you could spare would be awesome.

chicagobikepolo.com

Wait, you actually HAVE the trophy now?

sure, just come up to friendlies on the 26th of july in madison or milwaukee, i don't love the courts in mke right now but i will play anywhere,

 jonny

OK, I know we haven't made either of the last two weekends, which in your eyes may invalidate this request but I'll propose it again: let's do the 26th in Chicago. Not only will you get a full day of action on the court that will be the NACCC finals court but, really Jonny, other than the length of our courts, with all due respect, Chicago has the best court facility of the three cities. Boards all around, no concrete pillars or light boxes in the way, just pure polo.

chicagobikepolo.com

i'm smoking a pork shoulder all day on the 26th, courts aside, madison has the best food.

agreed.  no dice nyc...MKE!

Madison has, arguably, the best polo food in the country.

chicagobikepolo.com

that 25-26 is the riverwest 24 hour bike race in mke. and i beleive we will be participating in that...sorry fellas.you could come and form a  team and ride with us for 24 hours?!?! no dice nyc...MKE!

Seven hours of polo > 24 hours of riding around without sleep.

Make the right choice.

chicagobikepolo.com

it's looking like Lexington will be sending four teams. How full is the registration so far?

{}------- lexington -------{}

Bring 'em. The More the Merrier. But do me a favor (and this goes for anyone reading this): register on-line at the chicago site or send in your registry so's we can organize early. This will make all of our lives easier, I promise.

chicagobikepolo.com

Ben, should we go ahead and register even if we don't have team names and all that good stuff? We have enough commitments for three teams so far and enough other iffy folks to make a fourth team... we just haven't figured out what the roster of those teams would be just yet.

{}------- lexington -------{}

i would recomend not registering until the day of the tournament if you don't have a team name. In Toronto we registered without a team name and when we got there they had named our team for us and we couldn't cahnge it. Was really annoying.

Doug D

hardcourtbikepolo.com

Take a second and work out your teams and then register. If it's just going to be impossible to account for all four teams then register as many full teams as you can and register everyone else as a single. We're creating teams out of that list as well which will also help.

chicagobikepolo.com

How long'd you say it took to drive from Chicago to DC for the ESPI

it took us 15 hours from Madison.  plus one hour for stopping to tie the muffler to our roof.

So 12 hours for you in Chicago.

Yeah, sounds like Slapdick ain't coming, so a little D.C. at the NACCC is needed.

chicagobikepolo.com

So are tems registering and the site isn't updated, or are teams not registered yet?

I hope it's the former, cos this tourney is hard enough to organize without 20 unannounced teams showing up day of.

Chicago Bike Polo 2003-2008

St Louis Bike Polo 2008-now

Correct. The site has not been updated and we do have pre-registered teams, but not nearly the pre-registration we'd like to make organizing easier.

chicagobikepolo.com

Lesson learned from Toronto.
Pre-reg does not work too well.
There were over 50 teams registered for Toronto. That number changed to 31 on Friday night when the registration was done again. On Saturday only 28 teams showed. All it takes is one team to pre-reg and not show, then you have to juggle the schedule cause some team(s) just got screwed out of the games they were supposed to play. Yes you can give a bye but people want to play lots of games. Better off creating several schedules. Example 32 24 16 etc.. just give them team numbers for now and fill in the team names later(day of). And Jonny your team registered as Madison1(technically you were team 7), Jill's was Madison2(team 64). Which is the correct way to do this when trying to group the individuals from the same city into teams as not everyone registers at the same time. If ten people register from the same city and don't include a team name or list their teammates it is kind of hard to figure out who is with who unless they are a known team that always plays together. Only Mad, Mke, and East Van registered with all info so that one could know who was playing with who.
The pre-reg does help for getting a rough idea of how many are going to show but you can't get a firm number from it. Pre payment is another issue as many never pay in advance. Chicago I am going to suggest that you set up a way to reg without payment. It will help you get a better idea of who is coming.

