C MURDER, winner of the first, organizer and (c/o Dr Doom) the maker of the belts for the first Westside Invite, has humbly requested that the Westside Invite be held in San Francisco in 2013.
A conversation has been had with our beloved Dustin Riggs from The Guardians in Seattle and he respects C Murders decision to request this event and shall send the 3rd belt to us to be fought for here.
The date of the tournie is perfect in the fact that you can all come here then fly to Fort Lauderdale to The Worlds with us the following day, or 2 days later if you are loving our hospitality .
It shall consist of what follows, which will be added to in the next 2 weeks with more detail.

Friday 11th. Sick as Fuck Registration Party..........at a Kick ASS Venue
Saturday 12th.Coffee Cat culminating in Skids and Sprints at Toxic Golf with Cargo race(google that shit). Followed by
Sicker as Fuck party with 4 bands at ,this will be confirmed as soon as we can but We The People would love to bring the whole SF bike community together in a tangled bike pile at Cyclecides very own SWEARHOUSE.................Oh yes we did.
Sunday 13th . Lucky for Everyone , The main race.
Monday 14th BBQ and SINGLE ELIMINATION polo tournie at Polo Joels house (dont tell him until the day coz that many peeps might be scary if over thought about over the next 3 months)

Why is Machine calling this I hear you mumble , grumble and WTF dat about.
Well....
C MURDER is so deep rooted in both the messenger and bike polo communities and sure as hell aint no POLOTICIAN or DIPOLOMAT (my team name for the tournie)
For that reason I am calling this tournie for The Messengers and Polo Peeps of SF coz if he'd done it the internet would have exploded and then we'd all be fucked.
C MURDER thanks Seattle for their maturity, love of bikes and adaptability in this matter. LOVE YOU GUYS.
C MURDER YA HERE IN SF > BRING YOUR HEARTS AND YOUR A GAME COZ ONE LOSS AND YER OUT.
PLEASE SIGN UP AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE SIGN UP SO WE KNOW HOW MANY COURTS WE HAVE TO BUILD

Two West Side Invites? MY MIND HAS BEEN BLOWN

We don't even have courts

shhh don't tell them that!

We'll send the belt. To be clear since my name was mentioned, I think it's a step backwards to include these in a one day single elimination tournament on a Monday. They've been handed down to the best teams on the West Coast for 5 + years, and now in an attempt to "get back to their roots" they'll be a prize at a sideshow BBQ on a Monday. This is also a week after the actual polo Westside Invite here in Seattle. Just putting that out there for folks trying to plan trips. Two days of polo with some of the finest teams the West has to offer, two weeks before the World Chamionships.

Yeah, this is fine and all if you're into the throw-back messenger/polo events, but last time I checked, the polo tourney divested itself from the messenger race in 2011. Have fun in SF, but Seattle will be reppin' some new, polo-specific trophies and trying to crown the best polo in the West.

This is just weird...I guess my only claim is, I called it first!

WRONG END OF THE STICK
Casey says its no big deal that you have it as a full on West Side Polo invite but that the belts need to be fought for at The West Side invite where they were purposed for

Love ya
PS He says we should continue having the 3 day polo tournament and call it the West Side Polo invite but as of this year onwards the belts will stay with the original West Side Invite

"So this is how it ends"MACHINE

Only one way to settle this.... shotgun races.

Ok so why doesnt each city on the West coast have a wee fund raiser and chip in for new belts to be presented in Seattle this year. BOOM Done. I am willing to contribute even though i cant make it . Does anyone have Dr Dooms details?

Sounds like 206 has got it covered.

Looking forward to the Official C Murder-Sanctioned Seattle West Side 'Polo' Invite (TM) (R).

I call bull shit!! why was this not brought up last year in Los Angeles when they host the Westside invite Polo tournament. This tournament has evolved the last couple years into what all Polo players want a 2 day tournament. Why are we changing now, just because some people want to get sentimental and talk about glory days. Wake up people its 2013 and if you want to stay in the game just keep playing the game.
My vote is for the belts to be awarded to the best team at the West Side invite Seattle Washington 2013.

