Court size:

Los Angeles bike polo is proud to host The 2012 West Side Invite in conjunction with SoCalCross at The L.A. County Bicycle Fest! The cyclocross race will begin after dark on Saturday, which means we can hang out and mingle with our fellow bike nerds even longer. We're looking at a 36 or 48 team 3v3 tourney, depending on registration numbers.

-Swimming pool (KOA)
-UCI's Spooky Cross Race
-Oktoberfest next to Cyclocross track
-KOA campgrounds on site, with swimming pool and hot tub
-Registration Party at dba256 in Downtown Pomona
-Bike swap meet and vendor expo
-BMX/fixed/skate freestyle area
-Mini velodrome next door
-Food truck festival
-Bike-In concert and movie
-Costume cross race/contest

-Registration is open on Athlete Path
-Registration will be $45/team, due by October 15.
-Late registration will be $60/team, from October 16 until the opening party.

For those flying in, this tournament will be held closest to the Ontario (ONT) airport. Burbank (BUR) and LAX are also viable options, but take the distance into consideration. We live in a very big city.

The closest KOA campground.
Bonelli Park has the East Shore RV Park, which also has camping for $10/day.
A map of alternate hotels near the tourney location.

More details to follow.

Pomona?! Lol I am sad to say I will not be there, because I will have moved by then! whomp whomp

Are You Afraid of the Polo?

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Definitely, I mean unless Joker and David aren't there :-P

We'd like to start negotiating for housing ASAP. There's a KOA campsite with RV, cabin, and tent spaces available, mostly in the neighborhood of $10/night per person. There's also a Sheraton down the street. What would people be most interested in? We'd probably have to reserve the tent spaces fairly soon before the other events' participants start booking.

Pool?!?!?!? Hell yeah!!!

Oh, hell yeah. There may even be Gravy remnants dribbling down your pants...

Lefty Bullshit!

Hella yes LA . Our dream of visiting The City of Angels for the sport we love has become a reality once more.See ya in the line up.

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

Moving back to Phoenix soon.
Ready or not Southwest here I come!!!

You make the rules, I'll play the game.

This tournament is in California, not the Southwest.

Your California is in the Southwest Region of bikepolo dummy.

You make the rules, I'll play the game.

Ha. Hahaha

You probably think Machine speaks for SF too. Tee hee.

no polojoel, the bitter ,cynical and whiney speak for SF , i just try to translate it into something positive.

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

Translate? Is that what you call it?

Welcome back to the sunny Southwest! It'll be great to see you at another tournament.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

You call it an invite? however there is open registration? are you open to a Denver team?

Open registration, the name is historical.

The most historical! Longest annual tournament?

The guardians are all in geneva curently but we will make sure the belts get down for this.

The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

and the belts?

Heigh! I wanna play in this tourney. But I am TEAMLESS!
Anybody out there need a Lefty on their team?

Lefty Bullshit!

ummm.. hello? I am not gonna miss w*rk and pay 4 travels if nobody is responding. I wanna play.
Need a team. anybody out there? or more Crickets?

Lefty Bullshit!

See Bob's post downthread! I want to see everyone here!

A few little notes:

-There is another large campground outside the KOA down the street in Binelli Park, yay!
-There will be a bike swap meet adjacent to the courts all weekend.
-The spooky cross race will be Saturday night if anyone is interested in participating in both the polo and cross events.

Is anyone looking at coming in an RV? There is RV space available at the fairgrounds and the KOA and we'd like to negotiate rates if anyone is interested in this option.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Registration opens Friday. Payment instructions will be sent to registered teams.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

i know this is a tough question but what time do think things will wrap up on sunday. i really want to go but i don't think that i can take any more time off of work.

arlyn , i'd say just come, if you cant stay leave early and get a sub , if you miss your plane i'll teleport to portland and cover your shift.
too many peeps are missing too much polo because of non polo related stuff.

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

No lights, so we should be done by 6:30. Be sure to include travel time in your plans- the fairgrounds are 50+ miles from LAX, but less than 10 miles from ONT, and about 35 miles from BUR. Lots of flights leave from 9-11 pm though, so I hope you make it out!

We are planning to wrap up roughly around 6 on Sunday.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

edit just wondering whats going on with the availability of rv camping, how many in one rv

But seriously, the KOA site says up to 12 people per motorhome.