We're still waiting to register three of our four teams because the full rosters and names are still working themselves out. Hopefully everything stays on course and no one has to back out at the last minute.

{}------- lexington -------{}

{}------- lexington -------{}

as of Aug. 10th it looks like 4 maybe 5 players (not teams) from NYC. Just a heads up since i think non have pre reg.

Good news, Doug.

It seems clear now that a successful online registry is a few years away for us. So, register Friday night, no problem. For those who want to register online: just put "New Orleans 1" or whatever. We'll change it at your request prior to the tournament, not a big deal.

It's looking good everyone. Hearing from a lot of cities all of a sudden. Very excited.

hi ben and chicago polo,

unfortunately, i won't be making it to the nacc's. but i'm making up for it by coming to chicago on sept. 24 for a few days. sasha is coming too. we're interested in riding around, eating good food, playing polo, and maybe going to the zoo. i know you're crazy until after the event, so we'll get back in touch then, but just wanted to let you know there are some nyc ladies heading your way.

cecily

Woah - ladIES, plural? (pulling at collar, steam rising.)

No, that's awesome. You'll be missed at the NACCC but I'll probably be more relaxed when you show up. We'll get some games in, great food - no problem. Looking forward to it, Cecily.

chicagobikepolo.com

hey ben, sasha here. i'm totally stoked for visiting chicago with cec.
should we bring bikes with us? i figure we'll be cool mooching off of you guys for bikes to play polo but i'd like to ride around the city to see things as i've never been before... and wondered if renting bikes was a feasible option out there.
i'm sorry i'll miss the tourney, alas, i'm a giant nerd and need to keep my head in the school books for a couple of weeks before i take an early autumn vacation.

I ain't complainin' 'bout having one, but I like the digital poster a little better than the screened one. I miss the grey biker and the details of Ben's face.

so what's up with registered teams on the chicagobikepolo website? is it more teams than it says but your too busy/lazy to list them all... or is that all there is?? Are there a lot more, just not paid, so therefor not listed..... or if people told you(by phone, or email, or in a comment here) they are planing to attend but want to pay on the spot, would you list them? and why no Chicago teams???
I'm too lazy to pay with anything less than cash (cash rules) F pay pal, F mailing a check. I'll put green in your palm when i see you. I'd have paid in Ottawa but no one brought it up to me, oh well.
What i'd like to know is who's gonna go to this.
by the way. i am going. not with my tournament crushing teammates Paul and Zach (neither is attending) but two other New York players.

Provided the ride is still available, Orlando FL is sending players; myself and at least 1 other dude. We're still green, but I'm moving up to the south side that week and figured a bike polo tournament would be a rad way to meet some new faces.

You said registration is cool on friday, right? are we even okay to reg even though we didn't go to NSPI? I'll be there one way or another.

See you guys in the 'go!

We have confirmation from teams/people from the following cities:

East Van
Boston
Minneapolis
NYC
Philly
Seattle
Portland
Ottawa
Madison
Milwaukee
Richmond
Dayton - yes, you read correctly. Dayton.
Columbus
Lexington
St. Louis
Columbia, MO
Orlando-fucking awesome
and, of course, Chicago

Maybes:

Pittsburgh
D.C.

So no, it sure ain't cause we're lazy. Most of you will obviously be registering Friday night/ Saturday morning. With cash. No problem. Everything is a go.

I am so F*cking excited for this. We've been running ourselves ragged here in chicago getting ready for y'all.
Mostly I can't wait to meet you crazy people. And play some polo.

10 days and counting...

coffee, whiskey, beer. repeat.

C'mon guys. Stands and skids for the side events? Leave that shite to the fashion-trakers at the race. Let's have some polo-specific side-events.

My suggestion: Line up all the balls we've got along the center of the court(s). Randomly pair everyone who wants in. 3-2-1-Go! Whoever comes away from the joust with the ball stays on the court. Keep going until there is a best jouster.

