Hey Jon, what are you thinking as far as a start time? How about a finish time? Even if you want to go all night, better if there's a wrap-up prize give-away time. Some folks are going to be driving home.

Joel, the start time will be 10am on the 15th (that's contrary to the flyer, but I'll be editing that). Finish time will be 7:30pm.

Pistolero,

You and any other players who want to play are welcome. Please let me know if you need a place to sleep that night.

It looks like we might be rolling mad deep. Would there be room at least 6, if not 10 or 12 of us from L.A.? I'll try and get something closer to a solid number at tonight's game.

Danya,

I will help you as much as possible in finding a place for you all to stay. To make it easier for me and you please bring your own bedding and maybe a tent if you don't like sleeping out in the open. The weather out here is nice, so the best option might be to camp out at various people's houses. I look forward to getting a more confident head count from you, but for now will be planning on you brining 12.

It looks like L.A. isn't going to be bringing more than five that need housing, since I'm the only car going up without a place to stay.

Sir N.O.D.

I hope you will find this event most funnest indeed. I'm not exactly sure what exactly your exacting with the question "Team up there?", maybe you are referring to whether or not we will be playing as set teams? If that is the question then the answer might be yes or no. the format of play will be "throw-in" style so teams will be 'randomly' selected using the 'mallet toss method'. Points will be awarded on a 'points won' basis and recorded on individual scorecards. Bring a friend or come alone, there will be games to be played.

Love,
Farmer Jon

hey jon, 4 or more of us from sac are comin up friday night i believe... anyplace we can rest our heads to get our ugly sleep for the big day????

3-2-1-FUCK-IT

also just noticed that this is just a pick up day and not a tournament... am i correct with that ??

It's a "pickup tournament". First prize for the person who play best with others. Ting-a-ling!

Pistol of Sacramenticus,

I shall put you on a list with +4(for now) on the "head bed needed" list. What's the worst that could happen? really.

Does the flyer say "Birtday" on purpose? Either way, birthday or birtday, looking forward to helping you celebrate!

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Nicole,

I am not always as good of a speller as I shll be in this letter to you. I usually just spell stuff the way I say it, so birtday made sence. I'm excited to have you as a guest in our beautiful city, but I dont need help being celibate. I do need help with a cake. Please bring one.

Thanks,

Farmer Jon

screw cake.

One of the whackers here was recently telling me about a 16y/o smoking hot South Van Ness St. "Rental" with suspicious moral proclivities and a wide variety of communicable souvenirs (bring your own tool dip). If we find her in time we'll bring her along. You'll have to work out who goes first. Nothing says "Happy Birthday" like a nice fresh dose of ghonnarea!

Nothing says "Happy Birtday" like a fresh dose of guacamole. I'm glad you'll be brining those freshly squished avocados with lime juice and salt. This 16 year old you speak of will have many contemporaries to mingle with at this party...do bring her along when you find her.

I got your cake right here....actually, we would love to bake! It's second on the list of obsessions after polo (for some of us). I'll whip up a little something special. ; ) Now who's going to give me a surf lesson? And as for housing, is there a spot where we can pitch a tent? hehehe...i said "pitch a tent."

Nicole,

Thanks so much for agreeing to bring a cake. I suspected from your signature that you were the one to ask. Tory is our "pro surfer", if he cant get you up on a wave there's only dumb luck, self determination, and divine intervention to fall back on. Yes, there is a place where you can pitch a tent. Everyone should have a place to rest.
See you soon.

I'm coming out and I'm bringing all my pent up unchecked
big city aggression with me. Gonna ride that rollercoaster till
I puke! Maybe if we have time and enough folks we could do a
quick random "different city players" team tourney?
Or not. Whatever.
Also, no vampires allowed!

"I'm making it look mean!"

I'll see your pent up unchecked big city aggression and raise it with my lust for blood. care to indulge me? see you in SC!

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Casey,
Come here and let me give you a hug. You know, one of those firm, warm, massaging hugs that last a little bit beyond your comfort level, but then you resign to enjoy what little honest, heartfelt, deeply emotional and spiritual physical contact you get this day and age...especially in the big city. Boners are okay, it's all part of the process.

waaahoo. see y'all on the 15th

Wow!! Am I glad I will be in Felton for this. And wish more from PBP was able to come. Do you need anything Sir Farmer?

I need a big ole grill and or smoker, like one of those santa maria types with a lid, but one that can be hauled by bike and can smoke a whole hog and grants wishes and does dishes...that's what I need. Maybe someone who want to cook a bunch of food that we will have...like a good cook, not one of those people who's farts smell like hell.

Leavin manana. Saturday Polo it is. Pumped!!

Not Yet....Not Yet.

The Bay Area crew will be rather humble in size tomorrow. Many people unable to make it for various reasons: work, money, kids, etc.... Maybe 6 of us? It's the quality and not the quantity that counts.

I spoke to Jon last night...I'll pass this along. Let's keep this very low key. We're having an informal get-together to play polo. This is not an event.

Cec & I are heading down tonight, I believe she nabbed a room in the hotel across the street.

Some recommendations from yours truly.

Bring a drinking vessel. Avoid risk of tickets. Beer in vessel, save yourself a couple hundred $$$.

Bring water.