Soooo tickets to LA from Austin are less than 300$, Iffin anyones interested, Im considering going if I can get a team before the end of August. Any takers?

Get rad

"eeyy bob" I'll fly down for this one and I'll see if I can find a third.

LA Local, might need a team for this one. Been playing for a little under a year. Haven't gone to many tournaments, you can ask people from my club about me if you are unsure.

- Sincerely
Olsen Aviles

You should play with Oswald and Nelson.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Olsen is GREAT. A good guy to have on any team.

It should be fun...RIGHT?

Hi LA , i didn't get an invite . I see there are only 4 teams registered . Is that coz it is invite only and the invitees have not yet replied ?

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

Yeah, It's invite only and you're the only person not invited :)

But seriously, it's open registration up to 48 teams. Come play polo!

Getting Excited for this one. Anybody out there that has been playing at least for two years want to put together a team?

You make the rules, I'll play the game.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

It's not recommended to attempt flying with guns.

After a 10 day waiting period... :(

Flying into Ontario pete?

Registration is (finally) open! Go here:
If you're interested in CX racing, the last page of the WSI sign up should give a link to the cross sign up with a $5 discount.
Because this all happened so late, I'm going to push back the late registration fee until October 15. Sign up before then at $45/team!

Hey guys,
I know lots of you are planning to come out, and we want to throw a fantastic event for you, but we need to buy our boards this week! Please pay for your team over at AthletePath before the 15th so we can make that happen.

I can't wait to see you all (again!)

Hey all!

Got some updates for ya.

Reg Party Friday night: There's kinda sorta two! First, there is a happy hour mixer event at the fairplex from 5-8. There's gonna be a food truck there...Green something I forget, and I think the Longboard bar will be open, and the courts will also be right there if you wanna get in on a little pick up. But we gotta get out of there at 8.

The OFFICIAL WSI 2012 REG PARTY will be at DBA 256, a bar in downtown Pomona (256 S. Main St.). This is a beer and wine bar, and we are getting HALF OFF all drinks 'cept Russian River beers, and $5 cheese & pepperoni pizzas til 10 (drink prices all night, pizza dealz til 10)! You will pick up your reg packs at DBA 256 in the front of the bar. There will be bands playing at the bar at 10, starting with a local indie band called The Motel Life. And then some others. My classmate Jodie will be tending bar, so tip her well!

A NOTE ON HOUSING: Pomona is not LA proper, and none of us live too close, so don't count on finding a couch to crash on.
No Manor is camping at Bonelli park, and I have arranged a group rate so please email me at losangelesbikepolo@gmail.com if you want to get in on the camping rate. This place is a lot more outdoorsy than the KOA, but not quite across the street (Bonelli = totally bikeable and there's a lake).

We also have a group rate worked out with the Comfort Inn on Garey Ave., which is walking distance from DBA 256. The rate is 10% off (same as AAA); and the rooms are between $60-70 per night at the discounted rate. When you call, tell them you are with "L.A. Bike Fest" to get the discount.

Also, parking is going to be $10/day at the Fairplex over the weekend, so ya'll should probably just ride in from whereever you stay. We're going to have a few organizer parking passes...so talk to me if you need to load in anything crazy or wanna give me & Sarah a ride in from the campground. :)

Other stuff? Questions? If you're down to volunteer or ref please email losangelesbikepolo@gmail.com. Spanks! See all you lovely polo folks soon!

oh yeah p.s. there will be a few yoga for cyclists sessions on Sunday!

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Anybody need a 3rd or any single players want to put together team "Chill to the Max"

You make the rules, I'll play the game.

Ya'll already know it never rains here, it's always sunny, and the weather is mild as fuck. But in case you weren't gonna bring yer shorts cuz you think it's winter or something, check out this tourney weekend weather forecast: Highs in mid-80's, low's in the high 50's.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Reminder to all. Bring your lights and bike locks. Pomona cops are everywhere, and the streets can be a bit sketchy.

give blood. play polo.

This is in my backyard. Who needs a third?

Hey lookin for a third joey you down?

Deaddog- sacbikepolo

Check your inbox player.

the fuck. is that your hair now in that photo?

Its a hat, but I do have hair now.

FYI my team will have Portland mallet heads and team shirts for sale!

We have might a few loose cannons from Vegas that need a team.
Any takers?