Give him/her a bottle of booze with the horse from a chess set hot-glued to the top. Cos it was like a "joust", get it? And the winner would be a "knight". Ben can dress up like a king if he wants.

Any other ideas?

Not to sound like a dick (ha...) or anything, but a faceoff competition sounds boring and lame. If you're into that, just go over to the NACCC sprints competition and sign up.

Hardest shot competition. Someone get a radar gun.

i've been thinking about all of the nhl all-star skills competitions. fastest around both nets, multiple shots from centre at both goals with a time limit, that sort of thing.

Hear hear. I second this. Let's come up with our own events. Can we have a T-bone competition? Best BJ? (Longest BJ?).

Adam, you only think the joust comp is lame cos I said the prize should be booze. If you win, I promise to get you a basket of organic apples.

Hardest shot sounds super rad. How about accuracy? Make a bulls-eye outta some plywood and keep moving the ball back from it 3m at a time. See who can hit the center from furthest away!

no way! i think it's lame 'cause it's -totally lame-. i would like those apples, though... sounds delicious!

accuracy is a good one. hitting the target from increasing distance, or n shots to hit m targets... either way sounds pretty fun.

also for hardest shot, speed doesn't count unless it goes in the net.

hey ben, did i hear something about you posting the official rules for this tournament ahead of time?

Doug D
Brooklyn, New York
http://www.hardcourtbikepolo.com/

hardcourtbikepolo+gmail+com
hardcourtbikepolo.com

Second

and i'll third that on the rules posting...

...and i'd like people to consider the ball joint proposal going on over in the b-j-j thread if a rule hasn't been made for the tournament already.

it boils down like this:

there are three choices of what to do with the ball joint:

a) leave it be, i love it, everything is legal
b) ban it outright, it sucks
c) allow it but restrict it somehow

given that some restrictions on ball joint usage already exist in most parts of north america, (such as no scoring goals with it, one must pass before a goal can be scored, etc.) i think most people slot themselves into camp c, the allow-it-but-with-restrictions camp. allowing the ball joint complete freedom is as controversial to people as banning it outright. lots of sports have restrictions on offensive maneuvers to improve the flow of their game; offsides in hockey and soccer, travelling and charging in basketball, illegal blocking in football, even corking a bat in baseball.

the problem that people seem to have with the ball joint is that it is too effective for driving straight to the net. yes, it requires skill and time to perfect, like all polo skills. those that have a problem with it are not concerned about whether they can do it or not, they are more interested in the impact that the maneuver has on flow of the game.

in their opinion unrestricted ball-jointing leads to players going coast-to-coast with the ball, which to them is not as interesting as watching passing and ball-handling skills develop down the court. the other cons they see are the side-issues of obstruction and mallet-whacking that tend to occur around the b-j in a game that already has a healthy amount of contact.

what people are worried about is that the ball joint, in a few month's time, will become the dominant play and lead to never-ending coast-to-coast ball-joint rushes by both teams, thus taking away from some of the flavour of the game.

timed ball-joint carries would be difficult to enforce for restricting the move. it's too complicated and you need a rule that's easy and can be used in pick-up without a ref or a clock. distances and pedal strokes won't work either, they're too open to the same abuse. what happens if someone holds on to it too long? a turn-over that delays the game? something else?

rory in east van, a strong proponent of the b-j, made a proposal one recent night that sought to bring together all of the good things that the ball joint brought to the game (namely the superior ball control and sweet flip-passes), with the concerns that people had about it, (specifically the coast-to-coasting and lack of passing).

he proposed that ball-joints be allowed in the defensive zone only; that you can ball-joint the ball all you want up to centre but that's it. you can do whatever you want with it in your own end except score goals with it.

it struck me as a simple and enforceable solution that took away what people don't like about ball-joint-freight-training yet still allowed for that sweet flip-pass ottawa taught east van this summer in toronto. we played with this new scheme in two-on-two for a full night of games, and it seemed to work really well.