Bring an extra tire or two. The court is nice but a little rough. Last time there were 2-3 blowouts over the course of the day.

thanks for the infos!

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

Adding two more food tubes to my reservation- Miah and Longarm shall attend.

Also, do I need to pre-order if I want the duck? Word has it that it is a so succulent!

Silly of course you are aware it is not duck season. I believe our hosts will be taking in the morning's catch for our lunch repast. Hopefully grilled, with a nice assortment of local organic fruits and vegetables.

And hopefully we don't get arrested for attempting to prepare food in public without the proper licenses and fees.

Best view from hotel room door ever.

Congrats: Pistolero, Shetty (Andrew SC), Sara (LA).

Happy Birthday Jon and Tory

and Thank You Santa Cruz!

Credo quia absurdum

Thanks guys for an awesome tournament, and thanks shitty for letting us crash! Happy birthday Jon and Tori!

Rubber side down

Way to go David and Lil Sarah!

^ And shitty!!! Good job guys!

Rubber side down

Thanks for coming to play everyone! You all helped make this birtday polo extravaganza even better than I could have expected. Thanks to Joel and Ben from SF for being sympathetic and proactive listeners, you two really helped when I was feeling stressed...mainly by bringing a bunch of free beer! THANKS PYRAMID BREWERIES....I love your apricot beer, it makes crashing hurt less. A big thanks to the santa cruz bike polo crew for helping get the court together at the last possible minute...if it werent for you guys I'd just be playing with myself, by that I mean you guys help me get laid. except you shitty, you just make me play with myself. Joey from SAC and Doug from SF, thanks for being awesome teammates. Krista from LA, thanks for the birtday cake...it was moist and delicious. N.O.D from PHX, thanks for coming out and keeping the spirit of Polo alive by being a positive role model for all of us 'kids' playing polo, the mallet you gave me will be the prototype I shall base my subsequent models off of. I guess I should just be sending each of you letters, but now I've become all self conscious that I'm talking too much. I really enjoyed being with all of you who came. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I'd love to see anymore photos that were taken at the event. Please send them to me @ thebackyardfarmer@yahoo.com

FARMER JON

Santa Cruz I love playing with you all and I loved playing on the court you reclaimed from desolation just days before*. The best things in life were had this weekend: fantastic weather, 9 great random mix teams from all over (Phoenix, LA, Sac, Bay Area), an event planned minutes before it happens, no whining, delicious food, tasty home brew cider. And Jon tells me he did it on $10. Way to fucking go!

* Back story is (roughly) that SC gov. absolutely did not want an event at the normal polo spot, managed by the local Parks dept. The gate was locked in the morning. SC adapted.

LOST: my black vinyl folder holding a pad of graph paper with notes and brackets from tourneys past in the pocket. I would dearly love to get this back.

I put it in the last trailer that Andrew pulled down the hill at the end of the day. I assume it made it into his car.

THANKS SANTA CRUZ! You guys are true polo ninjas! Sorry, I only took 300 pictures (trust me, I'll be culling/editing out the junk shots. This is what happens with continuous shooting and an 8 gig memory card)

Such a great day of polo. I can't believe how much work you guys put in clearing off all that blackberry. Unreal. Great weather, beautiful location. +1 will whack again.

Congrats to the winners.

"We don't need no education"

So in Santa Cruz this weekend...

Apparently the city did not want them to have any sort of event at the open public roller hockey rink where they play. So the SC guys go to an abandoned tennis court in a remote park, 1/4 mile uphill walk from parking area. It was a country clubhouse many years ago, now weeded over and boarded up. They start pulling blackberry thorns up from the cracked concrete and clearing off one of the courts. A ranger tells them stop and no you may not do such work in a park. They smiled and acted nice, and all the peoples asked said it was good and so even the ranger finally said OK, go pluck your weeds and play your game. We had a great day out of it. It was sunny and beautiful. Farmer Jon's cider was fine.

Thank you for the magic Santa Cruz!

SC...You guys have created great memories. Thank you so much for making me and my partner feel welcome. We enjoyed every minute of it. Hope to see y'all soon.
BTW...I saw some mad skills too. Tory!
I'll post pics when I get back to Phx

Not Yet....Not Yet.

Head Ranger John Wallace just called me to tell me that we cant do that again without proper permission. Next time we shall have to get permission way ahead of time....like before we announce it on this site.

Jon, Mike, Tory and all of SC polo - thanks so very much!! The spot was great, the work you did to make it work was just incredible, really - does anyone have a photo showing the clear side and the side still covered in weeds. Truly a labor of love, and the trip was so very worth it. Thanks Mike for hosting L.A. and for coffee & eggs, we really felt the love. It was so great to play with everyone from all over CA and Jeff from AZ, so cool to have you there and play with you! Throw-in tourneys are a heck of a lot of fun!! The food and the cider, Jon, were absolutely delicious. Santa Cruz is beautiful and the weekend was absolute bliss. Even wandered into the forest for a bit and happened upon a bright yellow banana slug. Oh, and way to go on hooking up the beer SF! The spot we played at was just unbelievable, the setting unlike any other. Hope to see ya'll again soon!

Ride, bake, polo, repeat.

I don't know how you guys even noticed a tennis court was there before work began. Amazing