FYI I will be selling some DZRs for 20%

do they come in wide sizes?

they do not, what size shoe do you wear?

would like to register evan and koyo and i just so people know

We started building the courts yesterday. This is going to be a great venue.

A'ight, SF is rollin'... at least 3 vehicles driving and a few flying... standby for destruction ;)

Lefty Bullshit!

i'm sure people would like to know when we are required to be there in the morning. i am guessing 9am

Soo all you've got is a guess?

Yeah there's a schedule on the race site.9am peoples

All right, where the hell is the live feed, tweets, Podium, Constant text messages?

The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

Never mind, Found it.

The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

and then you didn't link it.

vince, something's wrong with podium. it seems to be updating games to an entirely different website...

You heckle but I know you saw it on facebook.

The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

WSI in effect!

Damn that court looks small. What are the dimensions?

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Fun' x Awesome'

In the neighborhood of 100'x50'. Closer to tennis courts than hockey rinks. One court got an 8' upgrade in the middle of the day Saturday.

Wonderfully cloudy and pefect temp in Pomona. Things are sooper smooth. Andre's team just beat Julian's. Most the SF teams are in the lower side of the brackets. Top side is Valleros looking pretty against the Cascadia teams.

Playing the Girllaz next and looking fwd to it.

Fire tornados take it

no complaints from pete? it must have been a good tournament!

biggest complaint: I got really, really tired of seeing 11 year old roadies on bikes that cost more than my n+1 bikes combined. Some people buy fancy shit instead of training and that upsets me every time I see it because it's a shitty strategy based upon shitty reasoning. But hey, this is coming from the guy who got a MKE Bruiser after 1 year of poorly playing polo.

Dear Pete:
Please let me know how much your n+1 bikes combined cost. I'm planning on buying a new whip and wouldn't want to disturb your <cough>brokeAss</cough> delicate sensibilities. thanks!

1st the fire tornadoes
2nd cheeBa hawks
3rd valleros
outta 25 teams....
damm good polo.. thank you la for all the great work and hospitality...........

Thanks Polo for another awesome weekend. Good job teammates.
Did anyone find a black insulated water bottle. I would do many weird things to get it back.

ended up with me. i shall bring it to ball whackers

You shoulda waited out hearing about all the weird things he was gonna do.

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Westside , Thanx for the invite. That woz pure dead brilliant ..............

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

OH MY GLOB. What a killer weekend. The camping was a blast. The polo was spectacular. Ya'll made my year. Thanks a million bajillion. Come back soon. Don't ever stop poloing.

And for those who are wondering, LA's next tourney will be a return of the purportedly annual Winter Polo Picnic. Got our hearts set on DTLA for 2013. Central to all the taco stands, tent cities and strip clubs.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

so, these clowns just posted unflattering and disrespectful photos with seattle bike polo tagged in them.

you take the longest running tournament and one of the most righteous prizes in bike polo and you literally wipe your ass with it. you have not earned the privilege to wear those belts and based on your results in this tournament, you never will.

carve. smash. eat shit.

To Drizz and to the rest of Cascadia polo community,
I am very sorry that I have offended you and your long standing tradition.First I assure you none of us were nude we all had shorts on. I would not have ever done anything that rude. I have removed these pictures from all places I was able to.My stomach as been in knots for hours now,and I can't even explain how bad I feel, for offend you all and disgracing your trophy,my club, and myself as well.I never thought it would be seen as such a disrespectful move and really thought we were making fun of ourself and not WSI or the traditions of Northwest polo.In a very naive way we thought it would just be something everyone could laugh about. In the short 4 years I have been playing I have seen pranksters, bad jokes, all kinds of tasteless actions from time to time in the bike polo scene.I never thought my actions would be viewed as malicious, and my intentions were far from it. I have a great deal of respect for WSI and it's history. I respect, have met and even housed some of the current and past belt holders. Please view this as an action of me personally (as sadly this was my drunken idea) and not let it reflect you view on the rest of the Los Angeles club. To any and all I have offend please contact me and we can discuss my careless actions and what I can to do show you all I meant no harm and I am truly sorry.

brought to you by the good people at morningstar

You should totally put those pictures back up for everyone to see.

The only reason anyone does anything.
For the lulz.