banning the ball joint entirely would eliminate the cool parts, while giving the ball-joint free-reign changes the flow of the game by giving too much to the b-j'er. that one could take it out of your own end but not go offensive with it seemed to satisfy both worlds.

there are a million rules in polo already, one more won't hurt us if it addresses a pressing issue. bike polo is no less complex than hockey and soccer and they have a billion rules. even simple little ultimate frisbee has way more rules than we do. having a well-thought-out rule to address a very crucial aspect and currently controversial part of the game is a good thing. good rules help to free the game from controversy and un-sporting play far more than they ever restrict it.

alexis then proposed that scoop passes be allowed all over the court if they did not involve a b-j carry because he likes to flip it into the slot for hot goals. or something like that. i kind of agree with the thinking.

is there room for this discussion before the naccc's rules are set in place or is the book closed? i'll go with whatever people want, but will lean toward a schema that leads to the best possible games to both play and watch.

You mean you read something specifically stating that I'd post it? Yep.

And that should have been changed last week. Why? Because a week ago, I finally took the overwhelming majority of the advice I received from most of you: it's our tournament. If I post the rules (which are few) there would be an explosion of activity, including more novels from Pieter, arguing and ultimately trying to instruct us how to run this.

I don't need that right now. Rules will be in the handbook for the NACCC. We'll take time to go over them before Saturday's play. I assure everyone that other than nets, it's pretty much like Ottawa.

Sorry but that's the way it's got to be.

chicagobikepolo.com

So we held a meeting tonight and there will be 8-9 heads from richmond coming, we are unsure of any teams other than one, Ian, Nick, and Jacob. I am looking for a strong team that needs a third as I was bumped from my usual team with Ian. Normally my team is me Ian and Dennis (steel horsemen) but dennis can't make it and Ian and Nick want to play with Jacob as their third. I believe Im a stronger player than them but I guess thats my ego speaking and for whatever reason Ian (arguably our strongest player) wants to go with that lineup for his team. Hopefully those of you who've seen me play can attest for my game, Im solid. Im a bit salty about being bumped but I wanted to be fair and leave the decision to Ian as to who he thought he could do best with. I did not expect to be bumped, any suggestions?? We also need places to stay and I'll email Ben for those details.

send me an email! sean.phenomenon@gmail.com

I agree with le jackal I think this sounds fair and I am defiantly a proponent of the b-j.

I think thats the best ball joint solution I've heard so far. I was all for just banning it, but if you can only use it up to the half-line, less people will use it anyway. Still works for me.

Question though, just like the other rules, this has to be enforced with some sort of penalty, right? What if you carry it over the half line? If you violate, do you just give it away to the other team or what?

You get yelled at and heckled by the spectators. Just like all of the other "rules" (dabbing excepted).

Penalty: hug corey in the thong and fairy wings?
Second offense: lick dumptruck's back?

Anyway, a good point. No amount of fuss is going to change a damn thing, so why not?

Unfortunately, I don't have the rules file at the computer I'm using so if I think of it again amidst the other 80 things I have to deal with right about now, I'll get 'em up. Until that charmed moment, practice like Ottawa, minus any open goal considerations. There will be nets. Own goals will count.

Oh, and there will be ONE tap out point. How about that?

i suppose i could characterise you as the adam menace of bike polo, but you already are and everyone has already seen the video. do you want me to post it again? i don't think chombo's mom has seen it... jussec. nope, she has.

she has? looks like that's everyone! not necessary to post it anymore. anywhere. ever.

aw
but i only just saw it last night
and it wouldnt have been without the help of some old style and vancouverites that i would ever have found it!
obviously it is buried FAR too deep
and besides
it seems an apt example for folks to live up to in the heckling of NABPC
gods forbid we wind up with silent sidelines!

jesustwatpunchingchrist that video has to be on the front page of this site for all and sundry! sorry adam, but the polo world needs it...