You make the rules, I'll play the game.

Marco : 1, Casey : -50.

in all honesty, i am saying fuck this SF bullshit my belt is going up to seattle for a real polo tournament, not some stupid monday afternoon in a parking lot bush league jump off.

Unless SF is willing and able to put together a legit 2 day tournament with real boards on a real court. If thats the case than the fuck you goes right back up to you seattle.

haha! Well we've been planning this since last year so we've got it on lock, don't see where we went wrong here in anyway.

Wow. Mostly I blame Machine.

Lick your wounds girls and listen to this for kicks
How many Newbies have joined your club this year or in the last 2 years since the Westside Invite split. Count them on one hand or even one finger.
Having 150-200 Messengers/ Newbies from across the United States of America play a one day polo tournament for fun after 3 days of racing will (and I guarantee you this ( a bottle of Bulleit on it with any takers)) have the biggest influx of hard court polo players that we have ever seen now that we have a genuine sport established.
Stop thinking of youselves and think of our sport as a whole Have polo belts made for now to infinity that belong to the poloverse. And battle hard for them with the best players on the West Coast and possibly the world.
We are becoming a closer community but our numbers are dwindling across the board.Check the stats with the NAH.We only had 24 teams at our qualifier. That sux.
Love y'all

Let me give you my point of view as a Bike Messenger. There's not much money in this field anymore So its kinda hard to buy a polo specific bike with this income. I think most cities across the country of tried bringing us back together but I think we're beating a dead horse. I'm not giving up on bringing us together but I want to move forward with the Westside invite and the belts. This tournament will keep POLO strong from San Diego all the way to Vancouver even Alaska if we want. Let's move forward POLO.

You make the rules, I'll play the game.

Remember West Coast POLO people, this is not one person POLO tournament, this is all of ares. You make a choice.

Just some observations:

Most of this seems to be about the belts. It's clear to me that they're coveted and people are doing their best to honor or establish some unwritten rules about them.

The west side invite sure looks like it's real and going to happen and is being organized by friends of pushbike and murderous affiliates. There happens to be a day of polo involved, and what ballczar points out explains the unfortunate overlap of event names. Machine put some information out. Lots of fun reading ensues as expected.

Credo quia absurdum

Machine for president.

I builder of the belts endorsed the separation of the two events back in 2010.

Does C Murder still play polo? Last tourney in SF he didn't show for day two. Maybe that's why he wants a one day tournament.

Let's play polo for the belts. One team of messengers and one team of polo players. Whoever wins, belts go to their event.

I am not going to be able to defend my belt, but I would have hoped that it would it be fought for at the tournament with the stiffest polo competition.

It is the players who give these belts heritage, not the event.

More like, The Fake Side Invite. Belts go to Seattle and SF should award chrome messenger bags to the winners.

PoloEug

The belts were not at the first west side, and c murder did not win the first west side tournament. Wallets were the prize and team haus won.

There is the belts, which are awesome and coveted and have been talked about to some extent.

But the other aspect is a question of promotion of bike polo to larger scenes. Machine brings up a good point that the growth of the sport has slowed down considerably. As the sport becomes more elite it becomes less accessible and fewer new players will feel comfortable trying it.

The sport benefits from a mix between events that promise the strongest competition and events that are more creative. One of the most obnoxious things about various bike cliques is when they go from being open and encouraging to "stand in the corner and talk shit".

Also, if we travel so much and only spend time at the court we are missing lots of the best parts of traveling in seeing the other places. I have got to know a city much better because of allycat races which frequently are a poor man's version of a guided tour.

Im not advocating for any particular corse of action. I just see a lot of great former players like CMurder pulling away from the scene. Please don't be so quick to give up on our roots!

Yeah hold on Mcfly!
We aren't falling for it, don't go coming back in time to SF just to make out with your mom or to create rock n roll.