Hey I want to personally apologize to all of Bike Polo and especially to all of the extremely talented people that have had the honor and skill and heart that it takes to be able to hold the west side invite belts. This was a stupid immature and disrespectful act that I extremely regret being a part of. I did request that NONE of these photos ever get posted but just as all bad ideas start bad..they also end bad. I understand the person who posted the photos has already deleted any trace of them, other than the ones here on the comment thread. I think so that no one else gets offended, all trace of these photos should be erased (the ones in the above comment). I want nothing more than to correct this wrong that has been done. I am going to personally apologize to the current holder of this belt and only hope that doing so will make this somewhat better.

im not even sure why the clowns got to touch any trophy

the guy in the middle, Steve Campos, made all the other metal trophies. Hard to make a trophy without touching it, methinks.

Due to the level of responsibility I had in this tournament I just want to speak up and say that I wasn't around for what happened and am disappointed that it did. My direct response was "that's the same as defiling a sacred relic." Some people make poor (terrible, thoughtless, selfish) decisions. I'm sorry that this happened.

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

thank yous (in no particular order)

Donald J. Pepper - for making 1.2 million grilled cheese sammies. For lunch today I am making a grill cheese with onions and jam. You have open my eyes and now I can truly see.

Steve Campos - for letting my team into your home and the (currently missing probably thanks to the TSA) trophy. And for finding an iron!

Sarah - for keeping the games going and picking up 1.2 million potato tacos Sunday night. My entire day yesterday was fueled by the very same potato tacos.

Krista - for organizing, regulating, and dumping who knows how much money into the tournament, unsure if it's coming back or not.

Bobby - for the 3:30am ride to the airport (bad planning Pete.... I know, right?) and keeping me extra safe all weekend. Safety 1st, 2nd AND 3rd.

Emmett - for being on my side concerning shuffles. One day our people will break free from this patriarchal oppression and finally be able to exercise our right to score stupid and boring goals because it's easy and unskillful.

Joey - for not being on my side concerning etiquette. You want to win above all else and you do it well. I respect your position because it's where I used to be when I was a soccer player, but I hope that you grow out of it before our next game because my shin has a nice divot from your back axle swinging into me!

Dillman - for never smiling on camera until the tournament is over. And for letting me irreparably stretch out a pair of DZRs by shoving my fat foot into one. It was a painful experience that I won't soon forget. And for having really, really, really long arms. Where can I get some of those?

Sterling - for the vital safety meeting immediately before my 3rd game against LA's A-squad. And for micronapping on the couch at No Manor on Sunday night. Adorable.

Julian - for good coaching in the last two games of the tournament. I appreciate that you consider my play style 'smart' because that's about the only thing I got going for me. "Position not contact".

Capitol Bike Polo - for trading a mallet head for gratuitous amounts of safety manuals. I sure needed every last one of those. For getting 3 quick goals on my team on Saturday... thanks for the wake-up call! And for heckling me on Sunday!

TimTim and Elijah - for realizing that I really didn't feel like being in goal much and I was on a ball-finding mission on defense. And for not getting upset when I kept the ball for too long. If I have it, my teammates can't score, but neither can my opponents! For being positive and for not being stupid idiots, because that's what makes me stop being positive. For succumbing to peer pressure on ever occasion. For monitoring my level of safety. For everything this weekend. Hope y'all found what you were looking for on Sunday!

Joker, Too Short, and Pistolero for a great best of 3 series over the weekend. For not taking my so-called trickshot show-boating too seriously in the last game (hey now, the double windmill fake is a legitimate strategy!). For not roughing me up too much. For teaching me to play against lefty goalies.

Olsen - for chauffeuring us about on Saturday. It blows my mind how much driving must be done in LA and you did it well, until Sunday night. Hope you made it home okay!

Frazer - for swinging big. And missing hard.

Lawnmower - for skidding big. And stopping hard.

AZ Linebackers - for being big (hayooooooo). And repping hard.

Dustin - for losing big. And working hard on the microphone.

Much love poloverse. All smiles from me all weekend. Great job LA.

So much freakin fun. Thanks a whole bunch! I gave a shout out on my CX blog...

I have been out of the game for over a year now. This tourny is what I needed! I will see you for pick up next week LA.

Thanks to L.A. for all the work in making this weekend happen. Way more positives than negatives. No one can take away the hard work and care that you all put in to host this thing. Great Work!

any word on who is hosting the westside invite this year?