Ottawa alexis brian and robbie. First
Philly mark Montana and alex second
Second
E van jackle Jen martin third

more time now, ottawa and philly had a awesome first game with philly going up 4 -0 right away , and the n brian fucking ran the next four goals for ottawa to bring it to a tie, and then around five min of knuckle bitting latter philly finished it, making every team at the tourney a looser. needless to say they played the second to figure the shit out and ottawa closed it tight... really good match well see the video soon. i would love to see all the footage of the top games uncut somewhere in high def if the camera guy is so inclined. tough to do with server space and all but it would be awesome.

i had so much fun you guys. thank you chicago for really throwing down! ben and alexis: you two made this shit happen. take a big huge bow! i thank all the teams i got to play with. the crowd? off the hook. (fuck you alexis). congrats to ottawa for going undefeated until the second to last game! that trophy should be en route to canada now no? respect.

To Ben CHICAGO and Alexis CHICAGO.

TOP CENTER 4-EVA

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Thanks to everyone in Chicago for holding the best polo tournament to date. Special thanks to Ben for organizing, and Aurturo, Tucker, and Joe for putting us up. Another thank you to Ben's girlfriend Brit for the delicious food to fill our stomachs and give us energy. OH...and the Hunter brothers as well (your food is amazing...people should hire these guys!)

Congratulations to Alexis, Brian and Robbie for an outstanding tournament and first place victory. Congrats to Jen, Martin, and Peter for a well deserved third place.

This was the most skilled tournament to date and it was amazing to see the level of play we saw. There were NO easy wins this weekend.

I know I forgot people and things but that's all for now.

-Mark

Portland thanks all of the chicago cats for all the hard work and the best tourney ever thank you and we will come back with a team soon so watch out thank you best job ever

Team wreck

Official list of all winners??? Best crash, MPVs, best defense/Offense player??

Okay, I will focus on the positives of this tournament, which had good developments in a lot of ways.
- The saturday bracket was great, breaking the teams up into categories and having competitive games all around was great except i would have liked to know that before hand so that i would not have played two on three that first day but oh well. This made the tournament so much better for teams all around skill level. I didn't play an easy game all weekend. That was great.
-I love the double elimination, makes for great play. Having a crew of people not playing to run the brackets was awesome, thanks so much alexis and braley (sp?).
-Food was great
-Prizes, WOW, Waterfords, are you fucking kidding me.

One point to complain about, i have traveled over 12k miles this summer for bike polo and i have yet to play a team from ottawa when i'm playing with kevin and ben. This will end once madison organizes the NYC because madison is only going to play ottawa in that tourney.

okay, my summer of bike polo is over, i'm going to sleep now.

people who post photos should post them with "nacccpolo2008"

"Having a crew of people not playing to run the brackets was awesome, thanks so much alexis and brie (sp?)."

well it's Braley, but i won't hold that against you. although i wish i could have been playing i had a good time being the mind behind Alexis's voice (as she would say) for the tournament. I am glad you like the double elimination and i am amazed that that everything worked out well (cause i had never done anything like this before) and for the most part it all ran pretty smoothly.

i am going to scan in all the brackets/round robin matches/ shot tallies for each person (starting with what ben gave me at 9:30 on saturday morning to work with( not even with all the teams listed) to all the double elimination brackets.) and have them posted up here for everyone to see.

It was awesome to see everyone playing in our home courts. and fun to be the one everyone came up to to see when they were playing. i now have learned most of your faces and the cities you play for. I look forward to getting out on the court and playing with you all at some point in the future.

that's all for now. peace. Braley

Thank you all for the highest moment in my polo life. I will cherish this weekend forever. Chicago thanks to all of you. Ben, Alexis, Brailey, Tucker, Dumptruck and so many more. Ben Hunter thank you for loaning robbie a bike and giving me that taste of Madison before the last game. I think that really did help. Pieter for his words of encouragement (smoke and a beer at the break). Chris and Chombo for giving us some flavour when we needed it most. The Urban Velo boys for the Pittsburg breakfast. The West coast crew such a pleasure to meet you. We will see you soon. Enjoy that bruise Drew, glad you got a prize for that. The Out Of Town Alliance for just being awesome. Philly for giving us such awesome games. Doug D for being such a stand up guy on the officiating and giving me the gameball.
And most of all I'd like to thank my team mates Robbie and Alexis for being the players that they are.
Ottawa loves you all!
Brian

What more can I say? I would like to acknowledge the performance of Too Much Cock this weekend. They were the revelation of the tournament for me. Johnny Midwest and Chris keep getting better and Brendan was already awesome. Also a special mention goes to the third place East Vanier team. Jen, Pieter and Martin really turned their game around after Saturday's round robin. I also can't express how good it was to finally see Mark, Alex and Montana again. Pure class from the Hoagie Rollers.
So thank you to the Chicago bike polo gang, especially Calvin, for making this the best weekend of my life.

Woohoo! We have been learning by playing with and watching the best, Alexis, and that certainly includes you, Robbie, Brian, and Jen (congratulations to all of you on your hard-earned 1st and 3rd - you are wickedly, jaw droppingly awesome to watch). It's been a mind-blowingly amazing first polo season starting with the ESPIs in DC and then seeing you guys EVERY FREAKING MONTH, and then ending with the NSPIs and topping it off with the best and biggest tournament so far. Ben, Alexis, Tucker, Braley, Joe, Abe, Brit, and ALL you other Chicagoans rock. You obviously worked incredibly hard for incredibly long and it showed in how well run the weekend was. Thanks a ton - I can't wait to see you guys again!

Best part of the weekend was coming away with a bag featuring Doug's silhouette. And we're pretty sure Brian's bag features a silhouette of... well, Brian

in case y'all haven't figured out, the order of comments are all out of whack on this thread right now. i'm trying to fix but i might just make this a flat list. so start quoting people if you want your responses to make sense for the moment.

fucking right that was a great tournament , thanks most of all to ben hunter not for lending me his bike but for letting me use his babys diper rash cream. that shit was the best damn thing that has ever touched my arse. it was a moment of desperation .

ask the folks i rode home with saturday night. that cream would have come in very handy...

again again again thanks so much. philly you fucking rock! i am saddened we couldn't play in the final game but would have wanted to lose to no one other than you boys. it was an honor to play you. ottawa, i freaking love you guys. when i say fuck you alexis i mean it man. i love watching you play and shit talking with you.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Are there any videos posted yet? I didn't see any on youtube when I did a quick search.

six photos.

On behalf of Richmond, I would like to say thanks to Ben, Alexis, Braley, Tucker, Ivan, Abe and all the other Chicagoans who made this past weekend possible. A special thanks goes out to Val who put us up and subsequently put up with us. She was very good to us and we were very lucky to have been set up with her. Big ups to Braley for sacrificing the comfort of her own bed and staying with us when she didn't necessarily have to.

Thank you Mallets of Gayhem for being so strong and such good friends. Thank you Martin for accusing me of stealing all your beer, even though I don't drink; I feel like you and I might be similar people on opposite ends of sobriety and I miss you already. Thank you Lexington for giving me a tire and tube. Thank you Corey for getting naked and not remembering. Thank you Dumptruck for wearing a banana costume during our pickup game. Thank you to all the teams who let me come hard on their back and then the other teams who bent us over and did the same... wait a second, umm. I wish I could have stayed and played pickup with and against each of you. I hope to see you all again soon.

Don't bring cake to a donut fight.

It was so great getting out and playing with and meeting everyone. Everyone I've met has been really stand-up good people, so thanks for that, especially Chicago. I just moved up here less than a week ago and it already feels like home.

This was the first tournament I've ever played in, and also the first time I've ever played with/against a really skilled team, and I just wanted to thank everyone (especially lee and calvin, go strangers!) for making it fucking amazing. I can't wait to come out and play regularly with the chicago crew, get better, and maybe even help represent in the next event.

Seriously... applause, cheers, and beers for everyone who helped make this happen. Bravo!

here is all the paper work from this weekend.

first up a list of all the people and teams registered:

well fuck i can't get the words to line up with the pictures. so here is a description of what you are looking at.

the first picture after all the registered teams is the list that ben gave me. notice that he didn't give me all the teams, that the marker was kinda fading, and the he has terrible hand writing.

the second one is the list i made to fix what ben gave me. the numbers in blue are the total goals your teams made during the round robin games.

peace.
-Braley

I can't believe she's blasting me still. NO ONE had the names of the last few teams when I wrote that. True, my handwriting could have been better, but Braley c'mon! Logic doesn't allow how anyone could have presented better information. That said, after busting my balls unnecessarily, you killed it.

chicagobikepolo.com

bustin yer balls means someone loves you ben. just like when i say "fuck you alexis" and alexis says "fuck you martin." dude, YOU killed it and pulled off an awesome show. fuck YOU ben...

also a big thanks to alexis from ottawa for helping me when i got confused with the bracket system.

Peace

To the Midwest: Thanks for having us out
Good games, and those final matches were real nail-biters. Had a great time all weekend. I didn't even mind the 12+ hour trek out there (mostly because I don't have a DL). Chicago, your city is cool. Can you believe it Ben? Your polo dream came true.

Most of all, it was great to reunite with the polo family and I'm glad to have re-met what was up until now a bunch of faceless entities on the internet. Martin, Cran, Drew(s) Fin!, so many others. we'll meet again.

so concerning the trophy hopefully many of beverages where consumed from the cup? does it have plans to travel to Brian, Alexis, and Robbie (That’s What She Said) hometowns if not ottawa?

SO will the trophy become like the stanley cup and the names of the teams and players get etched into it and then it get passed on to the next team that wins next year?? id really like to see this trophy become coveted and the wild stories of where its been start surfacing. will the trophy show up at all other bike polo tournaments that ottawa shows up at and sit on a table with people handling it with white gloves?

years from now after the cup has been lodged in who knows where and what knows who will the original be kept at the polo hall of fame and will people get their photos with it? will there be fans with tin foil versions?

or will all the fandom wait till the world polo cup is presented. and the northamerican cup be like the calder cup or will the worlds just be an less known trophy to the americas like the IIHF World Championship trophy.

okay i need to stop. sorry but sometimes getting carried away isnt that bad of a thing.

you're from Florida??? I love these hockey-obsessed posts, partly cause i know every time Doug D reads one he has to reach for another high octane sugar drink.

im not from here just spent the last 4 years down here. up untill this upcoming season we even had an ECHL team here though sadly they just went under. i grew up on hockey with my folks being from delaware (not that its a hot bed for hockey but philly sports! and my moms folks being from canada!

I still have not touched any of the NSPI, ESPI, or North American trophies due to the curse and the fact that I have not won any of them. Zach tried to fool me into touching the NSPI cup a few times, though.

Looks like I'm going to need some luck if I'm ever going to touch any of them, too... Been coming up empty way too much.

I hope you don't turn into the Ray Bourque of bike polo Adam. That's way too long to wait for a trophy

In Dayton we only play once a week (polo 3times/week in e van? - but those guys damn good), and its more of a party than polo practise. Hence, Dayton will probably never hold a trophy. But we do have an "amazing ability to turn beer into urine."
Again, excellent job to everyone. We had a great weekend.

What are you doing for DC Adam??

I will be a no-show at the DC tournament, that same Saturday is the second annual Metal Race in Brooklyn/Manhattan, organised by my respected friend and sometime polo player Thom here in NYC... Definitely a bummer, but here and there I do like to return to my roots and do some alleycat racing and - believe it or not - messenger work... so I'll be sticking around in NYC that weekend.

Very much interested in playing alongside you, though! Sometime, somewhere... I want it to happen!

Fuck yeah...we will figure it out.
